The Fever's Gonna Catch You

Summary:

Sam's been texting a girl online - at least, she says she's a girl, Dean's not so sure. He doesn't tell Dean about it when he goes to meet her in real life, which means he gets to surprise Dean with an old friend when he brings her home.

Work Text:

“So get this.” Sam waited until Dean had put down the cell phone. He didn’t want to know what Dean was looking at; it didn’t matter. He needed Dean’s full attention here. “You know how I’ve been talking online to that girl Revan?”

“I keep telling you, I don’t believe she’s a girl. Revan was a dude. Not that it matters to you, but not a girl.” Sam rolled his eyes, glaring at his brother. Even if Dean weren’t wrong, it was completely beside the point. Besides, Dean needed to replay the game if he was that sure Revan was male – sure, the official version of him was, but in game you could choose which to be. “I’m just saying, if he’s lying to you that badly about that, what else is he lying about?”

“Well, she wasn’t lying. I just met her.” Sam took a seat on the arm of the chair. “And you’ll never guess who she is.”

“You sure she’s actually Revan? Not someone scamming you?” Dean sat forward, a little more interested now. “You might actually have a girlfriend?”

“Dude. Why are you so excited about this anyway?” Sam pouted, pretending to be upset. “You that eager to get rid of me? Miss being single that much?” There was no way Dean said yes, or even took Sam’s fear seriously – even if it was. Even if a part of Sam was always insecure that Dean was just with him because it was a way to keep Sam where he could take care of him.

“Oh come on, you know better than that.” Dean pulled Sam off the arm of the chair and into his lap. “I want you to be happy. You’ve always wanted normal, and Revan – even if I’d been right and he was a dude – is a lot more normal than being with me is.” Dean’s own insecurity in their relationship, just as real and just as baseless. Sam couldn’t imagine life without Dean. “So? You seem to think I might recognize her.”

Sam pulled out his phone and sent the text. He grinned at the look on Dean’s face when Madison walked in and struck a pose. “Hello, Dean. Check it out, the bitch is back!”

“But… you…” Dean looked to Sam. “Don’t you dare tell me you missed from that close range.”

“No, I was dead,” Madison said. “Why do you think I used Revan? Killed and reborn, a creature of good who walked the path of darkness and found their own balance, wandered without memories for a time until being restored… I have no idea how I’m back. I don’t remember anything between Sam pulling the trigger and Garth and Bessie teaching me how to control everything. Once I was better, had control, was sure I wouldn’t slip… Garth showed me how to get in contact with Sam.”

“Sammy, a word?” Dean asked, slightly on edge.

“If this is about her being a werewolf, come on, you already hated that we had to kill her the first time around and now that we know Garth – and that she’s been with Garth all this time – if you’re not willing to trust her, then we need to take this outside.” Dean didn’t look a bit reassured. Sam tried to think what else might be bothering him. “Is it because we don’t know how she’s back? We should look into it, probably, check for strings, but right now I’m thinking Cas or Benny.” That still didn’t reassure Dean. He shot a glance between Sam, still on his lap, and Madison, giving Sam the hint. “If this is about me already having a boyfriend, Madison already knows everything about it,” Sam drawled, not bothering to get up off Dean’s lap.

“And honestly, I think it’s kind of hot,” Madison added. “Wanna be our unicorn? I know you’re into girls, and the main reason you didn’t go for me is because you were so happy to see Sam getting back into things after Jess, so close enough to a hot bi babe, right? I don’t know if you’re actually bi, but…”

“Nope, it’s just Sammy, and bigger problem, there’s no way me and Sammy are keeping things casual. He’s my brother. If anything, you’d be our unicorn.”

Sam put a hand to his face, interrupting before Madison could retort that being with two guys didn’t make her bi. “I have it on good authority that Castiel is the resident unicorn here. Meg told me so. And if we’re going for the strict definition of unicorn, I’m their unicorn and you would be if you ever got your head out of your ass about sex with Cas, Dean. Both of you, stop arguing semantics, and Dean, give her a serious answer. Are we doing this as a triangle or a vee?”

“Triangle, if that’s an option,” Dean said, giving Madison a long lookover. “Saves me the trouble of going out and finding myself a girl when I want one and Meg’s pissed at me.”

“Where are Castiel and Meg, anyway?” Madison asked. “I was looking forward to meeting them.”

“They don’t actually live here,” Dean explained. “Close by, close enough that booty calls are no big deal, but not here. Cas has a cat, I’m allergic, and Meg’s enough of a bitch that I love not having to put up with her if I don’t want to.”

“I’ll take you over once you’ve gotten everything inside.” Sam looked up at Dean. “You’re not gonna object to her being our roommate, are you?”

“Oh my god, we are roommates?” Dean deadpanned. “Long as we’ve got somewhere secure for her during full moons, no problem.”
