Work Text:
James was rushing around the common room trying to get ready for quidditch practice but he just couldn’t find his jumper. Yes, it was basically summer, but you could never be too sure that it wouldn’t be absolutely freezing at 6 in the morning.
“This is just stupid now.” He muttered to himself as he checked the sofa in the common room. He remembered leaving it in there the night before but somehow it had disappeared.
Sirius entered the common room, evidently still half asleep. He leaned his head on James’ shoulder with his eyes closed and complained about being up way too early for ‘stupid old quidditch’. James laughed at him and ruffled his hair, telling him to go back to bed and that he’d wake him up later. Sirius huffed one last time into James’ shoulder and pushed himself off to shuffle back to his bed.
James continued with his search for the jumper but was unsuccessful in finding anything. As he was starting to give up hope he thought of a very likely option: Lily. It was likely that she had maybe taken it so it was safe in her dorm instead of just in the common room. He sat on the sofa and thought it would be better to wait for her to wake up so he could ask her.
He didn’t know how long he’d been sitting there waiting but he had closed his eyes and dozed off again slightly. He was awoken by movement next to him and opened his eyes to red hair just below his head. Lily had been sleeping in his arms without him realising and he couldn’t help but breathe her in as he wrapped his arms around her. She hummed into his neck and moved impossibly closer.
“Good morning.” She breathed out.
“Good morning, my love. Sleep alright?” Lily nodded against him. James smiled and moved his hand into her hair to massage her head.
“Mmmm… don’t you have quidditch this morning?” James hummed a ‘yes’ into her hair before moving to sit up.
“I do. Oh yeah, have you got my -“ James looked down to see what she was wearing, “you know you can’t just wear my clothes, right?”
Lily was wearing James’ quidditch jumper, the one he was looking for, over her pyjama bottoms, and she looked incredibly cosy. Her face turned red and she hid behind her hands as James laughed and pulled her in again.
“How can I not wear it when it’s so comfortable?”
“You make a good point, babe. Don’t worry, I’ll separate some jumpers just for you.” Lily smiled at that and cuddled into him.
James didn’t know how he ever deserved this kind of love.
