If there was one thing Henry would never get used to it was the nightmares. Luckily they didn’t come often only twice every other week,but when they did happen oh they were bad. That’s how he got here shaking his boyfriend awake tears streaming down his face with a very panicked and scared expression on his face. “Charles Charles please wake up,” Henry muttered like a chant, the terrible images of the nightmare still flashing through his brain.
“Ngh- hey hey Henry whats wrong, why are you crying love?” Charles asked as he wiped away the tears streaked across Henry’s face. Then it finally clicked, “Did you have another nightmare love?” he asked in a very soft and gentle voice. Henry nodded as he hugged Charles tightly, “I’m sorry I’m so sorry I let them- I shouldn’t have let y-,”
This wasn’t the first time Henry had woken up from a nightmare begging for Charles forgiveness. Once for siding with the Toppats, and another time for disobeying his orders and stealing from the Toppats instead of taking them down. “Hey why are you sorry, you don’t have anything to apologize for,” Charles said in a quiet voice.
“I let you die,you sacrificed yourself for me, the space station exploded and you were still inside and It-,” Henry was cut off by Charles pressing a soft kiss to his lips, and pulling him into a tight hug.
“It’s over, it's not real, I'm right here,I’m safe and you’re safe,” He said, hoping to calm Henry down at least a little bit. “But you weren’t then and it's my fault,” Henry said, pulling away from the hug and instead opting to push his face into Charles' chest. “I can say with confidence that it was not your fault, and I’m here and not dead aren’t I?” Charles said, placing a kiss on Henry’s forehead.
“You’re right, thanks Charles I really appreciate you doing this for me,” Henry said, laying next to and snuggling into Charles. “Of course Hen I love you and I want to do what I can to help you feel better,” Charles replied, giving him a small smile and running his fingers through Henry’s hair.
“I love you too Charles,” Henry replied.
“You ready to try and go back to sleep Hen?” Charles asked. Henry nodded and closed his eyes muttering a goodnight to Charles. As Charles looked down at his peacefully sleeping boyfriend, he just knew that he wanted to marry him as soon as possible. “I love you Henry more than you will ever know,” he said before closing his eyes and falling asleep to his boyfriend’s heartbeat. However unbeknownst to him Henry had also been wanting to marry him for a while actually and the ring box was sitting at the bottom of a sock drawer waiting for Henry to take it out and pop the question, and the right time of course. What Henry knew but Charles did not is that the right time would be coming very very soon and he was very nervous but at the same time excited.
