Work Text:

Martin came out onto the balcony of their beachfront hotel.

"Are you ready to go then, darling?" he asked, hooking a pair of huge blue and orange shades into his shirt pocket.

Baurus turned around from where he's been enjoying the warm summer sun, ready to greet his boyfriend with a kiss, only to stop and stare. "Martin, baby," he began, "do you remember when we said we could always tell each other the truth, and not hold it against the other person?"

Martin ran a hand through brown locks, still damp from the shower. "Of course, darling." He frowned, body tensing, twisting his shoulders as though for a blow. "Is something wrong?"

"No! No... Well..."

"Baurus?"

Baurus closed his eyes and drew a breath. "Baby, what in the Hell are you wearing?"

Martin let out a nervous laugh, glancing down at the garish pink shirt he was wearing, with its cyan fronds and canary-yellow pineapples. "It's a Hawaiian shirt?"

"No. No, baby... That ain't a shirt. That's an abomination." Baurus waved a hand at the offending article. "Martin, you can't go out to dinner like that."

Martin drew his head back, eyes growing wide. "What's wrong with it? We're on holiday, it's a summer-y shirt, and we're only going to that little bistro 'round the corner."

Baurus walked over, taking Martin's hands, his expression apologetic. "Baby it's hideous."

"Well, I happen to like it."

"Really?"

"Really really." Martin sniffed, his lips quirking into a half-grin. "Well I suppose not all of us can have exquisite fashion sense."

Barus drew back, eyes narrowing, his own lips curling into a smile, as he glanced down at his own outfit of dark linen shorts, canvas deck shoes and short-sleeved navy shirt. He looked back at Martin, an eyebrow raised and shrugged. He leant forward. "If you get teased, don't say I didn't warn you," he said and brushed his lips across Martin's cheek. Baurus let Martin's hands drop and walked back into the room.

"I'm not going to get teased," Martin scoffed. His eyes flicked in thought as he recalled who his dining companions would be. He bit his lip. "Maybe I should change..."
