Work Text:

Wei Wuxian is tired.
Tired of the small daily annoyances of washing dishes, sleeping enough, of missing the bus by a few seconds.

Tired of the large things that are out of his control like the seething rage Yu ayi has for him for simply existing and all the familial obligations that are put upon his back. The overwhelming pressure of making sure that his beloved students don’t get hurt by simply being associated with him.

Tired of the stubborn set of his mind and not being able to have the things he wants, because he feels he doesn’t deserve them. Not when everyone in and around his life says it to his face, or indirectly means it, that he doesn’t deserve anything good. Just for being the way he is.

Wei Wuxian is tired. And Lan Wangji is right in front of him. Above all the odds, why is he here in this random side street of a residential area nowhere near his fancy apartments and designer stores. Holding a can of hot vending machine coffee, hands and ears turned red from the bitter winter night air. A stark contrast to the pale blue coat he’s wearing. Though Wei Ying is tired, he doesn’t think he would ever tire of seeing Lan Wangji, from afar or a single step away, he will always be looking at him if possible.

Lan Wangji looks up and spots him. In the hazy glow of the street lights, his ponytail looking particularly messy at the moment, red ribbon fluttering slightly in the breeze. Nose a bright pink to rival the ribbons hue. He drops the coffee can and runs. He’s waited too long, for an answer, for acknowledgement, for anything to do with his Wei Ying. The meters between them feel like miles but the distance is closed in an instant, his arms are around Wei Wuxian’s shoulder and neck, hugging his back tight.

Wei Ying makes a surprised sound when the weight of Lan Wangji comes barreling towards him.
“Lan Zhan! What are you doing?”

Lan Zhan “Wei Ying, don’t go.”

Wei Wuxian’s thoughts come to a halt. They tend to do that sometimes with Lan Zhan. “I’m not going anywhere, let go so I can breathe a little easier haha…” Wei Wuxian jokes half heartedly while he tries to pry Lan Wangji’s arms from his neck which has slowly been tightening in grip. This only causes Lan Wangji to tighten his hold.

“Don’t go, please. Just… Stay like this for a moment. Please” Lan Wangji says, so quietly Wei Wuxian almost doesn’t hear it. The message itself was whispered, but the emotions behind them were a roaring wave crashing through his chest. He sounded so small, and desperate. As if letting go would cause Wei Wuxian to crumble away into dust and float off into the winter sky to join the stars.
“Ok Lan Zhan, what is it?” Wei Wuxian whispers back, turning his head slightly towards the man behind him.

Lan Wangji takes a couple of slow breaths before opening his mouth, words tumbling out in the same hushed manner.
“Wei Ying. You have taught me so much about… so many things I thought I already knew and you can continue to teach me. But… Please. Don’t teach me about breaking up.”

Wei Wuxian practically stops breathing, due to what Lan Wangji just said or the ever increasing tight hold he has around his throat. Wei Wuxian turns to face Lan Wangji and grabs his face, squishing his cheeks a little. They are also cold under his touch, a pink tinge dusting his cheek bones. Golden eyes widening at the shift in movement and silver ones staring back with determination.

“Lan Zhan. You have got to be losing it or actually have been stupid this entire time. I would never break up with you. I will never tire of seeing your face or hearing you talk about your bunnies. I am here and always will be.”

Lan Wangji’s eyes soften after hearing him say that and closes the distance between them. Cold lips warming through contact of hot breath. Wei Wuxian is his, he is here to stay.
They stay like that under the yellow street light for minutes that flow by slowly. The stars and planets as their witness.

Yes, Wei Wuxian is tired, but he will get through it one way or another. He’s not alone anymore, and he wants Lan Zhan to be there with him. Nothing could change that.

Notes:

This was just a random blurb I got inspired to write about after watching eps 13 of Run On (a kdrama). Although I don't love the main couple this scene was cute hehe. Also I wrote this at 1am so excuse any weird grammar things, they are simply not perceived at the moment.

Follow me on twt @lan_lines I just yell into the void usually :')
