Part Nine: Goshiki

Summary:

Sunlight fell in through open curtains, tumbling over Shoyo and Tsutomu. They cuddled together lazily on their bed. Tsutomu stirred, slowly blinking away sleep.

“Shoyo,” Tsutomu slurred. “Wake up, baby.”

Shoyo groaned and lifted his head to look at the clock. “It’s my day off,” he whined. “I don’t want to wake up this early. He buried his face back into Tsutomu’s chest.

Tsutomu pulled him further up, placing his lips to his ear. “I’ve got somewhere special I want to take you, remember?” He kissed behind his ear. “C’mon, it’s gonna be fun, honey.”

Shoyo nuzzled into his neck and embraced him tighter. “I can’t think of anything more perfect than staying in bed with you all day.”

Notes:

Goshiki is adorable and I love him with my whole heart, so this is, admittedly, a bit cheesy. I hope you can all forgive me and enjoy it lmao. As always, let me know what you think. Also, this is an AU where gay marriage is recognized in Japan, as it currently is not.

Work Text:

“I can’t think of anything more perfect than staying in bed with you all day.” He looked up at him, eyes half-lidded with sleep. “A whole day with Tsutomu Goshiki, the man with the most amazing line shot ever!”

Tsutomu blushed heavily and crushed him in his arms. “You make it so hard to say no.” He ruffled his hair. “As much as I’d love that, I’ve got big plans, so I’m getting up. I’ll go with or without you.” He pushed away Shoyo and got out of bed.

“Tomuuuuu,” Shoyo whined and sat up. “Come on, pleeeeease. I bet I can change your mind.” He moved to take his shirt off.

Tsutomu grabbed the hem of his shirt and yanked it back down. “Nope. I’m determined now.” He pressed their foreheads together. “You better get fired up with me, or you won’t get any crepes.”

Shoyo gasped, the embers of a flame flickering in his eyes. “You didn’t say there would be crepes involved! I hardly ever get to eat sweets! That’s it, up I go!” He hopped out of the bed and pulled Tsutomu into a kiss. “Better get ready or I’ll leave you behind.” He swatted him on the behind and bounced into the bathroom, the shower clearly heard from within.

Tsutomu smirked, taking his shirt off and following him in.

Now out of the house, they walked hand-in-hand, laughing as Shoyo recounted some hijinks that took place during a recent practice.

“You should’ve seen Omi-san’s face,” he chuckled. “He was so pissed! And I have never seen Atsumu so pale in my life. I just can’t believe he did that. What kind of pro serves the ball into the back of a teammate's head? I haven’t done that since I was a first year.”

Tsutomu held his side as he laughed. “I still remember the last time that I pulled a move like that.” He grimaced. “I accidentally smacked Shirabu-san in the back of the head in my second year. My entire life flashed in front of my eyes, it was so scary.”

“I did the same to Kageyama-kun,” Shoyo admitted. “I’m pretty sure he still holds a grudge against me for it. Who knows, maybe me hitting him is what helped him to stop being such a big jerk. He was the worst at the start of our first year. I’m glad that he and I have been able to become such good friends.”

Tsutomu smiled. “Are he and Nishinoya-san still on vacation in Italy?”

“Yep!” Shoyo’s smile dropped, leaving a pensive expression behind. “I wonder when Noya-san is gonna propose? They’ve been together for years, and they’re head over heels for each other, which was a total shock for the rest of the Karasuno group when they told us. It just seemed so unexpected, but they work really well together.”

Tsutomu glanced to the side for a second and laughed hesitantly. “I know right? Well, whether they do or not, it’s good that they’ve got each other.”

“Yeah,” Shoyo giggled. “Especially because I get to make fun of Kageyama-kun every time he gets all mushy about him. It’s hilarious.”

Tsutomu laughed, catching a glimpse of their destination. “Oh! We’re here,” Tsutomu said quickly, pulling Shoyo to move quicker. They approached a cute little cart with all kinds of crepes listed on the menu. Each listing had a cute little picture of the product next to it with hand-drawn flowers scattered over the entire thing.

Shoyo’s eyes widened. “It’s so cute! I’m getting strawberry!” He grinned at Tsutomu.

Tsutomu melted where he stood. “I’ll get strawberry too.” Tsutomu ordered for them both and they sat down on a nearby bench to eat.

Shoyo took a bite. “Oh, man. This is so good,” he said with his mouth full. “I love crepes.” He leaned, placing his head on Tsutomu’s shoulder. “And I love you, Tomu.”

Tsutomu froze up, sitting straight. “I love you too, Shoyo.” He felt over his pocket, hesitating. He shook it off and looked back at Shoyo.

“Thank you for the crepes, Tomu. This is amazing.” He smiled up at him, a bit of whipped cream on his cheek.

Tsutomu grabbed his chin and kissed him on the cheek, licking the bit of whipped cream off his cheek in the process. “You had some on your face.”

Shoyo frowned. “Cut that out, Tomu. I can clean up my own face!” His face twitched, fighting off a smile, but betraying him. He stuck his tongue out at him.

Tsutomu giggled. “But you’re just so cute that I couldn’t help it, Shoyo.”

Shoyo smiled cheekily and leaned forward, kissing him fully. “You’re way cuter than me, Tomu. This is all perfect.”

Tsutomu bit his lip. “So—uh—Shoyo?”

“Yes?” He looked up at him with the biggest, most beautiful gaze he had ever seen.

The look softened him down to his core, as though he were a plank of wood being soaked before being strung up into a bow. As he gazed back, his mouth went entirely dry, his original intent nearly forgotten. He gulped. “You—”

Shoyo raised an eyebrow. “Me?”

He shook his head. “It’s nothing,” Tsutomu sighed. “I just wanted to say that I’m glad we’re out here. It’s nice to have some time to ourselves.”

“You know what would make it even better?”

“What?”

“If we were at home in our sweatpants instead,” Shoyo laughed. “I want to watch something mindless for once instead of old matches.”

“That sounds like the perfect way to spend a perfect day.” They finished eating their crepes and walked home, hands intertwined tightly.

Shoyo sat on the couch, wrapped up in a blanket and smiling softly.

Tsutomu walked into the room holding two mugs.

“Today has been really great, Tomu,” Shoyo said. “Thank you so much. You really are the best. I’m the luckiest person ever.” He smiled brightly.

Tsutomu set the mugs on the table and dropped to his knees in front of Shoyo.

“Tomu, are you alright?”

Tsutomu took Shoyo’s hands and held them gently, his face bright red. He took a deep breath to steel himself. “Everything is perfect when I’m with you, Shoyo.”

“Tomu?”

“I’ve been meaning to say this all day, so I’m going to say it before I lose my nerve.” He took another deep breath and looked him in the eye.

“You’re the most beautiful, skilled, and dedicated person I’ve ever met. Every time I watch you play, it’s like watching an angel soar. I never told you this, but, when you complimented me all the way back at the training camp in our first year, I thought about it for days. I still think about it even now. Every time you compliment me and I see your smile—your gorgeous smile—it’s like I’m falling in love with you all over again.

“Ever since that day, with every day we’re together, I fall for you over and over again. The only thing I have to ask you now is this—” He lifted a leg, now on one knee, and pulled a box from his pocket. He opened it to reveal a simple, silver band. “Will you, Shoyo Hinata, let me fall in love with you every day for the rest of our lives and keep smiling as brightly as you always do? I promise to make you happy, if you’ll please—” He looked up and cut himself off.

A tear slid down Shoyo’s cheek, followed by another, and another. He wiped at his eyes furiously, trying to clear his vision.

“Shoyo—”

“Yes,” he whispered.

Tsutomu’s eyes widened. “Yes?”

Shoyo leaped forward, enveloping him in a tight hug. “I want to fall in love with you every day too. Forever. Even after we die, I promise I’ll still keep falling for you.”

“Even after we die?” Tsutomu laughed. “But that’s ridiculous.”

“And I’m ridiculously in love with you, Tsutomu.”

Tsutomu kissed him deeply, pulling him closer. His heart soared as they basked in the glow of their love.

Later that night, they snuggled together closely in bed. Shoyo drew patterns on Tsutomu’s chest. “So what season should we have the wedding? I was thinking a fall wedding would be nice.”

“Why, so that you can get lost among all the leaves?”

Shoyo smacked his chest with a chuckle. He kissed him on the cheek.

They got married the following winter, picturesque snow falling around them as they fell in love… all over again.
