Part Ten: Sakusa

Summary:

“Sho-chan!” he called out. The members of the team began to file in as practice began. Kotaro smacked a hand onto Shoyo’s shoulder. “So, what are your plans for tonight? Gonna have any big celebration? You are twenty two now!”

The heads of their teammates perked up. Kiyoomi side-eyed the pair from across the gym, lips pursed tightly.

“Crap, Shoyo-kun, I totally forgot it was yer birthday today,” Atsumu groaned. “I’m sorry.”

Shoyo chuckled. “Don’t worry about it. I’m not big about telling people. I’m pretty sure that Bokuto-san only found out because he was curious about it.”

“Yeah, Tsumu-Tsumu, his birthday is available online. All of ours are. I know everyone’s on the team.” He grinned. “Yours is October fifth.”

“That it is. Well, I’ll make it up to ya, Shoyo-kun,” he said. “Let me buy ya a drink one’a these days?” He winked.

Shoyo rolled his eyes with a laugh. “I don’t really drink, but I wouldn’t mind that.”

Atsumu grinned. “I’ll make it worth yer time.” He wrapped an arm around his shoulders, continuing to chat with him.

Kiyoomi watched them while he stretched. He frowned, chewing his lip.

Notes:

This one was fun to write. I always enjoy writing Sakusa. I will say, though, the ending was not originally planned. I hope you like it as much as I do!

Work Text:

Shoyo walked into practice, a skip in his step. He waved at his teammates that arrived before him, giving a more subtle way to Kiyoomi, who acted as though he didn’t see it at all. The reaction, as always, just made Shoyo chuckle. He ran over to greet Kotaro.

Pushing away any negative thoughts, he shook his head, pushing himself further into his stretch. He felt a nagging at his skin at the sight of Atsumu touching Shoyo so casually.

Practice ended and Shoyo stretched where he stood, his muscles sore. He groaned as his back popped and he turned. He jumped out of his skin as he nearly collided with Kiyoomi’s chest. “Sorry, Omi-san. I didn’t see you there.” He smiled nervously.

“Meet me in the locker room.” He walked away without another word.

Shoyo stood, confused with a furrowed brow. “O… kay?” He hesitantly followed after him.

“Leaving early?” Kotaro asked.

“Yeah, sorry.” He rubbed the back of his neck.

“It’s your birthday, go have fun!”

His other teammates gave him birthday wishes as he waved and left the gym. He glanced down the hall, Kiyoomi no longer in sight. He jogged toward the locker room. He didn’t want to make him wait, knowing how he is about his bathing habits.

He walked into the locker room and over to Kiyoomi’s locker, stopping in his tracks.

Kiyoomi shoved a small bag toward him. His cheeks were tinted pink as he looked away. “Here.”

Shoyo took the bag gently. “Is this—”

“Yes, and don’t tell anyone, okay?” He pursed his lips and stared at the ground.

Shoyo smiled softly. “Thank you, Omi-san,” he whispered.

Kiyoomi looked up, a small smile hesitantly made its way to his face. “Happy birthday, Shoyo.”

Like the sun from behind the clouds, Shoyo’s smile widened and he held the bag close to his chest. “Thank you so much. It means a lot—” he averted his gaze, “it means a lot coming from you.” He hesitantly looked up.

Kiyoomi’s expression faltered as he shuffled in place. “Aren’t you going to open it?”

“Oh! Of course!” He reached into the bag and pulled out a small, stuffed crow. His eyes shone as he looked it over. “You got this little guy for me?”

Kiyoomi looked away with a scowl. “I just happened to see it and remember your birthday. Don’t mention it… ever.” He turned back to his locker.

“So you don’t hate me then, do you Omi-san?” he teased, turning the gift over in his hands. “You were pretty mean when I first got here, but you must actually like me after all.” He giggled as he hugged it gently.

“Sure, I like you. Happy?” He laughed softly. “Now, leave me alone. I need to get in the bath before the others start filing in.” He grabbed the collar of his shirt and pulled it over his head. He shook his hair out of his eyes, startling when they met Shoyo’s. Embarrassed, he blushed and looked away.

“Is there anything else you wanted to tell me?” Shoyo asked, eyes squinted into scheming crescents.

“No. There’s nothing else.”

Shoyo giggled and placed the bag and plush onto the bench. “Okay, then I hope you don’t mind me hopping in with you.” He looked him in the eye as he crossed his arms over his stomach and slowly pulled off his shirt. Once the shirt was off, he brushed his hair back and sent Kiyoomi a flirty glance.

Kiyoomi stood beet red, looking away quickly. He stole another glance only for Shoyo to wink and blow him a kiss. Kiyoomi clicked his tongue and stepped toward him. He grabbed him by the hip and pushed him against the lockers, stepping closer. “You better not be messing with me, Shoyo,” he whispered hotly.

Shoyo smirked. “Only a little bit,” he whispered back.

“Little shit,” he scolded. He leaned down and connected their lips.

Shoyo closed his eyes and leaned into the kiss.

Kiyoomi kissed him slowly, savoring the feeling of their lips together. He hesitantly threaded a hand into his hair, sighing into the kiss.

Shoyo slithered his cold hands delicately up Kiyoomi’s back, making him shiver.

Kiyoomi’s brow furrowed. He deepened the kiss, boldly licking into his mouth. He brushed the roof of Shoyo’s mouth, making him squeak quietly.

Shoyo pulled himself in closer, their chests pressed together tightly.

Kiyoomi hummed into the kiss. He pushed him back up against the lockers, his grip on his hip tightening.

A sharp whistle rang out in the locker room, startling them both.

“Wow, you two, do you really think this is the time or place?” Shugo said with a chuckle.

The two separated sloppily, a string of spit breaking between them and jumped apart.

“I’m sorry, Meain-san,” Shoyo said.

“Don’t worry about me,” he said with a wave. “I don’t care, but the others might, so you need to be more careful, alright?” He looked at them with a stern, caring expression.

They both nodded.

He smiled. “Good. Now you better hurry up. Atsumu and Bokuto are heading in soon.” He turned to walk away. “Oh, and don’t worry. I won’t tell anyone what I saw.”

“Thank you,” Shoyo said.

“Thanks, captain,” Kiyoomi said right after.

Shugo winked at them over his shoulder and walked away with a small wave. “Hope you have a fun birthday night, Shoyo.”

Kiyoomi grimaced. “I’m going to have to bathe with everyone else now, aren’t I?”

Shoyo took his hand. “How about you go out with me tonight to make up for it.”

“Really? I’m told that I’m not much fun to hang out with.” He turned away, frowning deeply.

Shoyo placed a hand beneath his jaw, turning him to look at him again. “I don’t care what you’re told. I just want to spend tonight with you, Omi-san.” He leaned up and kissed him on the cheek. “So please, come with me tonight.”

Kiyoomi’s eyes widened, marveling at how brightly Shoyo’s eyes twinkle. To him they looked like the stars that dotted the sky. He melted with a goofy smile and hugged him. “Yeah, I’d love to join you.”

The rest of the team soon filed in and the two bathed quickly, trying to sneak out as swiftly as they could. In the dark of night, they escaped, their hands intertwined.

After sharing a few drinks and exiting the chosen bar, Shoyo giggled, dragging Kiyoomi behind him.

“C’mon, Omi, let’s go,” he slurred. He leaned against his chest heavily. “Come home with me. I wanna wake up in yer arms, just like in the movies.”

“Shoyo,” Kiyoomi chuckled. “You’re drunk. I’ll just walk you home, alright?”

Shoyo hugged him tightly and nodded.

They walked together, Shoyo moving more at a stumble, and safely made it to his apartment. They entered the doorway.

“Okay, I’m going to go home now. Goodnight, Shoyo.”

Shoyo grabbed him by his sleeve and pressed his forehead against his back. “Omi,” he whispered. “Please—” he choked on a sob. “Please don’t leave me alone.”

Kiyoomi’s eyes widened and he shut the door. He turned around and pulled Shoyo into a crushing embrace. He stroked his hair gently, soothing him. “I won’t. You’re okay. Just please, please stop crying.”

Shoyo smiled and rubbed his face against Kiyoomi’s chest as his hands shook. “Thank you.”

“Where did this even come from? You were fine a few minutes ago.”

“Don’t want,” he hiccuped, “to be alone again.”

“Again?” he asked softly.

“I was all alone last year,” he slurred. “Pedro took the night off and I went out by myself. It was horrible and I got puked on.” He sniffled. “I don’t want to be alone like that again.”

Kiyoomi kissed him on the forehead and looked him in the eye, a soft determination held in his gaze. “Then you won’t be. You never have to be alone again.”

Shoyo smiled and melted into his chest, nearly going limp in his arms.

The two slept peacefully that night, wrapped safely in each other’s arms. Shoyo’s tears dried and became endless galaxies once more, and Kiyoomi a humble stargazer.
