“Urgh.. Ow.. Where am I...?”

“Oh, you’re awake.”

“Huh? B-.....yakuya..”

Makoto felt strange to say the least. His small body was numb, and his mind was fuzzy, along with his eyesight foggy and blurred. There was a strange tingling sensation in his right eye, which kept twitching every few seconds.

“... Ak To.. Ma Ot O... Mak to....”

The brown haired boy couldn’t understand a word of what his friend was saying, he tried to properly open his eyes, but it was to no avail.

“.... Makoto. Can you hear me?”

Suddenly, he could (kind of) hear right again. And than, just as sudden as his hearing coming back, a hand entwined with his own. “Squeeze if you can understand me.” The tall blonde instructed.

The shorter one obliged and tightened his grip on the other boy’s hand, letting him know that he was awake and could now hear everything correctly.

“Excellent. Kyoko’s getting a drink, she’ll be back soon. Until than, how are you feeling?”

“...Weird.. It’s like I can’t feel a thing..”

“Don’t worry about it, it’ll be fine. It’s just medication. You’ve got a lot of injuries.”

But Makoto hardly heard any of what his friend said, because he was focusing on two words in particular.

“Don’t Worry..”

It sounded so.. gentle. And caring. The former Ultimate Lucky Student wondered if he had imagined it, it had sounded so sincere.

“....”

“...” Neither of them said anything for a while, Making the room feel strange and awkward.

Makoto than realised he had been staring at Byakuya for a while, and so he quickly bent his head down, only to notice his bandaged up arms, which immediately took him by surprise.

“H-huh!? W-What happened!?” He asked worriedly as his eyes shot open. (Even though it made the right one feel even weirder.) “Ssh. Relax. Like I said, you’ll be okay, Mako.”

Before the pale man could continue, Kyoko rushed into the room. The former affluent progeny must have somehow notified her that her lover had woken up, judging by how relived and slightly happy/nervous she looked.

“Oh thank god! He’s awake! How is he?” She inquired as she took her partner’s hand.

“He seems confused, and very dazed. But the medications working since he feels numb. I’m sure he’ll be alright.” Byakuya explained.

“Anyway, as I was saying before, you got.. Well to put it simply, you got jumped on the street. They left you severely injured, probably thinking you were dead, idiots, but thankfully you were smart enough to call me, I came and found you, and called an ambulance.” The tall blue eyed male elucidated.

It was a lot for the small one to take in, and the other other survivors couldn’t help but notice his shoulders shaking, as if he were frightened or in disbelief.

Byakuya, not being the best comforting person in the world, awkwardly pat his head a little. “Hey, like I said, you’ll be fine, I promise.”

“... Um.. Where am I, exactly..?” Makoto asked, lightly poking his lip.

“You’re in the hospital. You’ve been here for a couple of hours now.” The detective answered, tangling her fingers in his spiky light brown hair.

“Woah, really? H-How long h-have you two been here?! What time is it!? I-It looks really dark outside!”

“It’s 4:30 AM. And we’ve been here since you arrived.” Byakuya said.

“Shouldn’t they have sent you guys home?”

“Well-”

“Byakuya lied and told them you were his little brother.”

“Kyoko shut up-”

But Makoto had already heard and was already laughing.

“Glad to know you care about me! I never knew that!”

“Shut. Up.”

———

Around ten minutes later, the blonde left the room, claiming he was going to get a drink. And so Kyoko sat down in a chair next to her boyfriend’s bed, before beginning to speak to him.

“Y’know, he was really worried. I think he had actually been crying when I got here, his eyes were super puffy and red.” She announced, a sly smirk on her face, knowing how embarrassed Byakuya would be if he were still here.

“W-Wait really!? Are you sure we’re talking about Byakuya Togami!?” Makoto joked.

In return, the silver haired girl giggled. “Apparently we are. Shocking I know, he has a heart.”

Makoto still couldn’t believe it. He had really cried for him? Byakuya really cared that much? It seemed unbelievable.

“Babe? Babe, you’re lost in thought.” Kyoko said, snapping Makoto out of his trance.

“H-huh! Oh! S-sorry, Kiri!” The boy apologised, realising that Byakuya had returned.

“So, um.. will I be in hospital for long?”

“Probably, judging by how injured you are.”

The littler one let out an annoyed and aggravated sigh, his green eyes rolling around in a circle.

“Ugh, but I hate hospitals!” He exclaimed.

“Tch. Trust me I’m well aware.” Byakuya said, his mind tracing back to a time he had been in a hospital for a terrible sickness, and the whole time Makoto had stood there with an anxious and angered face.

And than The Ultimate Hope let out a yawn, his lips smacking together a little.

“....Tired..” He said sleepily.

“Well, you’re in a bed for a reason. Go to sleep than.” Byakuya told him.

“..That’s what I’m doing, Kuya.” The sleepy male said, his voice tinged with tiredness.

“Well, goodnight, hun.” Kyoko said as she gave him a small and careful hug, along with a small kiss.

Byakuya and Kyoko definitely weren’t leaving. Since Byakuya had (lied) told them he and Makoto were “brothers.”

———

Three minutes later, Makoto was (looked) asleep, so the detective and the former heir started a “private” conversation.

I still can’t believe you told them you and Makoto were brothers.”

“...Well, in a way, I wasn’t lying. Makoto does feel like a little brother, sometimes, and I do care about him far more than I care for anyone else.”

Oh if he could have moved in that moment. Makoto would have immediately jumped out of that horrible hospital bed and thrown his arms around Byakuya in a hug. He was never letting him live that down.

At the same time, he felt super happy. Byakuya admitted to him feeling like a little brother? It didn’t even few like he was talking to Byakuya anymore. This time for real.

——— Soon, everyone was beginning to grow very tired, but Kyoko and Byakuya didn’t want to leave Makoto’s side, so in the end, they just decided they would crash at the hospital, seeing as the former heir had lied about being Makoto’s brother, which gave them access to sleeping in his room. (Even though nothing to sleep in was provided.)

So eventually, The lanky blonde boy ended up sleeping on the chair next to the bed, a blanket draped around his broad shoulders, whilst the lavender eyed detective slept beside her lover, taking great caution in not bumping into him.

“......Goodnight.” Byakuya said.

“Night.” “Goodnight.”

———

Thirty minutes passed, it seemed Kyoko had already fallen asleep, but Makoto wasn’t sure about Byakuya.

And so, he decided to check if he was awake.

“I heard what you said.”

Surprise, surprise, he was awake.

“.... Well I-“

“.... Did you really mean it? When you said I felt like your little brother?”

“.... Ugh.... Yes. I did.”

And than Byakuya did something very surprising, he stood up, and than he wrapped his arms around Makoto in a meticulous hug.

“You’re important to me, Makoto. I truly do care about you, Little Brother.”

Neither of them could believe what had just came out of the dirty-blonde haired male’s mouth, and the brown haired one just stared at him in shock, his eyes practically shining.

“I.. Uh.. It’s late. We should go to sleep.”

“Y-yeah..”

God, he was even stuttering. Makoto was at such a loss for words after the event, he couldn’t even speak at this point.

“.... Goodnight, Makoto.”

“Goodnight, Kuya.”

The Ultimate Hope than clutched onto the previous Ultimates affluent Progeny’s arm as he prepared to go to sleep, a faint smile appeared on his little face as he yawned, and at last, went to sleep.

Normally, Byakuya would just shove him off without a hint of remorse or shame, this time however, he happily let Makoto rest on him, listening to him quietly snore and watching chest rise up and fall down over and over again.

These were strange feelings, feelings he want used to having, nor had he expected to feel, but all of a sudden, it had happened. And now he had no idea how to deal with it.

....... The next few parts of his life were gonna be difficult, different and peculiar, that was for sure.

It didn’t take long for his own eyes to start feeling heavy, and for his vision to go blurry, despite his glasses (which he had somehow forgotten to take off) which clearly meant that he himself was starting to get drowsy. So, he removed them, tried to get as comfortable as you could whilst sleeping in a chair, and went to sleep.

All with Makoto still sleeping on his arm. Which Byakuya was very worried he would accidentally hurt more, making it even harder to sleep.

But.... in the end... it would.. surely... be... worth it.

His train of thought was cut off by him falling asleep.

And that’s how it stayed until the morning, three people, one injured, one questioning, and one detective.
