While the fairy had been a bit trickier, the boy was easy enough to render unconscious. He was unprepared for the spell, without a shred of defense against it. He looked over the crumpled little body, small and weak. That could be fixed. In time, he could mold him into a true destroyer of evil, a force to be reckoned with. Even in sleep he could be changed. Ganondorf would die by his hand. He was the Goddess’s Chosen, after all.
What Rauru had forgotten about was the sword.
He could feel the stirring of a sentient mind, called by the boy’s touch. It was her.
What manifested before him was not what he expected.
She was so small. Petite and childlike and not at all what he had expected. Wasn’t she supposed to smite Hyrule’s enemies?! Rauru found himself quite disappointed.
“What are you doing?!”
Damn it. She knew he’d knocked the boy out. He had to do something. He was the Sage of Light! He couldn’t just throw away his carefully laid plans just because a sword found his methods distasteful. He was a far better servant of Hylia than she.
The girl— no, the sword— gasped in unmistakable pain as Rauru lunged for her, the same spell he had used to subdue the boy piercing the crystalline core in her chest.
Even so soon after awakening, she was still made of much sterner stuff than a human. She fought it; oh, she certainly fought it. He had to use every drop of magic he had to immobilize the struggling spirit. She couldn’t even spare the energy to speak.
But Rauru had reserves of magic miles deep, thanks to his status of Sage.
Slowly, her struggles weakened until they ceased altogether. The spirit looked into his eyes. Betrayal.
“...You…!” she whispered, horrified.
And then, with a tiny sigh, the little eidolon went limp. His power had smothered the brilliant mind that had only just reawakened. He watched the listless little body dissolve back into the sacred sword.
What had he done?
...What he had to do.
She was a weapon. That was her purpose. To smite. His future champion wouldn’t need companions. He would need power. The power to destroy all who opposed the gods. The spirit was unneeded.
And that was the end of his musings.
He gathered up the boy and proceeded with him into the Light Temple.
