Work Text:

Richard and Gavin were, unsurprisingly, the first to leave the party.

While the two were okay with dragging each other to events, they preferred staying at each other’s apartment and doing random stuff.

They walked to the second story of the apartment where Richard lived with his brother. It was silent and uncharacteristically tense. They were both anticipating what would happen.

When they finally entered the apartment, Gavin toed his shoes off and headed straight to Richard’s room as he usually did when he was there. Richard liked seeing him do that, as if he lived with him. It seemed very domestic.

Richard hung up his coat and carefully removed his shoes. Then, he grabbed two water bottles along with a bag of premade popcorn he and Gavin always shared when they came over to each other’s flat from the kitchen before heading into his room. It was their tradition.

Gavin was laying in his bed, which was queen sized and done with deep gray covers. He was watching some random YouTube video on his T.V., which was the only thing illuminating the dark room. He looked up to see Richard, holding bottled waters and bags of popcorn, staring at him. Silently, he scooted a bit to the side to make space for the taller man, who slid into the spot silently after putting the items on his night stand.

“So,” Richard started as he muted the TV with his remote.

“So,” Gavin mocked lightly.

“Uh, I don’t know how the fuck to do this, being honest.”

“Well, I’d say let’s start with general feelings, huh?”

Gavin sat straight up, which Richard copied. They sat facing each other. Richard tried to focus on things in his room: his desk, the painting on his wall, the dresser that also served as a media stand. However, he clearly noticed how Gavin trailed his eyes.

“Look at me, Richie.”

Gavin cradled Richard’s face with both his hands, and turned his head to face him. Something in the latter's chest thrummed as he heard the nickname.

Richard didn’t hesitate to follow through the motion, pouting as he did. Something in his chest thrummed as he heard the nickname. He felt his face run dangerously hot.

“Uh,” he started.

Gavin’s eyes bore into his own intensely, making him feel ironically small.

“Well, I’m sure I’ve made this clear, but I-” he took a deep breath before saying his next words as fast as possible.

“- kinda wanna date you if that’s okay,”

“Woah, woah, woah. I think we both know I am not a rapper and that I can’t understand you when you speak like that.”

“Fuck... why are words hard?” Richard complained dramatically, throwing his head into the crook of Gavin’s neck.

They sat like that for a little while. The heat of Gavin’s body seeped through his clothing, making Richard’s face run a little too warm. However, he didn’t want to pull away.

“I care about you, so fucking much,” Richard mumbled, his voice muffled.

Gavin patted his head.

“I do, too.”

“I just had one of those periods where I can’t help but become a social hermit, like before.”

Richard sighed contentedly as he felt fingers card through his hair.

“I really missed you, even though I was the one who intentionally tried to run from you.”

“I know, I missed you as well.”

“Sometimes I just wanna disappear.”

Richard wrapped his arms around Gavin, taking comfort in his heat. He wanted to cry, but he tried his best not to.

“That’s okay.”

“You don’t hate me, do you?”

“Never have, never will. It’s gonna take an unbelievable amount of shit to do that.”

Gavin chuckled and looked down at the heap of a person that laid on him.

“I love you so much.”

“I love you, too.”

Richard hugged Gavin a little tighter, making him melt. His heart skipped a beat.

“How about another kiss to make up for you ghosting me?”

Richard felt Gavin’s gaze lingering on him, his skin itching and his mind wanting

“Would 10 kisses be enough?”

“Hm, I mean, maybe it could take 50 to make it up to me.”

Richard suddenly surged up, grabbing the neck of Gavin’s shirt and pulling him into a harsh kiss.

Gavin let out a surprised sound. The impact felt so satisfyingly hot against his lips. He kissed back with an equal vigor.

Desperation seeped into every move as they blindly moved with and against each other. The taller of the two felt a light thrum beneath his skin. It was euphoric.

Suddenly, they pulled away with harsh breaths.

They didn’t speak for a few seconds, trying to steady their hearts. They were both flushed: Richard’s face ran red and Gavin’s neck was dusted pink.

“Was that enough to make it up to you?”

“Not sure, Richie. I think I’mma need a bit more convincing.”

Gavin gently took the other’s face in hands and ran a thumb against his lip. He leaned closer, their lips almost brushing. He scanned his face intensely.

Richard nearly wanted to shrink under his gaze.

“You need to make up for all that time you lost with me, hm?”

Gavin’s voice was low. A hint of something mischievous was in his face  His green eyes were shining in the barely illuminated room.

“Yes.”

Richard was absolutely breathless. He shivered.

Gavin slowly, tantalizingly, brought their lips together, parting his lips to meet Richard’s own. His tongue gently brushed against the other’s lip, who parted them without resistance.

Richard felt hot all over as they kissed slowly. Gavin’s hands slowly tracing over his back felt like electricity, lighting up his nerves.

When they pulled away again, Richard wished he didn’t need to breathe so he could keep chasing Gavin’s lips. That didn’t stop him from trying, but Gavin had to put a hand on his chest to stop him from suffocating him in kisses.

“Be my boyfriend?” Richard asked suddenly, looking up to meet Gavin’s eyes.

“Yes, of course I’ll be your boyfriend. You have no idea how long I’ve wanted that.”

Gavin smiled, his face flushed now. He buried his head into Richard’s neck this time, mirroring their position from earlier. Seconds in this position grew to minutes, and at some point, Richard laid his head against his. It felt perfect.

“Come on, let’s change before we sleep,” Richard said, breaking through the silence and pulling Gavin from his almost-sleep.

Gavin smiled at that. Of course Richard would have them change before sleeping despite them both coming from a party and being a little tired. He would much rather just fall asleep like this, but Richard hated sleeping in his day clothes.

Gently, Richard picked up Gavin, carrying him bridal style. The latter gave him a lop-sided smile as he was carried to the dresser.

Richard picked out clothes for the two of them, and they changed in a comfortable silence.

It felt so strangely domestic, yet perfect doing this, in Gavin’s eyes. When he was finished, Richard’s clothes hung a bit loosely from his frame. The taller of them two liked wearing slightly baggy pajamas, as they were more comfortable in his eyes. This meant that anything and everything he owned would fit Gavin really loosely, as he was a few inches shorter than him.

The clothing made Gavin feel all warm and fuzzy and happy to wear. He took Richard’s hand, and led them to bed.

“Let’s just fucking sleep already.”

He pulled Richard, who faced away from him, to his chest and tangled their legs together.

“You’re so warm,” Gavin mumbled into his back.

Richard hummed and took his hand, gripping it firmly. He took a blanket and draped over their bodies.

Before Richard could drift off, he kissed the back of the other’s hand, knowing he was asleep.

“I’m glad you love me the way I love you,” he whispered.

Notes:

I didn't know that this would end like this BUT! I hope you liked it! Gavin and Nines/Richard are super soft as usually (for the most part). Thank you for reading :)
