Work Text:
Eijiro answered a work call at 11 that morning, and was supposed to be back by dinner time at the latest… yet here he was. Now midnight, Katsuki was sleeping in his bed alone, having just put his daughter to bed, and without his husband.
Katsuki twisted and turned in bed, not very comfortable without his big ass big spoon’s comforting presence, or the strong and slightly scarred arms wrapped around him. He lifted his head off his pillow to quickly glance to his nightstand, where his fully charged cell phone laid, just in case something happened. Eijiro was supposed to be home hours ago, but yet, nothing. No news coverage of any sort of Red Riot bust, no new notifications of articles being published about a Red Riot fight, and no voicemails from their agency. Not even a text from the other man, causing his husband to drown in his own thoughts while laying in a bed much to big for just himself. Katuski already had to deal with comforting his young daughter- he needed to be comforted too.
Drifting in and out of sleep, he would constantly wake with a jolt just to check his phone. He sighed heavily at the screen showing him a his empty screen. No new messages, and that the time was now 1:03 am. Another hour passed, and still no Red Riot. Where the fuck are you, Eijiro?
Katsuki subconsciously started twisting the ring on his finger- the one he always wore whenever he wasn’t working- which has started becoming a nervous habit whenever he got too worried or anxious about his much-too-heroic-for-comfort husband.
Katsuki sighed once again as he drifted back to sleep. It was another dreamless sleep, before he was softly awoken by a slight tapping on his arm. He woke with a jolt and a yell of his husband's name, before looking to the edge of his bed, and seeing his young daughter.
“Asama, what are you doing up? You should be in bed.” Katuski asked in a whisper, sitting up and turning his bedside lamp on. He looked to Asama when his eyes finally focused in the light, and saw her clutching the little Red Riot doll they got her- as a joke- for her 2nd birthday. Tears were streaming down her tan and chubby cheeks, paired with snot dripping from her button nose. Her red eyes- Eijiro’s eyes- glistened in the slightly darkened room and her black hair was greasy on her forehead, as if she was sweating. Asama was around 6 years old now, and definitely took after Katsuki when it came to having a much to tough attitude, so when she was crying… you knew it was bad.
“Asama,” Katsuki asked softly, “what’s wrong?” He scooped up his daughter and cradled her in his arms like he used to when she was first born, and she nuzzled slightly into her father’s shirt.
“Where’s daddy?” She whimpered into Katsuki’s shirt- well, it was one of Eijiro’s old work out shirts that didn’t fit him anymore- and the blond’s heart slightly broke at the sight of his daughter like this. Was it even possible to cheer her up?
“Baby, he’s out on a very important job right now, fighting bad guys and saving so many people as we speak.” He spoke softly and calmly, stroking his daughter’s hair. The words didn't do much to deter her though, and he might've just said it allowed more for himself.
“But-” Asama sniffed loudly, “aren’t we important too?” She whimpered, looking up from her father’s shirt to meet his eyes.
Large crocodile tears leaked from her eyes, and she wiped her nose with the back of her hand. Katsuki grabbed a tissue from the nightstand and wiped her nose. “Of course we are. Hey- you remember how we told you all heroes have to have some sort of identification on them at all times?” Asama sniffed wetly, before nodding her head. “Well, did you know your daddy always has a picture of us on him with it? Right behind his ID, so he knows we’re always there with him.”
It was true, after a rough night of playing hero, Eijiro broke down while clutching the photo. He sobbed on their kitchen floor, explaining to Katsuki that they were the ones who gave him the strength he always needed to keep fighting.
Asama sniffed once more, “really?”
Katsuki kissed his daughter's slightly reddened nose, “really.”
“But- but what if- but what if something happens, dad? What if- what if daddy’s really hurt or he’s in danger and-” Asama began to ramble before being shushed by her father.
“Then we would be the first people notified. I have my phone right here Asama, and the second I find out your daddy’s in danger, you know we are going to go down there and save him. We would kick some bad guy butt, and rescue your father like the super awesome heroes we are.” Katsuki exclaimed confidently, before diving to tickle his daughter. She squealed in delight and tried to push him away, only for him to give her a massive rasberry right on her belly button. She laughed loudly and grabbed her fathers face, bringing it up to connect their foreheads.
“We won’t let anything happen to him, right dad?”
Katsuki looked deep into his daughter's crimson colored eyes. “Of course.” By now, all her tears were gone, and the sadness was replaced with tiredness. She yawned loudly, reaching for her stuffed Red Riot plush.
“Honey, do you want to sleep here tonight?” Katsuki asked his daughter, lifting the blanket just enough for her to crawl under if she wanted. Asama smiled a big toothless grin- having just lost her two front teeth last week- and climbed into bed next to her dad. She snuggled into her father’s chest as Katsuki wrapped his arms around her. He heard Asama’s breaths even out quickly, and he kissed the top of her head softly. Reaching out from under her slowly, he turned off the light, and snuggled into his daughter.

Later that night, Eijiro came stumbling into the house, completely and utterly exhausted. His agency needed back up in transporting a bunch of villains to a high end security prison, and of course things went south. Because of how exclusive the information was about the transport, there was no media coverage, and he wasn’t allowed to bring his phone. So, after wrangling up a dozen or so villains, it was easy to say Eijiro was absolutely, one hundred percent, very tired, but that didn’t stop him from stepping lightly into the house. He would rather go back to fighting those dozen villain's than wake his sleeping family, one who's known for being the most angriest of heroes, and the other who genetically inherited said trait. It's like walking on eggshells in his house if either of them didn't get enough sleep, and don't get him started on when both don't get enough.
He crept into his and Katsuki’s bedroom and turned on the nightstand's light, and noticed the cell phone next to it. The red headed man smiled softly; Katsuki was worried about him. He turned to his husband, only to be met with a sight that made his heart positively melt.
Katsuki was spooning their daughter, who in return was snuggled into Katsuki’s chest, clutching his shirt and her Red Riot plush with white knuckles, her lips openly drooling onto Katsuki's chest. Kirishima resisted the urge to clutch at his heart and melt into a puddle on the floor. He absolutely adored the sight of his daughter and husband having soft moments like this, I mean, who wouldn’t love seeing this? The two things he loved most in the world, snuggled up together like two peas in a pod.
Eijiro quickly stripped himself of his hero suit, which he purposefully didn’t change out of at his agency so he could get home quicker, and changed into his pajama pants. He reached over Asama and kissed his husband’s forehead, making Katsuki stir, which made Eijiro fear he might have woken him up. Under his breath, Katsuki mumbled “you’re late,” as one of his eyes crept open.
Unknown to Katsuki, but if sleepy Katsuki asked Eijiro to jump off a cliff, he'd ask him which one. So when Katsuki grinned up at him with half closed eyes, Eijiro couldn’t help but smile largely back to his husband. “I’m sorry love, can I climb in bed with you and Asama?”
Katsuki wrinkled his nose, but closed his eyes. “As long as you don’t smell.”
Beaming, Eijiro carefully crawled into his bed next to Asama, and spooned her from her other side. The red head wrapped his arms around Katsuki, who snuggled into Eijiro’s neck and wrapped his arms tighter around Asama and the redhead.
“You smell,” he whispered, earning a soft chuckle from Eijiro.
They both froze as they felt Asama shift, who turned from her dad and into the middle of the two. She squirmed in her sleep, releasing the death grip on Katsuki’s shirt just a little bit, but now resting her head on Eijiro’s bare chest.
Eijiro listened to his husband’s breathing even out on his neck, and turned to press a light kiss to Katsuki’s forehead. When he turned to his daughter, he watched as slight driblets of drool fell from her mouth and onto his chest. Stifling his laughter, Eijiro sighed in content. It was the nights like these, with his daughter and husband wrapped in his arms, that Eijiro felt so utterly happy to be alive.
