The Beginning

“...This just made me sound crazy, didn’t it?”
The stares from the other three girls sort of gave it away. Each one was twisted in a form of confusion. Ai’s was more of a soft crinkle of the nose, her eyes slightly narrowed and her head tilt to the side, similar to a dog. Rika’s was more harsh, her mouth slightly opened to show her teeth, her nose had that same scrunch, but just more extreme and she seemed on the verge of laughing at any moment. Neiru was the most subtle, with her eyebrows furrowed only.
Momoe sighed in defeat, slouching back in her chair. Part of her wanted to believe they would understand, after all, they fought terrifying trauma monsters in a sort of dream, cracked people from eggs, and used simple objects as weapons. She supposed seeing a strange flashing light that strangely followed her around and made strange whispers toward her was a little crazy, but it was the truth.
”It’s not like we don’t believe you.” Ai started.
“You don’t have to believe me, it’s alright.” Momoe assured, interrupting Ai’s line of thought. Momoe slouched over in her seat, lifting up some of her food to play with it. It had been a month past the incident, it was still hard to swallow food, but some of it still went down. She bit into the dumplings they shared, careful not to spill the soup on herself. She swallowed before speaking again, “it’s a little crazy.”
”Ehh..” Rika groaned in annoyance, her posture was slouched too, her arm over the chair and her gaze fixed on Ai at the moment, “Then let’s not worry about it. I’m tired of sitting here. Let’s get going!” She smirked, standing up and grabbing her bag.
The others shrugged and followed suit, getting up and following Rika toward one of the other stores to the mall. Momoe walked a couple steps behind, glancing behind her to see that floating object, still following her.
It glowed a bluish color, similar to her own vest, yet somewhat lighter. It seemed to produce a soft sound, similar to a low hum, almost as if it is humming along to a tune. Momoe has tried to touch it, but it seemed to have a conscious of it’s own, dodging any reach from her fingers. Something was off about it. Something very off. Momoe narrowed her eyes at it and breathed in.
Their group split up shortly after that. Rika decided she was tired, and the others agreed to that. Momoe was fine with it, she was getting warn out from the day of mall trips and running around. Now all she had was a walk home.
”Momoe.”
Momoe’s loafers dragged on the ground for a moment as she skidded to a stop. She stood still, facing forward with that same scrunch of confusion on her face. Warped, her eyes narrowed and her mouth slightly agape. The voice sounded almost familiar, however Momoe couldn’t place her finger on who it was.
”Momoe.”
The girl held her breath, her eyes widening as she turned around, only to see the strange floating light again. It hovered ominously, flashing in a slow rhythm of blue and white. Momoe then narrowed her eyes at it.
”What?” She asked, her breathing shaky. She had seen some weird things lately, battled monsters and saved people, but.. something was off. This was different.
It didn’t say anything. It hovered, and it almost felt as if it was staring at her. Momoe found that odd. It had no eyes, no brain, but it seemed.. sentient.
Momoe liked to consider herself just a bit logical, however.. her own nerves overtook her and she reached out, her fingertips resting on the light. She felt nothing for a moment, almost as if her fingers slipped through it. However in a moment, a blinding flash occurred, sweeping her off her feet and landing her on the hard concrete. Her vision blurred and felt dizzy, and her consciousness faded.
(This one was short! But this was only an introduction and more of a practice write.)
