    When he doesn't move she feels her chest tighten, a feeling heavy like lead sinking into her stomach. She walks into the light drizzle, barefoot and still in her pjs, slowly coming around to face him, something telling her to give him space.

    "James?" She whispers again and feels her heart come to a shuddering and painful stop as she gets a good look at him. It's his eyes that give it away. She's seen them sad, defiant, shy, sparkling with joy and even blown wide with pleasure, but she's never seen them like this. She's never seen them empty.
