Work Text:

Not every day can be a good day. Even small, insignificant  things can build up and just grate on your soul. Anything from bad weather you weren’t prepared for to spilling your lunch in your lap to a professor taking their annoyance of the world out on you or your shitty parents deciding to randomly call you to complain you never come home.

It had been such a day for Beau.

She had trudged to Yasha’s apartment, feeling so small and worthless after such a bothersome day that the moment Yasha saw her she wrapped Beau up in her arms and simply held her. Beau melted against Yasha instantly, her arms wrapped around Yasha’s ribs and hands clutching at the back of her t-shirt.

Yasha held Beau for a long while in the middle of her living room, well over twenty minutes. She hummed and sang softly in Celestial, soothing Beau’s frayed nerves.

Once Beau was calm, Yasha made them dinner. It wasn’t anything fancy, just some steaks and potatoes. Afterwards, they lay stretched out on the couch, Beau half on top of Yasha. Yasha had one arm wrapped around the human, the other held a book Beau had recently gotten for her.

Yasha all ready owned the book to be honest but she had owned the book for so long and had read it so many times that it was quite literally falling apart. There was no longer a front or back cover and the first few pages were so worn they were pulling away from the glued spine. Yasha would still read the tattered thing, as it was one of her favorite stories, so Beau had surprised her with a new copy that Yasha immediately started to reread.

So they laid on the couch, Beau snuggled close to Yasha’s side while Yasha read her book. After a while, Beau tilted her face up towards Yasha’s and the singer looked down at her with a smile. She laid the book down on her stomach and gently cupped Beau’s face with her hand. Yasha gently pulled Beau toward her and the human went willingly, and tenderly kissed her.

Yasha had kissed Beau hundreds of times and each time made Beau feel like she was the most important person in the world, that no one else could compare. Even quick pecks made Beau feel like she was made of light and Yasha was the luckiest person in the world to get to be the one to kiss her.

They pulled away softly and smiled at one another. Then Beau turned and tapped on the book. “Read to me,” she requested softly.

Yasha was more than halfway through the book. She picked it up and flipped to the first page without complaint and began to read, her soft voice gently washing over Beau.

Beau closed her eyes, settling her head back onto Yasha’s shoulder as the older woman began to read the tale of an older woman and her life as a geisha.

Beau let Yasha’s voice wash over her, soothing her all ready calmed nerves, happy and content that Yasha would always be here to take care of her.
