Work Text:

The song lured Technoblade, hypnotized as he wandered along the rocks towards the shore, waves crashing against the sand as the ocean buffeted the shoreline.

His pink tresses roamed loosely and freely as the wind blew, wisps coming undone as the well-groomed head of hair bedraggled. The wind was relentless, whispering to the warrior, attempting to beguile him into the waters.

Positioning himself on a boulder, he unsheathed his sword from his scabbard. The cold air whirled, the green leaves decorating the trees trembling in submission.

A picturesque scene was painted in front of the warrior who had trudged so far, with boulders nearby housing a boy flaunting a damp mop of hair comparable to the treasures a dragon would hoard.  Fair skin with droplets of water trailing down, the cloudy day didn't dare to mar his hair's radiance, the locks that twinkled like stars at midnight.

The boy seemed to be pulled to the mysterious waters, the tides not daring to touch the surface he was perched on. He hummed like a siren who was luring a sailor in. His voice was rough but enticing. Petrichor was wafting through the air, leftover from the rain that had previously devoured the forests.  The impregnable soldier was dazzled, compelled as he tuned out all other sounds—from the monstrosity of a hurricane to the leaves swaying and rustling in perfect harmony.

His tight grip on the blade loosened. The man wore a silk blouse, frothing at the cuffs. His wings were decorated with feathers of a green shade, two cuts in the back of his clothing to let them hang free.

Technoblade's eyes moved from the hair to the boy's lack of legs. Scales decorated a tail that moved and flapped, a vermillion color that contrasted with the gray tones of the sky.

"Hello...?" The avian called out, catching the attention of the creature who let out a yelp of surprise. Technoblade's mind and ears pleaded for more of the melody which had abruptly ended. He drew his hand forward, reaching out even though there was significant distance between them. "I come in peace!" He hollered, trying to speak over the growling storm.

The boy tensed, eyes darting around- first towards the wings that decorated his back and then towards his quaint attire. He seemed ready to dash at any moment, escape and never come back.

"What's your name, young sir?!" Techno shouted, thoughts telling him to capture the youth and take him back to the castle.

The boy seemed to mutter a few words. He then looked up and saw how Technoblade's brows furrowed, before clearing his throat. "My name is Tommy, deaf bastard!"

Tommy, a name that wasn't elegant or extravagant, not one fitting of royalty yet still perfectly rolled off the tongue. Speaking of the tongue, the boy had quite the foul one. Spitting out such an insult to a royal family member could get his head chopped off, did the boy even know? The question wasn't that, the question was if the boy cared?

Techno had to depart, he didn't want to go away and forget about this moment but he needed to head towards his kingdom and report to his father about the borders.

The kingdom was so close but so far, and there was no guarantee that the boy would stay. He couldn't take a fish from water though, no matter how much Technoblade was urged to.

"Will you be here tomorrow, Tommy?" Techno asked, trying to hide the hope in his voice. Tommy stared forward, seemingly stuck in thought before letting out a nod.

"Tomorrow! Same time, the same place!" Techno said before he traversed back from where he came from. The usually stoic man was attached, just from one look. His father or brother could never know about this, the disappointment that would fill their eyes. He couldn't let them know that he had let someone who inhabited the sea escape. The sea dwellers were already the mortal enemies of those who traversed the skies.

He dressed more modestly the next day and sat atop a boulder, sunbeams shining and birds chirping. The solemn atmosphere of the day before had vanished, replaced by a cool summer breeze and bright blue skies. Technoblade adorned himself with gold earrings, his previously unruly hair was coiled into a long braid, and his sleeves were rolled up to let the summer heat caress his skin.

A head emerged from the water close by, to which the prince cracked a smile. "Tommy, you came?"

"You think I wouldn't? This may be the only time in my life I get to see an avian up close and personal." He huffed, pushed himself up, and sat down next to Techno. "I ain't missing that for the world."

"Same with me... I'm sure if my father found out I was even a foot close to an alive sea dweller, he'd go berserk." Techno laughed, a tinge of sadness in his voice as his joy faltered.

"Can you tell me your name?" Tommy suddenly asked, jolting Techno out of his gloom. "I've told you mine, but this can't be one-sided, you know?"

"You can just call me Technoblade." He smirked and ruffled the boy's hair, which caused the younger to freeze. Techno was about to raise his hand until he started to notice the blonde leaning into the gentle touch. "It must be cold, living underwater, huh?"

"You've got no idea..." Tommy chuckled and shifted to the side, closer to the warmth.

After a few moments of silence, he felt a thump on the right side of his shoulder. When Technoblade heard snoring, he spread his wings and encased the sleeping merboy. Perhaps taking a detour home yesterday was the best decision he'd ever made in his life.
