Work Text:
“Death comes on a pale horse.”
The voice that had hissed those words in the back of his mind slipped away like so much smoke on the wind. A part of him that he could do well do without but in the end was, on the odd occasion, useful and someone had to pay the price for useful.
So, it may as well be him.
Though they had forced the Nogitsune from him and destroy it, some of it had stayed with him. Not the part that wanted murder and pillage, but the part that had a thousand years of knowledge and history, the part that could read the signs and taste trouble in the air.
Not that it was of much help, it was still one of Loki’s children, a trickster, and troublemaker, it still lived and breathed the chaos that the monster of the week could bring. But it valued its existence so wasn’t above helping when it thought it was necessary.
More than once he’d searched to see if he could get rid of the echo of the monster that had almost shredded his mind, almost killed his pack, his family. Had killed Scot’s innocence when it had taken Alison from them. But the only ways he could find to remove it involved him dying and praying that he would come back, and he’d done that, got the t-shirt, and the possession as well. Not risking that again thank you very much.
Even though the way that the warning had been worded amused him somewhat as it reminded him of a book that he’d read as a kid. Borrowed from the no-go section of his Dad’s bookshelves, he knew better than to not take it seriously.
Things had been as quiet as it ever got in Beacon Hills recently, but it looked as though that might just have been the eye of the storm and things were about to pick up.
His decision now was who did he tell? Those he would have to lie to about where he’d got the information from and probably wouldn’t be taken that seriously until they were up to their neck and drowning as a result.
Or to the person who would take him seriously, and he didn’t have to lie too but wouldn’t do a thing about it unless there was something in it for them.
Derek and Scott or Peter? The rock or the hard place?
Either way they were probably going to be screwed.
