Day 20 - Dancing
Lev’s company was holding a banquet to celebrate its tenth anniversary. As far as your typical company went, the graphic design firm had a pretty young population, and the banquet was essentially meant as a night to thank the employees and their significant others with some good food and a dance floor.
Morisuke had broken out the only dress in his wardrobe, a red dress with cute little frills on the sleeve and decorative twill down the back.
He seemed a bit nervous as he and Lev approached the fancy hotel that the company had rented out for the event.
He was already worrying at the hem of his skirt and glancing around, and Lev just heaved a sigh. “You didn’t have to….”
“Say it one more time, I dare you.” Morisuke snapped.
Lev put his free arm, the one Morisuke didn’t have his hand looped into, up in surrender. “Ok, ok, jeez. You know I think you look stunning.”
"You're biased."
"So sue me if I am."
This drew the lightest snicker from Morisuke, and Lev considered that a win.
They arrived and made their way into the banquet room with little difficulty.
Once inside, it was revealed the room was already pretty crowded with employees and guests, grouped into different sections. The dance floor was still empty, but a nice cheerful number was already playing throughout the room. The ambiance so far was lovely.
“Lev-san! I’m glad you could make it!” An alphian woman with bouncy light brown hair in a snappy black pantsuit with a white button-up strode towards them, smiling brightly.
“Hey, Suzuki-san, how are you? This is a great set-up.” Lev replied, equally as cheerful.
Suzuki was the leader of Lev’s group at the company, but they didn’t act much like a subordinate and a boss. The tight-knit groups of the company completed different commissions together, so they weren’t that worried about formalities.
She turned her gaze from Lev’s face to Morisuke, and the auburn-haired omega didn’t miss the flicker of shock that went across her face just for a moment.
“You must be Lev-san’s mate! It’s so nice to meet you!”
Yet somehow, she doesn’t seem belittling. Guess that’s fine.
“Yeah, Haiba Morisuke. Nice to meet you.” He greeted back, perhaps a bit short.
Lev and his co-worker then carried on in spirited conversation for a while.
“So your mate couldn’t make it?” Lev asked, looking around.
Suzuki wilted slightly. “No…he had a business trip come up. He’d picked out a dress and everything! He was almost more disappointed than I was.” She laughed after this, then spoke. “But I’m glad I got the chance to meet you, Haiba-san! Lev-san talks about you all the time.”
“I suppose I’ll hope he’s saying good things,” Morisuke replied, and Lev put on a mock-gasp as if affronted.
“Are there bad things to say? I’d never!”
Suzuki’s eyes crinkled in the corners with her smile. She seemed genuinely happy to be talking to them. “How did you two meet?”
Lev blinked owlishly, and Morisuke sighed. “Nothing that exciting. High school. Volleyball. High school. One thing led to another, and here we are.”
Suzuki tilted her head, curiosity piqued. “You played volleyball together?”
“Mori wasn’t someone who jumped; he was a libero! So he received the balls that made it through everyone else. So it’s ok that he’s short.”
“Lev, if I wasn’t wearing a dress, my foot would be up your ass right now.”
As Lev chuckled nervously, Suzuki put her hand up. “I’m sure it’s more exciting than that, but I’ll leave that story for another time! Hopefully, my mate will be able to make it if we ever have another event like this. Enjoy the party, guys!” With that, she left them and scurried off to go greet someone else.
So Morisuke and Lev wandered over to the buffet table, and within the next few minutes, they were caught in conversation with all sorts of different people. It was a hectic night, but the food was good, and Morisuke would agree that Lev was right in saying the people at his company were actually pretty nice altogether.
After a few plates of food, some pleasant conversation, and maybe a couple business-typical connections being made, the clock was running low, and Lev broke away from his final socialization partner of the night.
As they walked out onto the sidewalk into the cool night air, Lev stifled a yawn. “Well, that wasn’t too bad, huh?”
Morisuke relented a half-smile. “Yeah, it was alright. Catering was good. And a few of your co-workers were pretty cool.”
“Right? It’s a good company, for sure.”
The walk home wasn’t far. They lived in the city as well, and within a few minutes, they’d made their way to their building and were heading up the elevator.
“Y’know, after some people got drunk, they were on the dance floor,” Lev commented as Morisuke unlocked the front door and let them in.
“I wasn’t in the mood to drink,” Morisuke replied, and Lev shook his head. “Nah, me neither. Besides, not with us walking home. But I was just thinking, dancing would have been nice.”
Morisuke scoffed, kicking off his shoes in the front entryway and walking into the living room.
“I’d prefer not to embarrass myself in front of a bunch of people I don’t know.”
“Mori…I think you’re a good dancer!”
“We’ve danced, what, twice?”
Lev had loosened his tie a bit in the doorway and trailed Morisuke into the living room, managing to grab one of his hands.
“Why not make it three times?” He spun his omega under his arm once.
Morisuke raised an eyebrow as if he were too tired to consider it and just let himself get spun. “No music?” He replied.
“I don’t think you’d humor me long enough for me to turn the speaker on.”
“Fair point.”
Lev turned them once on the carpet, then tucked one of his hands against the small of Morisuke’s back and started swaying to and fro.
“How hard could it be?” The alpha prompted.
“Dancing? Damn hard, unless you’re just doing whatever we’re doing.” Morisuke laughed after this statement, reaching up and tugging Lev’s tie further down.
“You couldn’t keep it done up for even three more minutes?”
“Why should I? It’s itchy.”
The red tie fell to the ground, and Morisuke rolled his eyes fondly as they swayed to whatever imaginary music Lev had made up in their living room.
“You’re ridiculous. You really are.”
“Well, maybe next time I’ll turn the speaker on.” Lev dipped Morisuke back at this and kissed him, with one of the omegas hands fisting the front of his collar.
Once he brought him back up, Morisuke swatted at his chest. “Give me some warning!”
“For what, the dip or the kiss?”
“The dip! What if I slipped?”
“You’re not heavy, Mori, I'd catch you.”
Lev then easily swept his mate off the ground at this, wanting to prove his point, and laughed brightly at how he received a pretty intense string of curse words flung in his direction for the move.
“Put me down!”
“Aw, but you’re all dressed up too! It’s like a fairy tale!”
“Oh, my god, it’s too late at night for this.”
“If it were any earlier, you’d have slapped me by now, so I’m taking what I can get.” Lev kissed him again, a bit deeper than before. He could just barely taste the lingering sweetness of lip balm that must have been used to prepare for the evening out.
They broke apart on account of Morisuke yawning. “At least I don’t have work tomorrow.”
“Neither do I.” Lev grinned after this statement and then carried his omega to bed.
