Unpack your baggage, 'cause need to talk! (how much did you leave out?)

Summary:

Doomsday was the last time Technoblade had sat down and truly talked to Dream. Now that Dream has been recovering from prison for a couple of months, Techno's been dreading the conversation that's long overdue.

Techno never knew the full extent of what Dream did, from L'manburg to now or. He just knew the basics, until conversations Tommy and Ranboo after Wilbur's resurrection the full tale.

Today was the day they were finally talk about it.

Well, Techno's in for a wild night.

Notes:

We will be briefly mentioning manipulation of Tommy and Ranboo, mentions of enderwalking and all of Ranboo's lore and nightmares, parental abandonment, abandoning family and friends in general, implied self harm, and implied child abuse (if forcing children to fight at fight clubs counts). If I forgot anything, please comment and tell me.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Techno has been dreading the day this conversation had to happen.

He knew Dream had been hurt. He was broken in prison, abandoned by his George and Sapnap leaving him, and had dealt with so much, more than he could imagine but he also knew that he had done just as much harm to him, to Tommy, and so many others.

Techno used to pride himself on knowing Dream like the back of his hand. He was the one Dream would come to with all of his issues, whether it be to spar it out or just to have someone to talk to. He knew what made Dream tick, how to make him grin from cheek to cheek, and how to calm him down when needed, from both anger and panic.

He memorized the tell tale signs of him breaking down, and all the triggers that set him off even before the prison just as much as he did memorize the melodies he'd hum when trying to focus and the ways his eyes glimmered when sparring. Over the years, he learned to love his terrible wheeze of a laugh, appreciate each and everyone one of his scars, and had realized what love was through the many times patience and mercy had to be exercised again and again with knowing Dream.

In any case, he knew he was a simp. Chat chanted that phrase too many times for him to even try to deny it anymore.

Sure, he didn't know Dream's past from before that fateful day the two met. He only knew what his nine year old self knew then; Dream was hiding mental and physical scars, had some sort of family issue, and was terrible and had emotions because of it.

People think that Techno's the one who'd be terrible with dealing with emotions just because Dream's the best at masking them and shoving them aside. Sure, Techno's not the best at carrying an easy smile through when anger builds and he will voice it out, but when he has an issue, or when he messes up, he's not afraid to say it. He's open to those he trusts, always tries to pick his words carefully (silver tongue be damned), and won't shy away because of doubt of not being accepted and whatnot. Being honest comes naturally for someone like him.

Dream can't even handle admitting when he's injured, for crying out loud!

When Tommy came knocking at his door from his escape in Exile, Techno still thought that he knew who Dream was, until the first night happened. When Tommy, his tommy, the annoying yet brave soul that he is, shook in his arms as he sobbed about what Dream had done to him, taking away his last shreds of mental stability and love for himself, he shook in anger. How could Dream ever do anything like that, let alone to Tommy of all people?

The next day, after Dream found Tommy in his home, Techno snuck out that night and broke up with Dream, breaking his matching gold ring off of his neck's chain, and slicing it with his blade in front of him, signaling what he thought the end of a three year long relationship was. Family was more important than any romantic endeavors. He still believes that to this day, and he'd do it again., he reasoned, pushing away the part of his brain screaming at him to remember that Dream was family to him.

That didn't mean that there wasn't a single minute where his mind wasn't screaming to hug Dream, to kiss him one last time, or wasn't still thinking about the small smile he'd miss seeing in his daily routine. It also didn't mean that the small part of his mind that was begging for Techno to stop blocking out the red marks he thought he imagined seeing on Dream's legs and arms that one brief look at him he got after the breakup months later, or the part of him that begged him to look at Dream's tired stance, and refusal to look at Techno during Doomsday, and the tone and constant mocking he did and only does when he's ten seconds from breaking down.

When he started to hear more of Tommy's and Ranboo's confessions of what Dream did and all the pain he caused, even Techno managed to curse Dream's name and broke the promise he made when they were 15.

He remembered that night like it was yesterday. He remembered trying to ramble away his nerves as he described the constellations up above to Dream. Eventually, he took out the golden bands, made of the oldest golden nuggets he had since childhood. What once were items of comfort in moments of anger of his past turned into a symbol of his care.

Silently, Techno placed the ring in Dream's hand., snorting in Piglin. "Dream, I know there’s going to be a day where we won’t be able to sit side by side like this anymore, but I want you to promise me we’ll stay a family, Can you fo that for me”

He smiled how those tears of joy fell down Dream's cheeks and the sight of them, and how he hugged Technoblade, sobbing as if this were his first time having something akin to family. He remembered the pained expression on his face when broke his ring in two just as clearly.

He's never thought there'd be a day that would happen. Never thought that he'd ever hate Dream, let alone ignore his call for help when he needed it most, claiming he was busy that fateful day of Dream's arrest. Techno knew the torture Dream went through would never be his fault, of course, but he knew just as well when Ranboo told him about his imprisonment, Techno immediately dismissed it, out of disbelief and contentment at the thought of it.

One truth was clear as could be; Techno left him when he needed him most. Even though Dream hurt others, what he did caused him to be just another George. Another Sapnap. Another Puffy. The irony of becoming the thing he swore to never become was shown swallowing him during the first month of Dream's recovery. He remembered the hesitancy Dream had after the two weeks of him seeping in and out of conscious because of his body shutting down from all of the damaged bones and blood loss from the torture.

After those first couple of weeks, Dream’s voice was still shriveled after months of forcing himself to stay as quiet as possible, minus the sparse times he couldn’t hold his agony in. Techno remembered the first time Dream finally stopped getting in and out of consciousness, that was when he knew just how much damage he did.

Techno was reading a book that day until he heard a loud thump from his bedroom. Quickly, he rushed upstairs and found a panicking Dream curl into the corner between Techno’s dresser and bed. He quickly knelt beside him, arms frozen, unsure of Dream’s reaction to touch. He then remembered what Phil did to calm himself down when losing his temper. Techno cleared his throat and spoke in piglin, trying his best to sound quiet and calming.

"Breath in one, two, three four. I’m here, Dream. Now let it out; eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two one.” He repeated this over and over, until Dream’s breathing evened out.
Techno watched as Dream fell out of his trance, feeling dull, mossy eyes locked into his own.

“You left me there, didn’t you?” Dream accused, voice rough, yet still carrying weight.

Techno fell dead silent. His head fell, frozen to that spot. He hated even now how he couldn’t say anything to that.

It took admitting to Philza one day about Dream and his relationship to realize that Dream’s atrocities couldn’t have just come out of nowhere, and that talking about Dream’s reasoning would have to happen.

As Techno waited on the couch with Phil for Dream to join them, his thoughts raced even more, and the grip on his mug tightened. Did Dream ever manipulate him when they were dating or before then? Did those red marks he conjured in his mind mean more than he realized? How much did Dream not tell him? Could he even forgive-

"Techno," Phil began, calmly resting a hand on his shoulder, "Breathe. It'll be okay. We knew nothing then, but we can change what we do now. Breathe with me."

Techno took in a slow breath, and exhaled, trying to calm down. With Phil's guidance, his mind managed to calm down.

Phil was right. Worrying wasn't going to help. Dream made mistakes. Techno made mistakes. Things were complicated. It was going to take a lot of time and talking, but they could at least start to get through the mess of everything that's happened. Dream could be forgiven over time.

Techno tucked himself further into his nook on the couch, his blanket shuffling with him. He reached his right hand to hold his tea mug and took a sip. The crackle of the fire helped him give his mind something else to focus on as he waited for Dream to meet them in the living room.

After a couple or minutes, Dream, wearing the cerulean and ivory dotted pajamas Phil gave him, plopped onto the couch, grabbed the jade blanket next to him, and laid it over himself.

Phil nodded towards Dream. "Are you ready, Mate? If you're agreeing to this, you can't try to hide about anything. We're laying everything down, and if you're not ready yet, we have all the time in the world, especially if you’re still shaken over Tommy’s visit."

Dream shook his head, a small smile forming on his face. "That's okay, Phil. I need to do this. It's time you two knew the truth."

"So..." Techno started, tapping his hand on his leg, "Where do we wanna start? We could start with backstory and history first, but it might be easier to start with a run down of everything you've done from your perspective to Tommy and others."

Dream froze in his seat. "Backstory? I thought you just wanted a list of what I did."

Techno sighed, lifting his head to face Dream. "Dream. when we said everything, we meant everything. I know that there's lots you haven't told anyone that needs to be said. You didn't trust me enough back then to even admit what you were doing to Tommy, even, and now I don't even know if I could even trust you with me again.”

Techno paused as feeling Phil’s hand cover his own. The shocked expression on Dream’s face made him freeze, but he calmed down, clearing his throat to continue.

"Dream, I loved you even after hearing how you broke Tommy, and I still do, and as much as I can't say I have the same confidence in you as I did before, I still want to be with you, and I know you do too. While I don't know everything, I can at least say that I've seen you want to change, and you’ve already shown progress." Techno continued, crossing his arms at his sides.

"That being said, if this is gonna work, then I need you to be open with me. I need to know everything; what you did to Tommy, Ranboo, Punz, and everyone, why you did it, you before you met me, and everything. No lies this time. I'm not going to love a man I never knew. Not again."

Techno saw Dream's face scrunched in thought, an internal battle raging in his mind. Eventually, he lifted his head again, with a weary, but determined look in his eyes.

"Ok then. I'll start with Tommy, but first, answer this for me." The hesitance grew as Dream lifted a finger in accusation.. "Why did you tell me Tommy and you were brothers?"

Techno's mouth dropped as his brain completely shut down. Phil stilled for a second, until he burst out laughing, making everyone turn towards him.

He only stopped when Techno threw his pillow at his face, making hin stop to catch air.

"What? It's hilarious! You can't blame me for laughing at finding out you never told him. More importantly, does he even know who's biological and whatnot?"

Dream perked up at the comment "Are you saying Tommy... well..." Dream quieted as his hand lowered. "isn't biological?"

Techno and Phil look at Dream's nervous face, glanced at one another, and started dying. "Wait, you're serious?! Tommy?!"

Dream sputtered, at a loss for words. He sulked, pouting as he crossed his arms. "Well, excuse me for grasping at straws here! I only realized it after finding Tommy in your home, and Tommy’a the only one that looks like you, Phil. "

Techno and Phil laughed even harder at that comment. "Dream, Tommy's adopted, like Techno. Will's my only biological son."

"WHAT?! But how?" Dream shouted.

"Did you seriously think hair color was enough to assume?" Phil, asked, laughter reducing to chuckles."

"Yeah, yeah, laugh it off, sure! But you still haven't answered my question."

"I mean," Techno spoke. "I thought you already knew. I know that when we grew up and all, you never really wanted to talk to my family and Tommy came when I was seventeen, and you had left then to start Manhunts and stuff, but you're telling me you never noticed?"

"No! Do you seriously think I would have done what I did to him if I knew he was your BROTHER?!"

"Not really sure how to answer that one, Dream. You don't necessarily have the best track record, after all." Techno replied.

Dream fell silent. He shrunk back at those words. A pained expression fell on his face. Seeing it broke Techno's heart, and it caused him to fall silent too.

"Ok, that was a bit uncalled for-" Techno started, but Dream cut him off.

"No, no, it's fine." Dream raised his hand weakly. We should get back on topic, anyways.

"Whenever you're ready." Phil added gently, giving Dream his full attention. Technoblade followed suit.

Dream nodded, coughed once, and started.

"So, my 'track record,' as you put it, isn't the best, I'll admit. I'm sure you guys know how I treated Tommy during exile, and it seems like Tommy’s been talking to you guys regularly, so I’m assuming he caught you up to speed with everything concerning him and Tubbo from exile to prison, correct?”

“You mean the whole ‘I’ve taken something from everyone and I'm gonna kill you’ spiel thingy? Yeah, we know.” Techno answered.\

“Well, for what I did then, I have no defense for that. I did what I did because I thought control was the only way I’d be able to get the server back to its old, no government, no walls, just friends being friends, self. You both know by now that that’s part of why I opposed and blew up L’manburg, and while that doesn’t justify what I did, I still believe that while my means were absolutely horrendous, my goal was just.” Techno watched Dream’s arms tightened around him, and he paused, trying to collect his thoughts.

“Along the way, I got power hungry, and it led to abandoning George, Puffy, Foolish, Sam, Punz, Sapnap, manipulating Tommy and Tubbo, stealing everyone’s stuff to manipulate them to go against me, forcing Punz and Sam to build the prison, continuing wars I could have stopped, taking cannon lives, and scarring everyone while believing I was right. There’s probably issues my actions have caused that I’m not aware of, but those are the things I most directly impacted.” Dream finished.

Techno nodded, as he took in the information, some of which, like info for Sam and Punz, he didn’t know. He watched as Phil’s eyes narrowed as he opened his mouth to speak.

“What about Ranboo, Dream?” Phil asked.

Dream blinked, cocking his head. “What do you mean? The only time I’ve interacted with Ranboo was during the meetings about Exile and when I found out about the Community House being blown up.”

Techno’s eyes narrowed at those words. Sure, Dream sounded sincere, but Ranboo himself told Phil and him about everything, from enderwalking, to the panic room. They had to sit him down the same way they’re doing for Dream now. It'd be impossible for Dream to not know what they’re talking about.

“Dream, you already said you wouldn’t be shying away from anything. Just come out and say it! What did Ranboo mean when he told us about you talking to him in his nightmares and enderwalk thing he does?” Techno spoke curtly,

Dream let go of himself, shooting up straight in his seat. “Wait, Enderwalk? What are you even talking about?! I’m serious! I don’t know what Ranboo told you, but whatever you’re talking about wasn’t me. And what do you mean ‘talking in his dreams-’” A look of realization spread across Dream’s face, and it made him freeze.

“It wasn’t me, but I think I know who it was.” Dream mumbled, turning to face Phil. “Phil, did Fundy even tell you about the Dreamon incident?”

Techno watched Phil nod. “Kinda. He didn’t fully explain it, but I have a general idea of how it works, but what does that have to do with Ranboo?”

Dream’s face darkens, but continues. “There’s this thing I like to call ‘Nightmare.’ It’s what I call the Dreamon abomination.” Techno’s flinches when Dream’s voice turns to venom at the mere mention of it. “It’s a part of me, in a sense. It’s not really me, but it uses my mind and body. With Tommy and everyone else, I was in the right mind, but you mentioned that these ‘Dreams’ of Ranboo where I’m talking to him, that isn’t me, that’s Nightmare.

Dream shifts in his seat, as if he’s looking for something. Techno face turns puzzled. He didn’t remember seeing Dream carrying anything to his seat, so what would he be shoveling around for? His attention quickly shifts back to Dream as he hears Dream hum, as if he remembered what he was looking for. He watched as Dream let out a jumbled sound, kinda like that of the sounds He’d hear Ranboo make when speaking to himself in Endermen, and eyes widened in disbelief as he saw a pitch black, faded, almost version of Dream appear in front of his eyes.

Techno’s shock at that almost made him miss how Dream’s hands turned black with white splotches over them, how Dream’s eyes turned from their usual mossy color into the recognizable ocean blues and emerald of ender eyes, the dark horns that protruded next to his ram horns, or more importantly, the giant wings that split through Dream’s shirt, adjusting slightly.

“This, over here,” Dream said, gesturing to the flickering version of him above “is Nightmare.”

Technoblade, jumped out of his seat, and eyed the weird… Nightmare thing in front of him. “DREAM WHAT THE HECK? You can’t just drop THIS-” Techno waved his arms at Nightmare wildly. “And the fact that you’re a FREAKING HYBRID like that! Where was this conversation five years ago?!”

“So let me straighten this out so far,” Phil paused, taking another lance at Dream’s wings. “Everything so far, exception of Ranboo, is truthfully because of you, you regret everything you did to those people and how it hurt them, but fighting against L’manburg isn’t something you regret. Ranboo’s issues aren’t you, but this… Dreamon thing, and you’re also an Ender Dragon hybrid, wings as well?”

“Yep! It’s a lot, isn’t it?” Dream asked, brushing off his wings. “If it’s too much, we can pause for now and continue later, or, if you’d rather me leave after having what I’ve done being confirmed” Dream said, eyes avoiding Techno and Phil’s gaze to only look at his wings, “I could do that too.”

Techno paused, seeing how Dream’s hands tapped on his wings. He recognized that habit of his. He always did it as a way to distract himself before he started to cry or break down. The sad smile that formed on Dream’s lips made his heart break into two.

“What made you think you weren’t going to be staying with us, Dream?” Phil gently asked, sobering up after hearing Dream’s words.

Techno saw Dream’s face shift from emotion to emotion. His eyes widened in confusion, at first, and then into something akin to anger at the furrow of his brow, But he heard his hand tap a new, erratic rhythm, and saw him look up, as if he was struggling to not cry.

“What made you think? I literally confessed to exploiting Tubbo, Tommy, heck everyone! I’m the reason why your son’s died! I break families and friendships apart just so I could feel some semblance of power in something that should have never been mine in the first place!” Dream shouted, waving his arm at Nightmare. Nightmare dispassitated, heading somewhere Techno could never even begin to explain the logic of, and he Techno watched that broken laugh fall out of Dream’s lips as he slumped further into the couch, head falling into his hands.

“I can’t fully wrap my head around how many ways I hurt the two of you. Phil, I killed your sons, only to hand more trauma to Tommy and to push Wilbur to obsess with me of all people. I can’t even promise that I wouldn’t make that same mistake again if I got the chance to try again. And Techno, I cut you out so I could focus on making Tommy bleed and broke you enough to make sure you’d never trust me again, and I relished in that!”

“Dream,” Techno interrupted. “That’s not-”

“Techno, please.” Dream begged. “I need to finish this.”

Techno opened his mouth to continue, but Phil squeezed his hand gently, shaking his head. Techno sighed, and continued to pay attention to Dream.

“It’s just hard for me to understand why you guys would still want to care for me, after all I’ve done. I at least can justify the prison rescue, and I get why you guys helped my wounds despite how long it’d take to help me heal, even if it wasn’t part of the deal. It must have felt implied.” Dream continued.

“This,” Dream said, gesturing to himself, “And everything I admitted to should have been when I finally got kicked out! Once favors are done, you move on, and when someone messes up, you’re supposed to cut them out, unless they have to stay out of necessity or for favor purposes. I have no leverage over you, and you have no reason to keep me around past this point. Tommy’s visit should be encouraging that decision too, so why?” Dream finished weakly.

Techno looked at Phil as he saw him get from his part of the couch to go sit next to Dream. He noticed how Dream waved away his wings before Phil sat down. Dream’s eyes dilated as Phil’s arms wrapped around him. Tears started to fall from Dream’s cheeks as he trembled in Phil’s hold, trying to hide his head into Phil’s eyes. The scene would have melted Techno’s heart if it weren’t for the small hiccups Dream let out, or the way his arms froze, as if unsure if he were allowed to hug back.

Phil gestured for Techno to join them, and hesitantly, Techno picked up his blanket, sat next to Dream’s other side, and draped it over the two of them.

“Dream,” Phil questioned, combing through his hair with his hands. “Where did you learn that from?”

Dream paused, face scrunching up. “What do you mean? That’s just how things work, you know? At least that was what I was taught.”

Techno winced at the confession. “Dream, no one is supposed to be treated that way, let alone taught that. Who even taught you that in the first place? Your parents?”

Dream slowly let go of Phil to face Techno properly, turning from his position on the couch. “Techno, I never actually had parental figures, or a home, for that matter. I lived in the End, for a while. Until these two people from the overworld found me and gave me a place to stay, as long as I stayed with them and fought for them in these fighting clubs they ran. When I got tired of fighting, I fled to the closest open server I could find, and adapted to living in the wild. That’s when I found you.”

Techno and Phil fell silent at that. Techno couldn’t believe it at first, but now looking back, how did he not notice when Dream would always shift away from the topic of family when they were younger? He remembered how he had always thought it was weird how Dream always refused to meet Wilbur and Phil back then, yet he would sometimes catch Dream staring through the window with an unreadable expression on his face. Back then, he brushed it aside, but the signs were so clear. If only he said something back then. Would he have been able to provide Dream the family he needed? What would have changed, if he did?

Techno felt a gentle arm pull him away from his train of thought. He turned to see a sad smile form on Dream’s face. “I didn’t want you to know, Techno. I felt ashamed at saying it because back then I thought that I was just weak for admitting to wanting a family. Eventually, I found one in you, but I felt like I wasn’t deserving enough for one when you talked about yours, so I never asked to see your family. Then, I found one in Punz and Sam, and that grew to people like George and Sapnap,.” Dream said.

“This server was born to attempt to expand the family. I guess we know how well that last part worked out, though. It’s kinda funny, in a way. I got the family I was yearning for for years, but I was the one that made it fall apart. Guess I never really deserved one in the end, after all.” Dream laughed bitterly.”

Techno wrapped his arms around Dream, setting his chin on Dream’s shoulder. “Dream, you’re still family to Phil and md. You’re always welcome to stay, and you’re always welcome back into our lives. Neither of us were intending on kicking you out or banning you from our lives. Did you think that we weren’t going to let you try again after all you’ve been through? You should know us better than that by now.”

Dream sighed, and finally wrapped his arms around Techno, closing his red, puffy eyes, and letting out a relieved sigh. “Could you blame me though? Nothing that I did is supposed to be redeemable, and most didn’t, anyway.”

“No one’s denying that, Dream,” Techno said, hugging Dream tighter. Dream tightened his hold in Techno’s grip at the comment. “But that doesn’t mean we’re going to let go of you that easily. We’re not denying that you’ve messed up or that you hurt us, but look at me, I killed Tommy’s best friend and destroyed Tommy and Wilbur just as you did Tommy and Tubbo. I’ve hurt many lives too, but they forgave me. And it’s not like you did it without your reasons either. Endings never justify the means, but your reasons and goal were pretty solid. You’re redeemable, Dream, and you can change. Don’t let Tommy or anyone else tell you otherwise.” Techno scolded, flicking Dream’s head. Dream yelped at it, raising his hands to his head. Techno let out a laugh at the sight.

“You’re gonna have to understand that it’s gonna take a lot of time for us to have the same trust in you as we did before, and that’s especially true with everyone else, but as long as you’re willing to try, others will learn to forgive as time passes.” Maybe not Tommy or Tubbo. But George and Sapnap still miss you, even if they’ve led you to believe otherwise.” Techno concluded.

Dream hummed in Techno’s arms, slowly starting to nod off into sleep. “Can we save anything else for tomorrow? I’m getting sleepy, and we already ate and washed up earlier.”

“It should be okay to. We’ve discussed pretty much everything already. I might ask for more details about your past, and we’re definitely talking about the hybrid situation, but I’m getting tired too.” Phil replied.

“You gonna go next door, Phil, or are you gonna stay here?” Techno asked. “I mean, we’re all tired already, so we could just sleep on the couch.”

“Awwwww, Techno, it’s okay!” Phil cooed, slowly standing up. “You can just admit you want Dadza cuddles again, and Dream’s never slept with wings wrapped around him too.”

Techno flushed, cheeks turning bright red. “No I don’t! I just meant sleeping on the couch! Don’t twist my words, old man.”

“What does sleeping with your wings out feel like?” Dream asked. “I normally sleep without shifting.”

“Maybe Ender Dragon hybrids don’t have to shift to sleep, but since Bird hybrids can’t wield their wings, we have to sleep with them outstretched so they don’t cramp. The boys, and Techno especially,” Phil added, poking at Techno’s sides, “Enjoy it. It’s one of the few times where I find Techno not actively waking up at six in the morning to go spar or some crap. It’s quite nice, actually. Now come on, It’s time to dump the blankets and pillows on the floor.”

Techno grumbled as he started reaching for the folded blankets placed on the couch as well as the three blankets each of them used and laid four out, wide enough to where there was enough space for each of them. Philza passed him, taking the pillows on the couch and placing them above the blankets. Techno laid down to the left, taking one of the folded blankets next to him and draped it on top of him. Philza laid down to the very right, and Techno took two more folded blankets to hand over to Phil.

Techno eyed Dream and his wary figure, and watched as Dream hesitantly laid between the two of them. Techno grabbed another blanket and tossed it over Dream, scooting closer to him, and turned to lay his right arm over Dream. Phil adjusted himself to his Dream’s left and adjusted his wings so they covered Techno and Dream’s bodies. The cool grey feathers cut out the last sheds of life from the fireplace.

Once Techno saw Dream’s peaceful face, Techno smiled and closed his eyes, pulling Dream closer to his chest.

As Phil cooked breakfast the next morning, Techno watched Dream swing in his spot at the table. After seeing his Ender Dragon form the other day, he couldn’t help but wonder about his Ram form too. It didn’t really add up. How was he able to have a Ram form despite being in the End?

“Wait Dream, Aren’t you Puffy’s kid? How can you be part Ender?” Techno asked.

“Oh, Puffy was still traveling with her pirate crew when she had me. They traveled to the End and stayed in the End cities for a while. She fell in love, had sex, accidently had me and the other guy left her. The other guy took care of me until he died. I was like, four, I think? I don’t remember too well. Did you think the Ender Dragon thing was from Nightmare?”

Techno and Dream winced as they heard glass shatter. Techno whipped his head around to see Phil’s hand wide open, glass surrounding him on the floor.

‘Dream,’ Phil started, trying to keep his face from twitching. “How old were you when you started fighting.”

“Maybe like, five or so. Why?”

Phil quickly flew over the glass, pulling Dream over in a tight hug. When Dream tapped on Phil’s back in attempts to get him to relax, Phil only hugged harder.

Techno laughed as he watched Dream solemnly nod, dramatically raising his arms to hug Phil in defeat. He registered the small victory of Dream’s first time not shoving Phil away from physical affection since his stay in the back of his mind.

“Guess Phil’s your Dad figure now. Now you’re really stuck with us” Techno remarked.

“Well, I guess I could have had worse. Kinda weird. My not-at-the-moment,-healing-first boyfriend’s father is my Dad. Imagine that.” Dream replied.

They all laughed together at that, and as Phil went to grab the broom, Techno smiled. The beginning of a family was finally beginning to form.

Will I ever be capable of writing just straight fluff and comedy? Probably not. Honestly, angst is just so fun, and it's what DSMP characters are made of. You guys wanna see fluff, maybe more angst? Tell me your ideas for this little series of mine. I'll be making more fics and need inspiration.

I'm thinking of making a fic talking more about why Dream's able to understand Piglin that's pure fluff, or at least I'll try to make it fluff only. No promises.

You may have noticed that Wilbur has been mentioned in story + tags of both fics. He will be mentioned later, don't worry. Same goes for other characters briefly mentioned.
