Work Text:
Dionysus didn’t dare look around. If he turned around now, she would be gone. He would see nothing but air.
‘Dionysus?’
He stiffened. He was convinced that if he replied, she would disappear.
She giggled, as if she knew what he was feeling. ‘I am here, Dionysus. I won’t leave again.’
Slowly, Dionysus turned around. She was there. She was there and she was the same as she had been two years ago.
While he slowly laid a trembling hand on her face, she stood still. She felt so real, as if she was really alive again. Her body felt warm. A vision of her cold, dead body appeared in front of him. He shook his head. Away, away with it, it didn’t matter. She was here now, safe and warm.
Slowly, he let his hand slide onto her arm. It still felt as if she could dissappear at an eyes wink.
Ariadne laid her hand onto his for a moment, before laying her arms around his back. She stepped closer and laid her head on his shoulder.
Dionysus put one hand in her hair and another one around her waist. He hesitated for a moment, before pressing her against his chest.
She was real and she was there, he was sure of it now. He could feel her tremble a little. ‘I act so calm, but who am I kidding?’ she whispered. ‘I was so afraid. I thought I’d never get you back.’ It took a moment to realise they were crying.
After a short eternity, they loosened their embrace. ‘How much time has passed?’ She asked in a quiet voice, which was still laced with tears. She wished she could keep looking into his eyes.
‘Two years,’ he sobbed. ‘I couldn’t stop thinking about you for two years. Ariadne, I have to confess, I tried, I thought I had to, but I couldn’t, I just couldn’t…’ Another tear rolled down his cheek. ‘I am so sorry I didn’t come earlier, I should have left right away, I…’
She put a finger to his lips. ‘Two years?’ she whispered. ‘For two years, you thought about me.’ She pulled him closer again.
‘Can you stay with me now? Forever?’
It took a moment before there came an answer. ‘Yes.’ He felt her nod. ‘I had to try and fatom how long forever was. I couldn’t, but I still I want to stay. I can find out.’
He tilted her face so he could see it. He kissed her on her forehead, on the bridge of her nose, and finally on her mouth. ‘We can.’
