Nothing Else Matters

Summary:

Suna and Osamu planned everything to the tee. They just didn’t know that everything was going to go wrong.

“The fuck is up with the weather channel that they can’t foresee a fucking thunderstorm.”

Gin chuckles nervously next to him, as he also notices the wind picking up. Suna doesn’t know whether to laugh or cry at his luck. He was just going to get married for one day! One day! Why can’t the world cooperate with him for one day!

Notes:

I decided to make this a series. I'm thinking of adding a few more of different established relationship SNOS.

I might add a pre-relationship one as well, not sure yet.

Thank you addie for betaing!!!

Work Text:

“What do ya have there?”

Suna pauses in his task of getting his shoes off, and looks up to see Atsumu sitting on his couch, eyeing the package in Suna’s hands.

“What are you doing here?”

“Hello Atsumu, How are ya Atsumu?” Atsumu mocks in a poor rendition of what Suna assumes was supposed to be his voice, as he leans back on Suna’s couch, making himself at home.

Suna rolls his eyes, picking up the package he had to put down to remove his shoes, and in his most monotone deadpan voice, “Hello Atsumu. How are you, Atsumu? How did you get into my apartment, Atsumu?”

“I’m great, and this is also Osamu’s apartment. I have a brother’s right to be here.”

Suna raises an eyebrow, “Where is your brother?”

Atsumu looks away for a moment, “Out.”

“And so I repeat, what are you doing in my apartment, Atsumu, and how did you even get in if Osamu’s not here?”

“I used the key that ya hide in your mailbox,” Atsumu mumbles as he starts eating what appears to be Osamu’s pudding. Suna grimaces at the yelling he would expect later at that.

“You still did not answer the question of what you’re doing here.” Suna places the package on top of their kitchen countertop, and starts looking for a pair of scissors to cut it open.

“Omi-kun kicked me out of the house.”

Suna eyes him, opening a drawer, “What did you do?”

“I did not do anythin’!”

“Hmm.”

“Fine, I accidentally used the laundry detergent that was meant for colors for the whites.” Atsumu stands up from the couch to see what Suna was opening. “In my defense, he bought a new one and the package looked the same!”

“Engaged for only a few weeks and there’s already trouble in paradise.”

Atsumu merely rolls his eyes at Suna’s teasing voice, “There’s always been trouble in our paradise, but it’s paradise all the same.”

Suna just gives him a deadpan stare, “Please keep all that sappiness away from me.”

Suna opens the package at last, after struggling with the excessive tape. Atsumu scoffs at what it reveals, “Talk about being sappy, are those your supposed wedding favors?”

“These are sample ones. For some reason Osamu wanted to try an assemble-your-own wedding favors. If he pushes through with this, he would also need an assemble-your-own husband.” Suna brings each piece out of the box carefully, laying them on the table.

Atsumu rolls his eyes, “Oh please, if he pushes through with this, ’m pretty sure yer just goin’ to tie him up and bring him to the city hall ‘nd elope.”

Suna smirks, eyeing the gold ring that has been on his finger for some time now. Osamu has one as well. After Osamu proposed on that Friday evening, Suna went out to get one for him as well.

No way was he letting his fiance parade himself in that tight black shirt in his restaurant without a ring to ward off suitors.

“The hell is in this?” Suna mumbles as he takes out more and more things out of the box. How they all fit in there was a mystery.

“Okay, Mr.I-hate-sappiness-but-got-my-fiance-a-ring-engraved-with-Rin's-written-inside-it, do ya want my help to put some of this shit together?” Atsumu gives Suna a conspiratorial look as he begins looking closer at the items on the kitchen counter. “We can surprise ‘Samu.”

Suna just looks at him in his usual deadpan look, “You just want to be able to say to him that you used the key for good reason, and that you ate his pudding because you were hungry from helping me.”

“’m still goin’ to buy him new pudding to replace that.”

“Tomorrow is our grocery day, which means that was the last pudding in the fridge. He usually eats them when he gets off work,” Suna says, walking around the kitchen, preparing a mug of tea. He leans away from the counter to stare at Atsumu from the top of his mug. “Work hard!”

Atsumu looks up in time to see Suna depart from the kitchen to settle on the couch. He scowls as he looks back down at the scattered items and sees the papers that contain the instructions.

“What the hell.” Atsumu exclaims as he reads over the instructions, “He’s got like four kinds of send offs here, bubbles, ribbons. For all we know there might be fireworks in here, so try not to light any open fire inside for a few months.”

“Why the hell would we do that, we’re not arsonists.”

Atsumu shrugs, and sits down on the barstool trying his best to assemble the crap that Osamu ordered online.

“How’s the wedding plannin’ goin’?” Atsumu asks, his mouth full of onigiri. Sakusa throws him a dirty look along with a paper napkin to wipe the corners of his mouth. Atsumu swallows and wipes his mouth with said napkin, “Sorry Omi.”

Osamu just shrugs, “It’s actually goin’ great. Suna and I don’t really have any differences in opinion about what our wedding would look like so decision making is flowing smoothly.”

“That’s great Osamu.”

“Ya, that’s great ‘Samu. Hopin’ you don’t use up your luck right now though. They said if the weddin’ plannin’s really goin’ well, then the weddin’ itself will go to shit.”

Sakusa thankfully hits Atsumu behind the head, before Osamu can go in himself or else Atsumu would have more than head pain right now. Probably a few bruises.

Osamu just rolls his eyes at his brother’s words, not believing them one bit.

(He should have.)

Suna grips the phone, “No!”

Gin jumps in his seat at the sudden scream.

“Suna, what’s wrong?”

He hands the phone to Gin and slumps on a seat. Suna bites his lip at the growing frustration and the heavy feeling of his heart sinking slowly in his chest. He doesn’t easily cry but the urge to throw a tantrum was getting stronger.

“Suna-san, we are terribly sorry, but there has been a horrible accident on the interstate. We have been in traffic for the past hour, and we are afraid that we won’t make it in time to place the cake for the reception. We are terribly sorry, we will be there as soon as possible.” Gin reads aloud to the room.

Kita steps up, “I’m on it.” He pulls his phone out from his pocket.

“Kita-san, I know we joke around about you being holy, but there’s nothing you can do.” Suna says, hating it so much that his voice trembled as he looked at the menacing clouds outside the hotel window.

Ever since they arrived at the venue they rented for the wedding this morning, it had been one disaster after another. For one, the aircon in the venue was not pulling its weight at all with the amount of people and he had to suppress his irritation due to the heat, and somehow they just realized that the venue they chose does not appear on a lot of GPS, causing a lot of people, including the caterers, to be late. Suna was trying to tamp in the strong urge to just grab Osamu and pull him to the nearest city hall where they could just elope.

He and Osamu had planned this wedding for months, and he could feel the heartbreak deepen with every blow of bad news. He loves Osamu and didn’t want him to worry, and so he had told everyone to just give all the bad news to him.

“Everything’s going to be okay, Suna,” Gin tries to comfort him.

“The cake’s not here, the minister is late. Oh god, is Osamu even here?”

Suna hadn’t texted or heard anything from Atsumu or Osamu since last night, and he can’t be bothered anymore to find whose hands his phone ended up in.

“Osamu is here and dressed up, Suna,” Kita’s calm voice brings little comfort as he studies the darkening afternoon.

Kita sits down next to him, “Suna. Calm down.”

“Kita-san, everything’s going to hell right now, I can’t be calm.”

“Suna. Why are we doing this whole wedding again?”

“To make Osamu happy.”

Kita smiles at Suna’s instinctive answer, and he feels a bit of heat crawl up his neck at that. “Well, I can’t say that’s wrong, but it’s not the answer I was looking for. I’m askin’ what’s the point of doin’ all of this.”

“To get married to Osamu.”

“Yes, and for that, ya don’t need a cake, the weather doesn’t matter, and most of all schedules don’t matter. The minister will still get here, and if he can’t then plenty of other people can marry ya two.”

Suna calms down at Kita’s soothing words and the realization settles in Suna’s gut that he’s going to get married to the love of his life today. Everything else can go wrong as long as Osamu is there next to him.

Osamu paced the hallway anxiously. Once he read the text on Atsumu’s phone, he wanted to step inside the room where Suna is, from what he had heard, close to breaking down.

Someone had just told him that the strong wind had knocked down a few power lines leading to the open-air venue, taking the electricity out. Good thing the maintenance team was currently on hand to try and fix the problem.

The caterers had just arrived and are currently setting up while also dodging the guests who are taking their seats, and he couldn’t calm down until he was assured that everything would be set up on time. He was almost tempted to just drop everything and help them, just to make sure of it, but good thing Atsumu was there to stop him.

The photographer they hired is currently staring intently at the clouds, as if that would make them go away, and the wind is picking up and the actual wedding ceremony is still 20 minutes away. It’s a clusterfuck.

“Calm down, Osamu.” Aran’s voice floats over the hallway.

Akagi pops his head out from the room in which he was supposed to stay in, “Gin just texted me that Suna is fine and Kita calmed him down. Now come ‘ere, so I can text him back that yer calm too.”

Before Osamu can turn back around, the door to Suna’s room opens, and a surprised Gin greets them.

“What are ya guys doin’ in the hallway?”

“‘Samu was freakin’ out because he heard Sunarin was freakin’ out,” Atsumu blurts out.

“I was not!”

Before Atsumu can sneer at him, judging from his expression, Osamu hears Suna’s “Osamu?”

He turns towards the open door to see Suna standing there.

“Hi.”

“Hi.” Suna smiles. “You should be outside.”

Osamu observes his expression, trying to spy any form of hesitation or worry, but finds none. He smiles softly, “You okay Rin?”

“So okay. Let’s do this.”

“Ya sure? I heard that ya were freakin’ out.”

Suna pushes his left hand out the door and waves his empty ring finger, “Decorate this and I’ll be better than ever.”

Osamu smiles brightly, “I got ya Rin.” They both lean forward to press a soft, gentle kiss on each other’s lips.

“I got you too Osamu. For life.”

Suna stares at the sight in front of him.

“Kita-san,” Suna feels himself almost get teary at the sight of the cake, in the shape of an onigiri, he ordered behind Osamu’s back there. “How? How did you do this?”

Kita-san merely smiles, “Someone just owed me a few favors, is all.”

“Consider me as one of those, then.”

Kita just laughed, “Don’t worry ‘bout that. Consider this as my weddin’ gift. Now go, ya can’t leave Osamu waitin’.”

It started raining.

Of course it did. Good thing they were in a covered area, but it being open air, the wind started whipping through and around them, harassing the guests and the flowers.

But Suna couldn’t bring himself to care. Osamu was in front of him, holding his hand, smiling as if they weren’t getting married while lightning and thunder roared above their heads.

And when the minister finally announced that they could kiss, the cheers of their family and friends drowned out the sound of everything that didn’t matter.

Their photos must be really funny, with the dark clouds and rain as their background, but with them smiling and looking at each other in the foreground, as if nothing else mattered. And for that moment, nothing actually truly did.

“Did ya really order an onigiri cake?” Osamu eyes the cake they were supposed to slice together with wide eyes.

Suna laughs, his face somehow stuck in a perpetual smile. The indoor venue was muddy and some of their guests were wet, but the smile still persists.

“It’s not made of rice, idiot. It’s just a normal vanilla cake shaped and made to look like an onigiri.”

Osamu still eyes it as if he was expecting some fillings to pour out of it once it’s sliced.

Suna rolls his eyes playfully and grasps Osamu’s hand that was holding on to the knife, directing it to one side so they slice it and everyone can finally have a piece of cake.

And when they finally have their first dance, sliding on the dirty floor, the bottom of their pants gathering some of the mud, Suna whispers, “I just realized something.”

“Hmm?”

“We never really thought about where we’re going to live after this.”

Osamu laughs out loud, louder than the music playing, “I thought what we had goin’ on was fine. But whatever we decide on,” Osamu kisses his lips, “you will always be my home.”

“Damn you. Please get all of that sappiness from me.”

Osamu laughs and leans his forehead on his. “I love you.”

Suna rolls his eyes playfully, “You’re a sap, but I love you too.”

Osamu smiles sweetly, and Suna is dazzled only for a moment, before it is replaced once again by the sweetness of Osamu’s lips pressed onto his.
