Work Text:
Osamu approaches him, slowly getting even closer. This has been happening more frequently for the past months, but this was the first time that they were this close. Suna sees it coming, and he spends a split second wondering what he should do. Should he dodge? Block? Run away?
He doesn’t do any of that, however, as he stays put and grasps Osamu’s hand that was cupping his jaw and leans a millimeter closer, giving Osamu the signal that it was a go.
He wants this, he’s sure of that. Heat rises from his stomach to his chest at the closeness, his heart skipping a beat at the split second smile that Osamu gives him, before he closes the remaining gap between their lips.
Suna reigns in a gasp that he almost lets out when they make contact as Osamu’s lips are soft and the kiss was everything that is gentle and sweet. They remain still for a few seconds, just pressing their lips to each other’s, until Osamu tilts his head, and wraps his other arm around Suna’s neck, to press them closer.
Suna brings his arms down to wrap them around Osamu’s waist in response, parting his mouth to gently suck on Osamu’s lower lip, and the taste of his lips does something he can’t quite describe to his senses. He’s suddenly overwhelmed with nothing but Osamu. The scent of what makes him Osamu washes over him, along with the feel of his body being pressed to Suna’s nearly silenced all of his thoughts.
It is an awkward kiss, and Suna is aware of that. But it is their first kiss, and he can’t find anything to complain about. They part for a moment, leaning their foreheads on to each other’s, their breaths mingling between them as they say and do nothing, but stare into each other’s eyes.
Suna’s eyes flicker down to Osamu’s lips to see it glistening with his very own saliva, and sees Osamu’s eyes do the same. This time, the both of them lean towards each other with an added passion as they clumsily part their mouths to claim each other, hungry and intense, their tongues finally meeting each other, and for that moment, nothing else seems to exist other than each other. As if no one else existed, and there is no risk of Osamu’s parents walking in on them.
The moment the kiss ended was fragile. Their bodies were pressed so close to one another, and Suna is now leaning on the edge of the kitchen island, Osamu’s weight bearing deliciously on him, and he is well aware of the fragility of the moment, but somehow it doesn’t register in him that a few words can shatter it to pieces.
“So...are we dating?”
Osamu blinks in surprise at the question, and it takes a while, as Suna sees his eyebrows slowly try to meet in the middle, “What the hell d’ya think we’ve been doin’ for the past three months?”
Now it’s Suna’s turn to blink in surprise, “Three months?!”
Osamu’s eyes widens as he steps back from Suna in surprise, “Don’t tell me.” Osamu grips his head. “Don’t tell me I’m the only one who thought we were datin’?! Oh my fuckin’ god! This is so embarrassin’. What the hell Rin? Why would ya let me kiss ya if you din’t think we were datin’?”
Osamu starts pacing the length of the kitchen, as Suna is still frozen in his spot, where he is currently wishing that he kept his mouth shut. If he did, would Osamu kiss him again?
“Osamu,” Suna says, trying to get the man’s attention.
Osamu must not have heard him or is trying hard to ignore him. He just continues pacing, muttering, “No. no. I should ‘ave not assumed. Oh my god.”
“Osamu.”
“I thought ya knew!” Osamu stops to look at him, but then returns back to pacing, “Ya just kept acceptin’ my advances and we kept goin’ on dates-.” Osamu stops and his eyes widens as if he realized something, “Oh my god! That’s why ya keep callin’ them hang outs to ‘Tsumu!” He runs his hand through his hair, and Suna takes note of how soft it looks.
Next time they kiss- and there will be a next time, he’ll make sure of it -he wants to try running his hands through Osamu’s hair. He can almost imagine the softness of each strand of hair, but his daydreaming is cut short as the object of his daydream’s muttering gets louder.
“Oh my god. I thought ya were just teasin’ ‘Tsumu. I should ‘ave known!”
“Osamu.”
“I have to go.” Osamu pauses and declares all of a sudden, and Suna is just...confused.
Where the hell was he going? And does he realize that he can’t walk out of his own house leaving Suna here?
“It’s okay,” Osamu says directly to him. “We don’t have to talk about this. Ever.” Osamu starts walking towards the direction of the genkan. “Don’t worry, we can just forget about it.”
“Osamu!” Suna jogs a little to catch up to his apparent ‘boyfriend’. He was claiming it, who cares. He grabs Osamu’s hand stopping him and in his tracks, and for a moment, Suna thinks, wow I feel like I’m in a drama or something. Osamu turns around, glances at Suna’s hand on his, then back to Suna’s face, and opens his mouth to talk, but Suna stops him. “Please stop talking for one second and listen to me.”
Osamu’s eyes flicker across the room before focusing back on Suna. “Do I have to?”
Suna rolls his eyes, dramaticness really runs through their blood . “Yes, you have to.”
“Okay.” Suna leads him back further into the house and directs him to sit in the living room. He suppresses another roll of the eyes as he sees Osamu sit almost gingerly, looking uncomfortable. Ironic, considering this is his house, and that is his couch.
Suna breathes and lets out quickly, “I… I didn’t want to assume that we were flirting or dating or anything romantic was going on between us.”
Osamu focuses all his attention on Suna, his eyebrows doing that thing again, where they try their best to meet in the middle, “What.”
Suna shrugs, “Well, you didn’t say anything! And well, assumption leads to heartbreaks! We’ve seen this all the time in all the shows that we’ve watched together!”
“Imagine how I feel.” Osamu says sarcastically.
Suna waves his hand. “Exactly! So I just waited for you to say something first.”
Osamu stands up. “Okay. So basically, you didn’t want to assume we were ‘n a romantic relationship.” Suna nods. “While I chose to assume we were dating.”
“Yes.”
Osamu nods to himself, then scoffs. “I asked you out and you said yes!”
“When?!”
“Three months ago! I said, ‘Sunarin, do you want to go out to the movies this Saturday? Just the both of us?’” Osamu roleplays asking him, and it rings a tiny bell in Suna’s head as he remembers what happened. “And then you said, ‘Just the two of us? Sure.’”
“I thought you were saying that I shouldn’t tell anyone or else your brother might throw a fit!”
“That was also part of the reason,” Osamu mumbles, and Suna rolls his eyes. “But I was also asking you to go out on a date with me!”
“How was I supposed to know that?”
Osamu’s jaw dropped, and Suna senses that he was about to go on a rant, but he stops to let out a breath. “Never mind that. That’s in the past, so what I was trying to say was that those two equations cancel each other out.”
Suna glares playfully at him, “How dare you bring math into this.”
“You’re just mad because you suck at it.”
“How dare you.”
“So,” Osamu whispers, stepping closer, into Suna’s space. “Are we dating?”
Suna rolls his eyes at the repeated words, but laughingly says as he steps closer, the tips of their toes meeting, “Do you want us to date?”
“That’s honestly what I thought we’ve been doing this whole time, so duh ?”
“Sassy, but I would love to go out with you.” Suna presses a kiss on Osamu’s lips. “So when is our anniversary date?”
Osamu’s smile turned confused, “Isn’t it supposed to be today?”
Suna rolls his eyes playfully at that, “But I was in an unknown relationship for three months already. It would be a shame if those three months got wasted. Come on, I want to know our original anniversary date.”
Osamu rolls his eyes as he wraps his arms around Suna’s neck. Suna shivers at the easy skin contact between them and he can’t believe that he could have had this for three months already.
“How can it be the original anniversary date when you didn’t even know it existed?”
Suna pouts as he wraps his own arms around Osamu’s waist, gathering him even closer, “Just tell me when it was.”
“You don’t remember the date when we went out to the movies?”
“We always go to the movies.”
“The one where I actually gathered the courage to ask you out. The one where I told you that it would only be the two of us.”
“I still can’t believe that was a date. Sorry.”
Osamu smiles softly and Suna returns the smile subconsciously, the warmth that their bodies share making him feel homey and comfortable, as if he was wrapped in a blanket on a cold rainy day.
“It’s fine. It was still fun.”
Suna furrows his brows as he tries to remember that night. “Oh! Is that why you tried to kiss me that night? Or at least, looking back now, I assume that was you, trying to kiss me.”
“Yes,” Osamu answers shortly.
Suna laughs softly as he remembers what happened, “Oh, I thought you tripped or something.”
Osamu furrows his own brows in confusion, “How?!”
Suna just shrugs, the movement shifting Osamu’s arms around him. “I was in denial. At least, I know now when we’re going to celebrate our first anniversary.”
Suna sees the exact moment his words reached Osamu, as the soft smile that he was sporting slowly turned into a sappy smile, the smile that he refuses to believe that he wears when he was proud of his brother.
Osamu’s eyes are shining, and Suna just hopes that the same light is reflected in his own as he tries to convey the words that he knows are too early for him to say out loud. In the future, though, he’s sure he would have gathered enough courage to actually let the air carry the weight and meaning of those words.
“Yeah,” Osamu whispers as he leans closer. “I can’t wait for that.”
Bonus (before all of that fiasco):
Atsumu looks on in disgust as he sees his brother trying to feed Suna an egg roll from his own chopstick. He looks next to him to see Gin’s reactions at the shit that was happening right before their own eyes, when he remembers that Gin was in fact, not there.
Gin made a flimsy excuse that a teacher has asked him to meet with her during lunch break, and now Atsumu wishes so badly that he had gone with him.
He can see the light flush on Suna’s cheeks that was made obvious by the heavy sun rays from the window, and the bright subtle smile that his brother was sporting. This would have been considered a sweet scene, and Atsumu would not even hesitate to say that it was, if: one, this was not his brother and his best friend; and two if these were two people who are actually dating each other.
He asked Suna before, and he was adamant that they were not dating or flirting, but witnessing the very disgusting scene before him, he had to make sure.
Osamu excused himself, saying that he wanted to get a drink, and Atsumu took this as a chance to interrogate ½ of the reason why he was seriously debating just having his lunch alone.
“Sunarin.”
Suna doesn’t even bother looking up from his phone, just humming to tell Atsumu he was listening.
“My brother likes ya.”
Suna loses his grip on his phone for a second, and fumbles, trying to secure his hold on it once more. The light flush that has since disappeared, has come back and this time it seems it brought comrades as he sees Suna blush all the way to his neck.
Suna clears his throat, and say in an almost deadpan voice, if not for the slight waver at the start, “What the hell are you talking about Atsumu.”
“My brother likes ya.” Atsumu leans forward on the table observing Suna as he repeats his earlier words.
“He does not. He’s just being nice.” Suna merely says, and brings up his phone to cover his face, as if saying that the conversation was over.
Atsumu gapes at that, but before he can even try to grab Suna’s phone to make him listen, the bell rang, indicating the start of classes.
“Oh, yer here ‘ready,” Atsumu says as sees Gin already sitting on his chair when he gets back inside their classroom.
Gin rolls his eyes, “I never left the classroom.”
“What? Why din’t ya join us fer lunch then?”
Gin scoffs, “And see Osamu ‘nd Suna flirtin’ in front of me?”
Atsumu leans into Gin’s space, “Right?! It’s disgustin’! I told Suna that ‘Samu likes ‘im, and ya know what he told me?”
“What?”
“He does not, he’s just being nice.” Atsumu mocks Suna, even losing his Kansai-ben accent for a moment.
Gin merely scoffs as they both straighten in their seats when their teacher walks in.
Atsumu stops Osamu at the door of their clubroom.
Osamu looks at him unimpressed, “What.”
“‘Samu, I have to tell ya somethin’.”
Osamu merely raises an eyebrow in question, not for a second believing that whatever Atsumu was about to tell him was important.
Atsumu rolls his eyes, “Well, I just wanted to ask ya to just please confess to Sunarin.”
Osamu loses his deadpan expression for a moment, before it morphs into one of confusion. “What are ya talkin’ ‘bout, ya idiot. Rin ‘nd I are already datin’.”
Osamu must have decided he has had enough of the conversation, shuffling against Atsumu, before heading to the gym.
Atsumu on the other hand, just stands there. He just wants to scream, confused as fuck at the two conflicting things he’s been hearing.
Ya know what, starting from tomorrow, he was goin’ to just stay in their classroom and avoid the clusterfuck that was ‘Samu and Sunarin’s relationship.
