Yinu’s Day Out

Summary:

It’s hard being a nine year old while in charge of an entire district! Luckily, Yinu is up to the challenge, and with the help of her Mama, nothing can stop her! That is, until the Rock Revolution happens, and she thinks taking a nice nap would be fine. In the aftermath, she and Mama decide to have a nice day out, away from all of the NSR drama, except they keep bumping into all their coworkers. But don’t worry, Yinu is determined to have the most funnest day of her life!

Notes:

A nice slice of life featuring Yinu(who I think is too under appreciated when it comes to content of her) as well as interactions between the NSR bosses.
Also I wanted to give Yinu a Malay surname, except I learned Malaysians don’t have surnames, so I chose a name for her father and now that is her surname, to my understanding. I am not Malaysian so if anyone notices I did anything incorrectly PLEASE tell me, I am happy to fix any mistakes!

Chapter 1: The Letter

Chapter Text

Yinu remembered the day the letter was delivered to her house, sealed with a big label with the letters “NSR” on it. Mama and she had gone out to get the mail that day, and the look of excitement on her face had made its way to Yinu as well.
“Oh my goodness! Look what came in the mail today!” She said cheerfully as they made their way back to the house. “I can’t wait to open it and see what it says!”
“Mama, can we open it nowww?” Yinu urged eagerly.”
“Not yet, dear. Let’s wait until we can use my lucky letter opener. Here, I’ll carry you so we can go faster.” With this, Mama scooped Yinu up into her arms and grew a few feet, not so much that she’d trample passers by, and reached their little cottage near the heart of Natura much quicker.
“Here we are, my dear.” Mama said as she slowly shrank and set Yinu down on the ground, who was giggling.
“Heehee, that was fun, Mama!” Yinu chortled as she hopped around, waiting for Mama to unlock the door.
Mama only smiled calmly as she opened the door and swiftly put the rest of the mail on a table, taking out the special letter opener that her late husband got for her on one of their anniversaries. With a swift swipe, the letter was opened, and Mama read:
“Dear Yinu binte Bisaam,
It is with great pleasure to announce to you that you, with your excellent skill with the piano as well as ability to gift the Qwasa a great amount of power, have been selected to oversee the Natura District of Vinyl City.
You have shown that you are capable of managing such an important task, and it is my pleasure to invite you to our next meeting at the NSR Tower, on May 30th, as well as a welcome party hosted by Dream Fever’s Eve, on June 2nd.
It is wonderful to welcome you to our fantastic company, and we can’t wait for you to join us!
Sincerely,
Tatiana Qwartz”
Mama stood there with a gaping mouth, a surprised expression on her face the entire time, while Yinu was jumping up and down in extreme excitement.
“WEEEEEE! Mama! We did it! We did it! I got into NSR! We’re gonna be famous! We’re gonna get a pool, and a pony, and maids, and lots and lots of ice cream, and-“
“Slow down, my dear. This is all going very fast.” Mama went and collapsed on a chair, a look of astonishment on her face.
“What’s wrong, Mama?” Yinu climbed onto her lap as Mama’s arms wrapped around her. “Don’t you like it? We’re in NSR now! It’s so awesome!”
“Yes, yes, but…” Mama gazed into the distance. “I let you try out because I knew it meant so much to you, not just because you’re a prodigy. You deserve every prize you get, but this is… this is a lot. A whole district? While you’re only nine years old? It seems very irresponsible of the people in charge.”
“Don’t worry Mama. I bet I’m more res… respon… repsonsib…” She struggled with the words.
“Responsible?”
“Yeah, that. I’m more responsible than them, and you can help me, too, Mama! It’ll be really fun!”
Mama looked winded. “Well, I hope so…” She looked to the sky, a hopeful glint in her eyes. “I know you’d be proud, Bisaam…” she thought silently. “So proud of our little girl…”
