"Marinette," said a sickeningly sweet voice laced with fake concern, "I was just wondering... you've never been akumatized, have you?"
Quite honestly, Marinette wanted nothing more than to just smack her head on the desk rather than answer Lila's question. She had fought three different akumas the day before, resulting in her having to stay up all night to finish her homework, and then get ready to go to bed just to have her roof destroyed by another akuma, leaving her with zero sleep.
She was not in the mood to deal with Lila's bullshit.
Without facing the girl, she said bluntly, "No, Lila. I have not been akumatized."
She wasn't seeking a fight, she wasn't pointing out lies, and she wasn't doing anything to provoke Lila. All she wanted was sleep.
"Of course," said Alya happily from across the room, "Our girl's so positive, she'd never get akumatized."
"That's Marinette!"
"Always kind -"
"Marinette wouldn't get akumatized."
"Hawk Moth would probably be afraid of her or something -"
"Kim!"
"What? It's true!"
"... yeah, I guess."
"But you guys," Lila said, batting her eyelashes innocently, "I just think it's a bit... concerning. You know, since everyone else here has been akumatized?"
"Yeah, but this is Marinette," responded Nino a bit confusedly. Lila looked slightly frustrated. "I just... I don't want to accuse anything..."
"Just spit it out already," Marinette groaned, "You're going to accuse me of whatever it is anyway so just do it."
Lila gasped, placing a hand on her heart, "Marinette, how could you be so rude -"
"No. I haven't slept in, like, 2 days. So either let me get some rest or say whatever it is you're apparently so worried about right now. Let me guess, did I steal your necklace again? Go to your house and attack you? Destroy your sketchbook? Huh? What is it?"
Alya glanced between the two, "Maybe we should have this conversation another time.. I know that Marinette is tired right now -"
"It's just that Ladybug thinks that Marinette could be working for Hawk Moth!" Lila cried, turning around and beginning to sob fake tears, "And I told her that it couldn't be true, since even if Marinette is mean to me, she would never -"
"Hold up, since when was Marinette mean to you?" Alix asked, and Lila was too busy 'crying' to notice her suspicion.
"Sh-she just d-doesn't like me that much. And I don't know why! She's probably j-jealous over my relationship with Adrien -"
"Why would Marinette be jealous over something that doesn't exist?" Adrien got up, finally entering the conversation, narrowing his eyes at Lila. A few people gasped. "Marinette's a better friend than you'd ever be- heck, she's more likely to be Ladybug and to work with Hawk Moth."
"A-are you ac-ccusing me of l-lying?" Lila began sobbing again.
"Yup," Marinette drawled, "Besides, why would Ladybug think I'm Hawk Moth's accomplice if she gave me a miraculous once?"
Lila's eyes widened. Adrien glanced worriedly at her. Others gasped.
"Oh, yeah. If you're even Ladybug's best friend, were you ever given a miraculous?" Marinette was setting up her trap. She may be sleep-deprived, but she wasn't stupid. Lila craved attention and she would surely get it by claiming the wrong thing -
"She did! She gave me the fox miraculous! I'm Rena Rouge!"
Marinette watched Alya and Nino closely- shock, realization, and then anger.
"Oh, really?" Marinette continued as she noticed Nino trying to hold Alya back. "Well, then, do you have your miraculous?"
"Yes!" Lila exclaimed, clearly thinking that she had won. She pulled out her foxtail necklace that was her 'family heirloom' holding it up for the rest of the class. "This is the fox -"
Marinette could see know that more people were suspicious - Chloé, Kim, Max, Alix, Rose... the people who had miraculous. They knew that superheroes didn't keep them. Ladybug did.
"Uh huh, and can you transform in front of us?"
Lila faltered for a moment before blabbering, "No, you can't transform in front of others. It's part of the Miraculous magic!"
"Great, Lila, can you go to the bathroom, transform, and then come back?"
Lila was still digging herself deeper... "I-I can't believe you'd think I'm l-lying! I just gave away my secret and... and you're being such a hypocrite! I know that you were never given a miraculous -"
"Mouse miraculous, went by Multimouse, during the fight of Kwamibuster, accidentally revealed my identity to Chat Noir which is why I was put out. Transformation words are 'Get Squeaky' and detransformation is 'Get Quiet'. Power is 'Multitude', allowing me to transform into a bunch of mini-me's. Do I need to provide more proof?"
"Bu- Yo- That's not true! It's completely different -"
"Oh, yeah? What's the fox miraculous transformation and power?"
"I-I can't tell you! It's supposed to stay a secret -"
"Well, you had no problem revealing your identity in front of everyone else today."
"That's diff- you- ugh! You can't believe Marinette -"
"Lila, just stop lying," said Adrien calmly, looking at Marinette with newfound respect, though the bluenette's energy seemed to have run out as she slumped in her seat. "Everyone here now knows you are."
"Wh- no -"
"I can't believe you!" Alya growled, starting the attack of the rest of the class. Alix and Kim were both jumping at him, Ivan looked like he could be turned into another Stoneheart, and even Rose seemed visibly upset.
Marinette would wake up half an hour later, having forgotten about the entire incident.
Alya needed to explain it again, and she was pleasantly surprised.
