    It was a code they made, one of many.

    The most frequent one they used was ‘Facetime me once you’re back.’ And then there were other, more creative versions for it such as ‘I crave the cài cài fàn* you made that time’ or ‘Let’s put together that new Lego set when we meet. I promise this time it’s easy.’

    They always used more words than the three-word sentence they actually meant but they had their reasons.
