"JON! YOU WROTE ON THE COW??? HER POOR SOFT-"
"Relax Martin," Jon interrupted with a fond eyeroll. "It's designed to mark livestock. It isn't harmfull. You can ask the farmer yourself, now would you kindly read the actual words, please?"
Martin still looked sceptical, but he turned his attention back to the good cow and the words scribbled neatly on her side. He stared.
And stared.
And stared.
Jon was already beginning to grow concerned when he noticed the tears spilling from Martin's eyes, trailing silently down his sun-kissed cheeks.
"Martin!" he exclaimed, and was about to apologize for, well, something, when he was suddenly enveloped in the soft, strong arms he loved so much, being pulled close like a treasure and Martin released a sob into his shouldler that gave way to rambling words.
"Yes, yes, of course, of course I'll marry you, you ridiculous, wonderful man, I love you so much Jon, of course I'll marry you, of course I will--"
Jon managed to pull back enough to stop the flow of words with a soft press of his lips, which turned into an urgent but gentle kiss once Martin caught up with him.
When Martin pulled back, just far enough to rest their foreheads together, he looked at Jon like he was the most precious, spectacular thing in the whole world, and, with Martin looking at him like that, Jon was almost tempted to believe him.
"I love you," Jon whispered in this sacred space where their breaths mingled. "I want to spend every day for the rest of my life showing you how much you mean to me. How grateful I am to have you in my life."
Martin blinked and another lone tear fell down his cheek. "I love you, too," he said ever so softly. "I want the whole world to know exactly how lucky I am."
They hugged for a long time after that, simply reveling in the fresh air, the late summer heat and the feeling of the other.
When they finally settled enough to part, Martin took one look at the cow beside them and burst out laughing.
"What?" Jon asked, amused.
Martin looked at him with a joyous grin. "You know we're definitely buying this cow, right?"
