If Stede is there, Stede does the bedtime story. Hell, even when he’s not, sometimes he ends up FaceTiming while bleary-eyed in bed or in line at the grocery store because Louis started a fight Mary and Doug were too tired to win.
Tonight, Stede is…technically here, in that he’s in the same house, but he’s also been rocking a stubborn fever for the past three days and nearly passed out trying to take a hot shower earlier, so despite the protests of both father and son, Ed is the backup.

When Stede's promise of a snowstorm in the Caribbean (shockingly) falls through, he's desperate to make it up to the crew. But throwing a party with no decorations, not to mention a creeping sense that it's not really about the party at all, might be harder than controlling the weather—at least, until he gets a little help from his friends.

“Mnf?” she asks, instinctively looping her arms around Stede’s neck even before she’s processed it’s him—though who else could it be, really, with arms strong enough to lift her like a child but hands gentle as anything as he brushes her thigh, urging it more firmly around his waist.

Ed has seen hundreds of people fall to the warmth of his mother’s embrace by now—shy teens with newly-purchased flags around their necks like a cape, obviously, but also kinksters and furries and middle-aged lesbian couples and totally unassuming men who are probably at least ten years her senior.
Ed hasn’t seen much of his mom in the last fifteen minutes, though, because he’s been sort of kind of following a random guy through the Gayborhood Market.

Summary
Stede’s first pitch, when he broached the subject, was that he would be a fearsome pirate captain and Ed a fiery tavern wench. Which, like— it’s not that Ed wasn’t up for it, he totally was, but maybe he did make a teasing comment that made Stede start worrying about looking like a misogynist, and he’s already tying himself up in some guilt-ridden existential crisis long before Ed can find a big enough gap in the conversation to point out that maybe there is not an unproblematic way to do a fucking ravishment fantasy.

Stede's newly out and learning to explore his desires, so naturally he jumps feet first into a kink forum, where he finds TieMeUp69 asking for a stranger to fulfill a very specific fantasy: he'll be bound to his bed, and he wants someone he's never met to break into his house and have their way with him.
Stede volunteers, and then panics a little... and then spends half their time together theatre-workshopping his character motivation. It's everything Ed ever wanted, and everything he never knew he wanted, too. They're bound together from the start ❤️

Ed and Stede have been best friends for years, and now own and run a cruise ship together, Jeff's Inn on the Sea. Everything's great! Except Ed has been pining for his best friend for years, and is sick to death of getting hit on by passengers. After a particularly trying day, he brings it up to Stede, and they hatch a brilliant (incredibly stupid) plot: they'll pretend they're dating, so everyone will think they're off limits. It'll be great!
