Work Text:

Sitting on the rooftop of her house, Y/n watched the sunset. The weather was nice with the gentle breeze and the colors of the sunset, yellow and orange. Two colors that reminded her of a person, two colors that hurt. Yellow much like the color of his hair, orange like the stripes of his superhero costume. Yellow and orange like the explosions.

Sitting on the rooftop, only dressed in an oversized black shirt, with a framed picture in her left hand and another unframed picture in her right hand, Y/n watched the sunset thinking about Katsuki.

Katsuki had left a week ago, not from her side, but from the world. Japan's #2 hero had fallen in battle. His life for the safety of hundreds of civilians, his life for the lives of his fellow heroes. Bakugo Katsuki saved an entire city from imminent destruction.

Y/n already knew that Katsuki was a hero, not just as a job, he was a hero at heart. So yes, she always knew that every day on patrol carried a risk, she knew that Katsuki could be injured and even, that he could die. And although she knew the possibilities of such an outcome, she was never prepared. No one can be fully prepared for death.

Kats, as she liked to call him, had his whole life ahead of him. He never became the #1 hero, but Y/n had no doubt that he was going to make it any day now.

When Katsuki proposed it was like this, in front of a sunset on the rooftop of the apartment complex. It was nothing extravagant, but it was certainly special. Simple, was a word that as a couple they shared. Simple and the best always. So, when Katsuki proposed the plan to sit on the rooftop and watch the sunset while sharing gossip, Y/n didn't suspect anything.

"I don't think I told you yet. A person from the Bakusquad is planning to get married" he muttered " So you finally admit that's what they're called" she muttered in a mocking tone.

"Tsk, they insist on calling themselves that" Katsuki shrugged her shoulders
"I bet it's Kiri, he looks so in love with Mina" Y/n said letting out a giggle.
"No, it's not Eijiro, he still doesn't have enough guts to kneel down" he said with an air of superiority

"It's not necessary to kneel to propose marriage, it's just a cultural practice" Y/n looked at the colors in the sky "What's special is in the intention. One person asking another to spend the rest of their life together because they love each other, that's the point, no matter how you ask"

Y/n glanced sideways at Katsuki. A thoughtful countenance adorned her face. They remained silent for a few minutes before Y/n broke it.

"You still didn't tell me who's planning to get married."
"Me" Y/n inhaled sharply and looked at him in surprise. Katsuki stood up and stood in front of her. From the inside pocket of his jacket, he took out a little emerald green box. "I want to marry you, because I love you and I want to share the rest of my days by your side" He scratched the back of his neck as a sign of nervousness "That is if you want, of course".

Y/n was at a loss for words. There in front of her was the love of her life, lit up with the colors of the sunset, wanting to spend the rest of her days with her. Did she ever imagine being married to Kats? Of course she had. Together in a house, waking up together, having dinner together, adopting a pet together, going shopping together, it all sounded so perfect, domestic and unbelievable.

Bakugo snapped his fingers in front of Y/n "Oi! answer me" Y/n blinked, she had been lost in her thoughts and never answered. Bakugo looked so nervous and fidgety that it caused Y/n to laugh
"Of course I do Kats!" she shouted before jumping towards him and wrapping her arms around his neck. She wrapped her legs around the body of her boyfriend, now fiancé, and hugged him tightly.

With the little box still in his hand, Bakugo hugged her tightly "I thought you were going to say no."
"Mmmm, I would never say no to you. I love you" She left a kiss on his neck
"I love you" Bakugo murmured.

The sunset was the signature of their relationship. Bakugo asked her on a date when it was dusk, Y/n kissed him for the first time in front of a sunset, they made love for the first time when it was dusk, on the rooftop... And in front of the sunset on a beach, they got married.

Today Y/n was sitting watching the sunset, with Katsuki's favorite shirt on (she kept his scent). In her left hand, besides her beautiful wedding ring, she held her favorite picture. Them in their wedding party smiling broadly after a few drinks.

Dazz, her faithful doggy companion, was lying next to her. He too feels Katsuki's absence. Y/n clenched her right hand tightly where the image she never got to show her husband was. It was a printed ultrasound, the first image of their son and Katsuki wasn't there to see it. He was never going to see it.

Those thoughts wandered endlessly through Y/n's head, she was going to be a mom, she was going to have Kats' child, but she was going to raise it without him. Y/n found herself watching the sunset as she sobbed. Tears for what was and what could have been.

Y/n lifted the ultrasound to show it at sunset. The setting sun was always the time they spent together, this was the time to cherish their future child together.
Although Katsuki is not physically present, she knows he is there with her watching the sun go down.
