Chapter Text
Mono and Six looked to one another, this has happened before, her coat stained with something red, his hands were covered in callouses and ash. They know things will not last forever, it never does in a world like this, but they finally made it...They were free! The nightmare was over!
Something emerges form Six's shadow and sighs "Well... it's over..."
"What happens to us now?"
"Everything will... Reset I guess, a new beginning and all that" They say, their voice sounds tired and.... sad
"but- what'll happen to us?" Mono asks, fear and distress ringing clear as day, his grip on his friends hand grew tighter. They were finally free of this nightmare and now everything was going to just disappear like that!? No! it wasn't fair!
"I can't exactly say for sure" Shadow laments, they weren't exactly keen on the idea either. They look to what remains of the tower as a bema of light starts to shoot towards the sky. "we don't have much time left...Just in case... It was good being with you guys" They wipe a stray tear from their eyes. "Maybe you'll get lucky and see each other again" The look down to their hand as it starts to dissolve.
"Shadow..." Mono's voice barely a whisper, voice cracking and seconds away from sobbing. Before he could say something Six had pulled him and Shadow into a hug, holding both of them for dear life as the usually quiet girl who feared little to nothing broke down and cried. Mono held both of them close, he didn't want this. Anything but this to happen to them.
Shadow was quiet while the two cried they see the light growing brighter and getting closer to them, they looked and more of their body was starting to dissolve like sand blowing in the wind. "I'm... gonna sit in your shadow ok?" they sound ever so tired. Like they couldn't stay awake for much longer Shadow hugs them both one last time before disappearing.
Mono wipes away his friends tears his jacket "Hey... It'll be ok Six, we'll find each other again"
Six sniffled "Promise?" Her voice was so meek compared to her usual bravado.
"Yea" He puts a hand on his chest and the other on hers "Even if we're far away, or forget who we were... We'll find each other again" He rests his forehead on hers.
Six couldn't help the small giggle and put her hand over the one resting on his chest. "Good..." Despite how scared she felt, it was comforting to have Mono still here.
The light drew closer to them, it would envelop them soon.
"And we'll the others again...Right?" Six asks, thinking back to the others who lost their lives in the process of getting them here.
"Of course we will Six" Mono says with a smile.
Rainecoat girl, a planner and quick on her feet, she was lost when monsters went after her, driving her to the cliffs, but she didn't go down in a whimper. She took as many down with her in a furious roar before falling to the depths below, and any stragglers were brought down to the murky water never to be seen again. The runaway boy, who had some kind of connection with nomes fought as hard as he could but in the end the poor child was hunted like a wild animal for game to the feral shadows. The nomes made it back to them but the only thing left that was retrieved was a broken shackle.
Others have fallen with them, until Six, her shadow and Mono remained. Mono used to have a shadow by the name of Shroud, but he was gone now, sacrificing his own life against the other creatures, taking on the form of a large monster, his humanity gone the second he made that choice, some semblance of him remained long enough to beg to be put out of his misery. (It hurt shadow the most when they had to end someone so dear to them. He wasn't upset though, he faded away with a smile on his face.
Six looked up at mono and kissed his forehead, Mono in turn blushed before doing the same, the two hugged each other close as the light enveloped them both.

There was a loud sound blaring in someone ears. A hand slipped out from under a blanket and fumbled around to find the alarm, eventually knocking the thing off the nightstand
"Five more minutes" The voice groaned before slowly emerging from their blanket cocoon. A Young man in his early teens stretched as he gets up, mouth dry and feeling like he stuffed it full of cotton. "Must've fallen asleep with my mouth open" he grumbles as he gets to his feet, slipping on his orange slippers with little fox tails on the heel, he doesn't remember where he got them but they looked cool and it was his money. He steps over his large black dog who slept soundly "Morning Shroud" The young man yawns as he goes into the usual routine, shower, muss with hair, have breakfast and take Shroud on his morning walk. Once done showering, then brushing his teeth he mussed around with his hair he looked at his reflection and thought back to his dream.
He remembers seeing himself much smaller, little nicks and scars on his hands from what he would do in these dreams, and there was always a little girl in a yellow raincoat beside him. He would frown when he thinks of her, she feels so familiar and yet isn't at the same time. "That dream keeps happening.... What could it mean?" He hears barking and a heads for the front door "Ok ok Shroud I'm coming" Guess he was grabbing something out to eat today with that dogs level of patience.
Once the big black dog was harnessed and he puts on his oversized jacket and one of his favored hats. (He can't remember what possessed him to collecting hats but he liked them, today he was wearing the really fancy one, he thinks its a fedora or a trilby had but eh) he opens the door and Shroud was quick to move "Jeez big guy you'll take my arm off one of these days" He stopped at a breakfast place really fast, getting himself a sandwich and some hot cocoa. He also got some extra bacon for his dog otherwise he would be given the eyes. "Shroud you don't need to give me the look, here you big oaf" He hands the dog the bacon and they continue on their way. But something was gnawing on the back of his head when he thinks back to his dreams. It felt so vivid sometimes and was so real, even remembering eon of the conversations they had.

A young girl was being pestered by her cat to wake up "Shadow cut it oooouuuuutttttt" The girl groans and that makes the cat meow at her in defiance, a paw patting at her face till she relents. "Fiiiine" She grumbles as she gets up to stretch. "Be glad you're precious you little furball" She huffs and pets the cat while getting ready to start the day, She went through a routine similar to the young boy oddly enough, her cat was an outdoor cat who followed her places, the cat lived up to their name. She brushes her hair and puts on her yellow hoodie, yellow had always been one of her favorite colors, no rain today but it was a little chilly so her hoodie was just fine. Shadow hops onto her shoulder and the two of them were out the door. While walking Six was thinking back to her dream, it's happened again where she wore a little yellow raincoat, marks on her hands from when she would bite her own hand due to anxieties that felt all too real to her, made her look to a faint scarring on her arm when she had been overwhelmed one night in her dreams. Shadow looked at Six and bumped their head to hers as a distraction. "I'm ok shadow don't worry" She pets the cat and they keep walking, she thinks of the dreams again, about the boy with the paper bag... Or did he wear some fancy hat.... Or some raccoon cap? She can't remember but a paper bag was what she remembers most. She put a hand on her chest when she thinks back to a conversation in her dream.

"Hey ***?" The boy would ask
"Hm? What is it ****?" The girl responds, curiosity in her eyes.
"If we..... If we make it out of here, do you think we can stick together?" He sheepishly asks, hands wringing together and fidgeting on the spot.
The girl looks at him and snickers "Oh **** Of course we'll be together, we'll always be together" she holds his hand.
He looks down at her hand and smiles "Thank you ***"

"Hey Siiiix!" A voice snaps her from her thoughts and look in the direction of the voice.

"Heyo Mono!" A voice calls and Mono looks to see who it is.

"Oh, hey Sev" six responds when her friend shows up, she can't put her finger on it but she feels she's known Sev from before they met, he always had a knack for caring for animals, he even has a white bunny he carries in his hood called nome "What brings you out here today?"
"There was this cool girl I met and wanted to introduce her to you, Nome really likes her" He replies as he pets the white bunnies' head.
"Awww Does sevvy have a crush?" She teases, taking enjoyment when he sputters and flails his arms before hiding his blushing face.
"Come on Six don't be like that" He groaned.
She snickers before agreeing to tag along to meet this friend of his.

"Hey Raine how goes things?" Mono asks, Raine was a good friend but sometimes when she wears her yellow jacket he thinks of someone else, her spirit has always made him think of her when she gets into a scrap how she wouldn't take things laying down.
"Hey shroud how is the big handsome boy?" She showers the dog with affection and baby talk and he just loves every second of it, tail wagging and barking away.
Mono gasps putting a hand over his heart as if he had been stricken. "raine how could you, I thought we had something!"
Raine stuck her tongue out and stands straight "I met someone the other day and he has a cute little white rabbit"
"Careful he doesn't whisk you away to wonderland" mono snickers in amusement.
"Ha ha laugh it up" She huffs "I was gonna meet up with him in a couple minutes but you should tag along I think you'll like him"
Mono taps his chin in thought, Raine has been his only friend for some time, he didn't seem too interested in meeting many people, or was it more he didn't feel a connection with them?... "Sure, it'd be nice to meet the guy who can make the mighty Raine go awww" He laughs when Raine playfully punched his arm.

Sev and Six were waiting at a pet park his dad owns, he had it reserved so Shadow and Nome could run around without worry of some strangers dogs chasing after their companions.
"So tell me more about this girl you were swooning over"
"Siiiixxxx cut it out" Sev groans and pulled his hood over his face. He hears his friend cackle like a witch before he pulled her hood over her face.
"Hey!" She fumbles around to pull her hood off.
"Serve you right" Sev replies with a chuckle, puffing his chest as if it could make him somehow intimidating.
Six rolls her eyes "Anyways, tell me about this girl"
"Raine? Oh she's really sweet, she helped me out when you were sick the other day and bullies were harassing me"

"So tell me about this guy and if I need to give the 'you hurt her and I hurt you' talk" They were heading for where Raine said Sev was going to meet up with her, Mono had ot keep a tight grip on Shrouds harness, he seemed to be getting abit more antsy, like when he has a case of zoomies after a rainy day or he gets a bath.
"Mono you sound like an older brother" She huffed
"Hey, you're my friend and I look out for my friend, when did you meet him anyway?"
"When you got detention-"
"Hey those kids were asking for it!" Mono says irately, in his defense when the kids were picking on the poor girl who had a bloody nose he didn't take that sitting down, when one of thme had a pocket knife he used whatever was on hand and it happened to be a lead pipe.
"ANYWAY, I saw him getting picked on by the bullies and went to help him, he's a real sweetheart"
"A sweetheart huh? Will I have to worry about losing my best friend?"
"Nah once you get to know him you'll say he's awesome too"
Mono rolls his eyes but chuckles at her enthusiasm. As they near the pack Raine goes up to it and waves, he sees a boy coming over to the gate.

"Oh there she is!" Sev gets up and runs over. "Hey Raine"
"hi Sev, this is Mono, is it ok if he can come in with me?"
Sev looks at Mono for a moment then to his dog. "Is your dog good with other pets? My rabbit and my friends cat are running around and I don't want them getting hurt"
Mono raised an eyebrow "Shroud? Don't worry he's been raised around other animals and wouldn't hurt a fly" He pets the dogs head when Shroud sits, and for added measure lifts his paws to sit pretty.
"Well he's certainly a charmer" Sev snickers and unlocks the gate "Come on in"
Once inside Mono unhooks Shrouds lead and the dog starts running around the field. "So, I'm Mono, nice to meet the person who captured Raines heart" He teases as he held his hand out, amused when Sev covers his blushing face and Raine punched his shoulder again.
"Sev" The other boy grumbles before shaking Monos hand. Both boy's looked at one another bewildered, like there was some air of familiarity once they made contact. "Nice to meet you too Mono..."
"Uh.. Sev you said your other friend was here yea?" Raine says, the tension getting thick and wanting to do something about it before you could cut it with a knife.
"Oh! Yea my friend Six is here" Sev let's go of Monos hand "She's over by the bench I'll introduce you"
Raine and Sev went off first, Mono still feeling confused before following after them.

Six was watching Shadow and Nome play before a big dog came into the picture "Who the-"
"Six!"
Her attention goes to Sev and the new girl, there was someone else but she can't see them yet.
"Hey I'm Raine" She waves a hand.
"So you're Raine huh? Sev you know how to pick'em" She snickers
Raines face goes a little red before six holds a hand out.
"A friend of Sev is a friend of mine" Six says in a cheery tone. Like with Mono and Sec once Raine makes contact both girls are just... confused at the feeling, like knowing one another already but they can't exactly figure out where or when.
"Heeeey!" Six snaps from the confusion, clouded by a new one at the new voice, she looks around for the source because it sounds so god damn familiar but she doesn't know where from!
"Sorry Mono" Raine laughs awkwardly.
"so who is....." Monos was at a loss for words when he sees the new girl, a sharp pang in his chest at the sight of her. From the way he sees her grip at her coat over her heart she must feel the same.
"Uhm...."
Sev and Raine looked between the two, Sev whispers something "Well, we're gonna keep an eye on the pets so, Six"
"Mono"
"You two get to know one another" The two say at the same time before leaving Six and Mono alone.
Both of them didn't say anything they just, stared at one another, their eyes moving over the others facial features as if they were looking for something.
"I'm... Mono" He manages to utter.
"Six..." Her voice barely a whisper. "do I...."
"Know you?" They both say at the same time.
"I know it sounds-" Mono starts
"Weird yea but I just keep-" Six continues
"Having these strange dreams and-"
"I think.... I see you in them" They both utter
Mono hears barking and sees Shroud running around "Sorry he's kinda a big goofball, he seems to like the cat though"
"THat's shadow, they're usually not friendly with others besides Nome... but I guess your dog seems to be ok in their book"
"Should we go see the others?" mono holds his hand out to her.
She looks at it for a second before taking it, and everything felt... Right, like another piece of them had been missing that they never knew about, two halves making one whole again. They smiled, old dreams... or were they memories? They were clearer now between them.
"I knew it...." Mono mumbles
"You found me..." six whispers.
"We found each other" He pulls six into a hug, there would be a time for tears, but that's for later, right now they just wanted to enjoy the others presence, something they missed had been finally found.
"Still the same goob I know" She chuckled, face pressed against his chest.
"Didn't I call you Chomper once?" Mono inquires.
"That was when I had teeth like a shark"
"You probably still chew on things" He notes with seeing the shorter end of the string on her hoodie looked like it was chewed off.
"Sh-shut up" She stammers, face going red.
He snickers before giving her a peck on her forehead "come on, Sev and Raine are waiting for us"
"Fine, but I'm not letting fo you your hand" She says, voice still muffled by his chest.
"That's fair" He agrees, the two of them going off hand in hand to meet up with their old friends.
