Work Text:

you woke up to the loud ringing of your handphone, the ringtone you know belongs to a call from your father. hurriedly you grabbed the phone from your nightstand and pressed the green button, somehow anxious upon grasping the situation. did something happen at home?

"good morning, sunshine!" your father greeted cheerfully and you sighed in relief. no bad news, so what was the reason to call you so early on a Sunday morning?

"are you free today?" your father asked, causing your brows to furrow. since it's a Sunday, there are no classes today but you planned to have some training by the afternoon with the others. realization dawns upon you when you heard a monotone voice in the background, that belongs to an announcer for trains.

"are you on your way to Tokyo?" calmly you asked, slowly sitting up on the bed. you glanced at the clock in your room, it was barely eight in the morning. you remembered that the first train from Iwate to Tokyo departed at half-past eight and this only confirmed your previous question.

on the other side of the phone, your father chuckled. "your mother took a rest from work for the following two days, so we thought why not visit you?"

you facepalmed yourself. of course, you're happy to have them visit you all the way to Tokyo, but it would've been better if they gave you prior notice. now you'd feel bad to skip practice with the others, but there's no helping in that.

"when will you arrive?" you asked, already standing up and checking your drawer in search of clothes.

"probably around twelve o'clock. ah, your mother wants to talk to you," you heard the sound of the phone being handed to another person and immediately distances the device from your ear.

"my daughter! I miss you so much! we'll play around in Tokyo so dress up a bit, okay?" your mother beamed loudly and you chuckled. the irritation is all long gone, now you feel excited to meet them. enrolling in Jujutsu Tech separated you from home for the first time in your life, not to mention it's so far away. you smiled,

"okay. is Yato coming along too?" you shifted from one leg to another, scanning through your pile of clothes. most of them were new, obviously the result of your shopping spree with Nobara.

"of course. he's busy with his headphones, though." your mother replied, and you heard her calling your little brother's name but no response was heard. you shook your head, the image of Yato busy in his own world on the train is so apparent.

"I'll see you later, then. safe trip, mom."

as the phone call ended, you immediately went to shower. there is enough time to get ready, but you have to inform the others and ask for permission from the school as well. from what you've noticed, no one ever really got visited by their family in the school ground.

Panda-senpai can visit Yaga-san whenever he pleases, while Inumaki-senpai paid them a visit during holiday sometimes, but not for long. after learning about Maki-senpai's condition, you understood why she was mostly at the dorm.

as for Yuuji, he openly told you that he doesn't know much about his parents and grew up with his late grandfather. Nobara grew up with her grandmother, but she hated her hometown and would never return for the time being. then, about Megumi..

you were thrown out of your trance when the door to Megumi's room opened abruptly, causing you to freeze in the spot. the owner emerged from the room while carrying a paper bag in his right hand and raised an eyebrow upon noticing you standing in the middle of the hallway.

"you scared me," you sighed, placing a hand over your left chest. to that, Megumi chuckled as it reminded him of what happened around two months ago on the same occasion.

"it's still early in the morning, what are you so tense about?" he closed the door behind him, now standing face to face with you. you glanced at the paper bag in his hand before answering.

"I can't come to the practice this afternoon, my family is coming over," you answered with a smile, tone careful.

after things became official, slowly but surely the both of you started to open up to each other. you began telling him about your likes and dislikes, about your childhood, and life before Jujutsu Tech. most of the time Megumi listened and you were comfortable with that, and it was only recently he revealed about his past and it surprised you. it took a lot of courage for him to tell you about it, and ever since then, you were always cautious to bring up the said topic.

"all the way from Iwate? why so sudden?" he asked, clearly as confused as you. you shook your head, sighing. "yeah, my father suddenly called this morning. I've asked for permission from the school and were about to tell you guys,"

Megumi didn't answer. he stayed silent for a while, and after getting to know him better you noticed that he was thinking deeply whenever he plays that expression upon his face. his sudden question made you wonder if you heard him right.

"can I come along?"

you blinked twice, not believing what you just heard. Megumi caught your expression and thought that he asked the wrong question. family time is rare and who is he, a stranger to intrude? well, technically he's not a stranger, but still, his new status doesn't justify that-

"sure! I would love to,"

Megumi felt his heart stopped beating for a second when you smiled widely, an expression so bright and your eyes literally twinkling. he doesn't understand how could you look so beautiful all the time. Megumi smiled, only then realizing the hotness creeping onto his face.

"when will they arrive?" he asked and you noticed he's much more relaxed now, though he still has all his attention upon you.

"at noon, but we are going to meet them at the station. I don't want them to come here," you chuckled nervously. if your school was a normal one, it won't be a problem. you don't want to involve your family in this community at all, it would be too dangerous for them.

"okay then, I'll see you later." Megumi resolved, right hand reaching out to pat your head. the gesture caused you to blush furiously, earning a smirk from your boyfriend. he started doing this sometime after the date in yomiuriland, simply saying you looked tiny compared to him and therefore making you adorable. when those words left his mouth, you couldn't believe it was Fushiguro Megumi talking. where was the stiff and sometimes awkward Megumi?

nevertheless, the changes made you happy. it meant that he's comfortable enough to show himself, and you hoped the two of you will continue to grow together.

as you picked your clothes from the drawer, you realized that if Megumi comes along he would need to ask for permission as well. a nervous chuckle left your mouth as you imagined the principal's response to this, but guess that would be a problem for later. as for the others, you prayed they won't mind two missing personals.

after you were done dressing up, you left your room to the recreation room. you thought Megumi was still in his room, that it surprised you when you saw him lounging there with Yuuji. Megumi wore a simple white shirt that was tucked neatly into his black dress pants, accompanied by a familiar set of white sneakers.

you chuckled upon seeing him, not expecting him to also dress up.

"you look beautiful!" Yuuji beamed when he saw you standing by the doorway. Megumi turned to face you and a faint smile played upon his lips.

"thanks, Yuuji. I'm sorry we can't join the practice," you said to which he responded by shaking his head.

"don't sweat it. tell your family Kugisaki and I said hi!" he requested for Nobara as well since the latter is still in her beauty sleep that demands no intrusion until the goddess herself wakes up. no one dares disturb her.

after bidding goodbye to Yuuji, the two of you left the dorm. since this was a personal business and also a day-off, you and Megumi took a taxi to the city. on your way there, you complimented his choice of clothing this day, and to that Megumi groaned.

"this is one of the many clothes Gojo-sensei bought for me," he muttered. you laughed at that, already hearing the story multiple times. after the date in yomiuriland, turns out there was a secret group chat of the others excluding the two of you.

Nobara told you this later that night, saying you better be thankful because she was the one who told Gojo-sensei about the date and asked the teacher to help Megumi. Gojo aided the clothes Megumi wore that day, a fact he himself told you. what Megumi didn't expect was another pile of paper bags in his room that day, with a simple note from Gojo-sensei congratulating him.

most of them were monochromic of course since Megumi doesn't really like to wear other colors. because of this, he got teased a lot and even gained the nickname 'punk'. he didn't understand where did it come from, but after you let him listen to the original song realization dawns upon him. not because he finally gets the joke (some part of it, yes) but turns out he liked the song.

it was a secret between the two of you: Megumi started to listen to Avril Lavigne's discography after that.

"you look nice too, as always." he diverted the topic and you rolled your eyes.

"you're changing the topic."

"I am, but you do look nice." he stated, and you leaned on his shoulder to hid the blush on your face. Megumi adjusted his position in the backseat to make you comfortable and for the rest of the ride, the two of you talked about anything and everything.

with Megumi, time seemed to flow so fast. it's comfortable to be around him, be it the two talking or in silence, simply enjoying each other's company. you treasure every moment you shared together, feeling happier than ever.

by the time the two of you arrived at the station, it was precisely twelve o'clock. Megumi led you through the crowd, his hand tightly holding on to yours. Megumi would never admit it out loud, but he finds comfort in physical touch. he doesn't do well with words, often finding himself squeezing your hand tighter, patting your head, or leaning on your shoulder whenever it's just the two of you around. he is private about his relationship and you respected that.

"there they are," you told him after spotting your little brother's tall figure in the middle of the crowd and waved. Megumi followed close behind you as the two parties approached each other, the surprise visible upon your parent's features. you didn't tell them Megumi was coming along, thinking this would be a good surprise.

your mother immediately engulfs you in her big hug, you returning the gesture just as warmly. she pinches your cheeks and started speaking in baby noises.

"look at you, all grown up already. my baby girl is so beautiful," she mushed your cheeks together and you had to immediately stop her before the scene continues. you coughed and gestured to Megumi.

"Mom, Dad, Yato," you glared at your little brother who looked uninterested, he was busy scanning the crowd around him. "this is Fushiguro Megumi."

Megumi bowed, feeling his heartbeat quickens way more than when he's exorcising curses. he tried to hide the nervousness during the journey, and it only skyrockets once he met your parents. when he stood up, your parents were looking at him in a way he couldn't describe but it instantly calms him.

"ah, Fushiguro-kun! my daughter has told us a lot about you. you're really as dashing as the pictures, huh?" your father greeted warmly, while your mother nodded along. "let's leave this station first," she announced. Megumi stood in silence as the couple walked forward, and you tugged at his hand. you pointed at your little brother, who was offering his hand out to him.

"I'm her little brother, Yato. nice to meet you, Fushiguro-san." the younger introduced himself politely, which kinda surprises Megumi. but he remembered you say that Yato's look made him look somehow intimidating for strangers. it didn't help either that he stood tall at 180 cm at the young age of fourteen, even taller than Megumi himself.

Megumi shook his hand, "nice to meet you too."

as the five of you walk away from the station, Megumi felt relieved. you have told him stories about your life, and Megumi loved it when you talk about your family.

he wondered how your father would be like in person after you told him that in your household, there is no housewife. your mother works at an interior design company and provides for the family, while your father took care of the house. after seeing the man, Megumi can see where you got your kindness from; your father had the same aura.

he also wondered if your mother would be as loud as to how you described her and it turns out to be true. Megumi doesn't mind, though. you called her your best friend, someone you can always depend on and trust, at the same time knows how to have fun. a prankster, that's what you called your mother.

while for Yato, Megumi doesn't know what to expect. you kept stating that the little brother is as loud as your mother but can be mature at times. Megumi guessed that the younger was a combination of your parents, although he knew you were also a prankster at heart. it was well-hidden underneath.

Megumi doesn't talk much as the five of you get inside the car your parents rented for the day. he sat to your right in the backseat, you positioned in the middle of him and Yato. he was starting to get anxious because he doesn't know what to say, and through his observation, he noticed that most adults saw the gesture as something impolite.

you surprised him by taking his left hand in yours and squeezing them reassuringly. even though you weren't looking at him, Megumi felt better in an instant, glad to know that you understood him so well.

"Fushiguro-san, what do you like about my sister?" Yato breaks the ice with a sudden question that caused Megumi to choke on his own spit, while you groaned and slap the younger's thigh. your mother laughed from the front seat and Megumi wanted the earth to swallow him whole.

"now, now, where's your manner, Yato?" your father spoke in a teasing tone, "we're sorry for him, Fushiguro-kun. he is just as straightforward as his mother."

Megumi was astounded at how your father handled the situation, slowly feeling less tense. "ah, it's okay," he spoke.

"that should be a question saved for later. for now, how's school?"

from the rear mirror, he could see your father glancing at him, his gaze so friendly. Megumi gulped before engaging in the conversation, the whole time you casually glance at him a few times here and there. in just five minutes Megumi finds himself at ease and participates in the topic naturally as if he was part of the family in the first place.

when the car stopped in front of a fancy restaurant twenty minutes later, you felt relieved to see Megumi smiling. he was now talking with your father about a book, a similar hobby of theirs you didn't mention in the first place. knowing the both of them well, it would be better to let them discover it themselves.

"he is really as gorgeous as in the pictures," your mother whispered to you, picking a secluded table in the corner. you chuckled, "yeah,"

on the round table, you sat next to Megumi. even when all of you were already seated, he and your father were busy talking about the book that it had your mother cutting them.

"stop with the book, I want to know Fushiguro-kun better too," she slapped your father's arm playfully, and he apologized.

"it's rare to find someone who reads the same books as me, so I can't help it." was his reason. your mother rolled her eyes, before turning to Megumi. she took the turn to ask him things like his other hobbies and favorite foods. your mother high-fived him when she found out Megumi likes anything that goes well with ginger and dislikes red bell peppers.

"I don't like bell peppers in general, but I'm glad we have the same taste. do you like spicy food?"

you watched as the scene unfolds before you, smiling so wide that your cheeks hurt. this may seem like a simple outing, but it means a lot to you. you appreciated how your parents are so friendly towards Megumi, asking simple questions that don't involve Jujutsu. your father did ask about how was school in general but didn't pry further when Megumi answered that things are okay.

you've told them that you found yourself a boyfriend after the date in yomiuriland. the truth is, your family wanted to meet him too. in general they wanted to meet Yuuji and Nobara as well, but you guessed there will always be another chance. aside from you, no one in your family has the ability to see curses. you started seeing the curses when you were six, and it shocked your parents.

your grandmother from your father's side did have a history of exceptional supernatural abilities. she was the one to help you cope with your abilities. you used to cry whenever you saw them and have nightmares, and your grandma came to the rescue. she helped you control the power that you managed to exorcise a small curse when you were ten.

by the time it was due for you to enroll in high school, your family let you decide whether to enter Jujutsu Tech or not. to be honest, you were scared of what future awaits you if you took that path, but at the same time, you couldn't bring yourself to not care when you knew that the Jujutsu community is a minority. during the summer break of your final year in junior high, your grandma passed away.

she didn't leave any wish for you to hone your skills; she only hoped that you live a life you chose for yourself. after giving it some thought and discussing it with your parents and also Yato, finally you decided to enter Jujutsu Tech.

because of that, your parents hoped to still be able to give you a normal life. whenever they called you, they would never ask about Jujutsu. there was never an agreement regarding this, yet they understood, and for all that you were so grateful. when you told them about Megumi, it made your parents so happy. they were glad that even with your different path, you are still able to experience things most teenagers do.

you held back the happy tears that threaten to fall as Megumi laughed freely at your mother's jokes and conversed with Yato. he no longer looked worried, instead, his face was graced with the kind of happiness you've never seen from him before.

***

after lunch, the family went sightseeing around Tokyo.

from sky tree to tokyo tower, then to meiji shrine. after buying some snacks and beverages from a convenience store, the trip continued to the shinjuku gyoen national garden. a picnic carpet was laid on the grass as all five sat down, sharing stories here and there as the sun sets. accompanied with snacks, you sure will remember this as one of the best days in your life.

after sunset, Megumi and you had to return for there is a curfew. your parents would stay in Tokyo for another two days, but you don't think you can see each other again because it will be a busy week coming up. Megumi watched as you hugged your parents tightly and he knew you were holding back tears. he tittered as you made Yato bent down just to pat his head, squeezing the younger's cheeks in adoration.

when the taxi taking you back to the school sped away, Megumi adjusted his posture when you scooted closer, hugging him from the side.

"I miss them already," he heard you mumble and Megumi sighed.

"me too."

Megumi doesn't know what came over him this morning. sure, he did want to meet your family someday but he didn't think it would be today. whatever the reason was, he is glad he did so. there was no difference from your stories about your family. if anything, meeting them in person was way better.

to be honest, he never really had a parent figure in his life. he respected Gojo and what he did, but Megumi only sees the man as his mentor. he doesn't know who his father was, while his biological mother died giving birth to him. his stepmother left him and Tsumiki when they were little. thorough his life, Megumi only had Tsumiki as a family.

but after she fell sick, Megumi began to forget what it's like to have a family. he cared deeply for her and always hope one day she wakes up, but he has been waiting for too long. as a kid Megumi remembers waiting for his father to come back, to tell him that he was just busy on a business trip to provide for his family. when he didn't, Megumi hoped he would just come back. he didn't care where he went, he just wanted to see him.

at the little age of six, Megumi accepted that he would never come back and decided that he doesn't care. around that time Gojo came around and things went to become how they are now. he may seem okay on the outside, but a small part of him wondered what it's like to have a family.

when he met the other first-years, he got less lonely thanks to them. although none ever says it out loud, Megumi knows they care for each other. when he met you in his hiding place back then, he never thought you would have a special place in his heart. he founds himself attracted to you so hard, you were like a magnet pulling him close. he wasn't sure about getting into a relationship, but you made it easy.

you made him feel comfortable in his own skin that he doesn't need to fake anything with you. you read him easily like an open book, always noticing the slight changes in his mood. you knew exactly how to make him feel better and what to say in various moments, and Megumi was so touched by your kindness that he didn't dare to ask for more.

yet when you talked about your family as a random topic one day, Megumi finds himself wanting to know more. he wanted to know what it's like, how it's supposed to feel like. he listened to your stories intently, finding himself urging you to tell him more. only when he was ready that he told you about his and Megumi prepared himself for whatever your reaction might be.

would you pity him? would you feel sorry for him? because that's what most people do. he hated the look on their faces, those who knew about him. so he doesn't know how he will handle it if you do the same.

and once again your reaction astounded him that Megumi felt like he was stoned. he was laying on your lap under the tree back then, the sunset wasn't as beautiful as the usual that day. the sky was rather gloomy and dark, but the breeze was still nice so the two of you spent the afternoon there.

Megumi opened his eyes to find you smile at him, and he searched for any sign that it was a suppressed one, a fake one, but he found nothing. it was your usual smile, the ones that reached your smile and made as if you had a halo above your head. your hand continued to play with his hair and Megumi leaned into the touch and he remembers your words clearly.

"I promise to introduce you to my family someday," you spoke softly, left palm cradling his cheek. "whenever you're ready."

it wasn't the reaction he expected, but after hearing you say it, Megumi realizes that it was the reaction he hoped for. he was too embarrassed to say it out loud; he's afraid he's asking for too much from you. but when he searched for your expression to find any sign of discomfort, Megumi almost cried when you looked at him with those warm orbs of yours.

"maybe we can still see them off at the station on Tuesday," you whispered. Megumi nodded, leaning his head on yours. after a few moments of silence, you called for him.

"Megumi?" he hummed, feeling you snuggle closer in his embrace.

"did you enjoy yourself today?"

Megumi smiled at your question. he knew what you meant by the question; you wanted to know if he got to feel what he dreamed of. he is really happy that you never push things on him, your words rang clearly in his head: whenever you're ready. you didn't invite him to come along this morning, keeping to your promise. god, Megumi thought, I'm so in love with you

"of course," he replied softly on top of your head and Megumi could almost see you smile. "I'm really happy."

you let go of the hug and Megumi almost pouted at the sudden loss of warmth, to find you staring at him intently. "is there anything else you wish for?"

Megumi was taken aback by the question. he remembers himself asking you that months ago, the start of your relationship. you had asked him what he wanted sometime after things were official but Megumi couldn't think of an answer. he smiled sheepishly upon realizing that you understood what he wanted without having him say it. at this point, he is literally head over heels for you.

"I don't know," he replied just like how he did back then, and to that, you giggled. Megumi felt his heartbeat quicken,

"leave it to me, then."

"will the two of you stay silent, for fucks sake," Nobara cursed, with her elbow nudged Yuuji harshly. the strawberry-haired boy groaned as he clutched his side.

he was about to retort when suddenly their object of observation moved away and with eagle eyes, they followed every movement.

"I'm surprised to see this side of Megumi-chan," Gojo wiped a non-existent tear dramatically, causing Nobara to roll her eyes.

just a few meters from the bushes they stayed at, Megumi was talking to your father casually. he even smiled and laughed, something they rarely witness from him.

"our Fushiguro-kun has grown up, huh?" Yuuji followed Gojo as he wiped his eyes, but there were actual tears there. Nobara groaned internally but smiled nevertheless. seeing this was enough to not murder Yuuji for disturbing her beauty sleep, screaming that Fushiguro is going to meet his in-law.

they had followed the family throughout the day and from this Nobara can conclude a few things:

  1. Gojo-sensei is rich. like, rich rich. he had no problem booking a table in that fancy restaurant your family had lunch in.
  2. therefore, your family is also rich rich. Nobara wondered why did you bother to enroll in this stupid school.
  3. Fushiguro has a huge soft spot for you and your family. it was actually obvious but seeing this only confirms her hunch. maybe he can get the boy to carry her groceries if she asked you to do it.
  4. your mother is very cool. Nobara likes her style.
  5. your little brother is very handsome. Nobara is currently thinking about how to get his number from you without telling you that she was spying on the whole thing.
  6. Gojo-sensei and Itadori suck at hiding. they stand out too much that they got kicked out of sky tree and tokyo tower under the suspicion of being pickpocketers.

nevertheless, today was a great day. maybe she can finally stop worrying over you and Fushiguro because things turned out well.

bonus 1.1

Megumi was busy picking snacks when your father showed up beside him with the tray, pointing to some specific packages.

"the one you're holding is her favorite, and this one is mine and her mother's," he referred to the ones Megumi took under his instruction. "and that one below is Yato's favorite."

as Megumi put everything in the tray, his heartfelt warm at your father's act. such a small and simple act, yet it shows just how much he cared for the family.

"Fushiguro-kun," the older man called and Megumi stood up straight, "which one is your favorite? I would like to know too."

Megumi couldn't think of an answer. he knows what his favorite snack is, but he didn't expect the question at all. hearing that coming from your father after he thought just how meaningful the action was, almost made him cry. hell, he almost cried a lot today.

the older man seemed to understand, as he only smiled. your father took a step forward and placed both hands on Megumi's shoulder, the two being the same height makes their eyes the same level.

"I'm not going to ask you to protect my daughter and you don't have to promise me anything," your father began, "just enjoy your youth. the two of you are still so young and despite all odds, we wish for you to live to the fullest."

Megumi could only nod, not trusting his voice at all. your father smiled warmly and it reminded Megumi of yours so much. with both hands still on his shoulder, out of nowhere the older man pulled Megumi into a hug. the boy's eyes widen, unsure of what to do. he usually despises and refuses physical contact with people he doesn't know, but somehow he welcomed your father's hug.

"forgive this old man for invading your personal space, but I want to let you know that you are always welcomed in this family." he patted Megumi's back hard, but it didn't hurt at all. he did that as if to reassure Megumi that he meant his words.

"thank you, sir." was all Megumi could muster. your father smiled once again, and only then Megumi noticed the wrinkles that started to grow on his face and how some part of his hair has turned white. yet despite all that, he radiates a glow that seems to only grow stronger as he gets older.

Megumi promised to always remember his words.

Notes:

there goes the ending. at first, I didn't think of making this into a series, but after re-reading the first one it gave me ideas that lead here. my mind can't help but wonder about what-ifs, like what if Toji didn't leave his family, or what if Megumi recognized him back in Shibuya. things like that and that resulted in me writing this. I hope you guys enjoyed this and I appreciate kudos & comments a lot. thankyou so much!
