“What, that you like to fucking polar bear swim like an absolute nut case?” Katsuki’s words might have been lost as Izuku’s head slid under the water, except his ears immediately shifted from the inferior, fleshy human version to wide, flared fins. They were much more sensitive to vibrations, especially through water. He stayed under the water for long moments, body shivering from his transformation. It had been months since he’d been able to visit his home waters, and his tail curled and flexed in a joyful ache. The blanket of the lake felt protective, and he wanted to stay. However, he knew it did not hide him in its clear, shallow water.
He broke the surface slowly, eyes squeezed shut and heart pounding. His tail twitched in his nervousness, and his entire body winced at the large splash caused by his caudal fin slapping water. The only sound after was water lapping at the rocky shore of the cove and their breathing. He focused on the feeling of his main heart pounding hard in his chest, waiting.
