IMPORTANT
Disclaimer: Nope, not mine and not profitable… for me, that is. And also, everything (but the misguided idea that originated this fic) belongs to somebody else.
Also:
1 - This is a crack fic - nothing but a little joke
2 - Tony is not dead. Nope, no way, it didn't happen. He got very very hurt, spent a lot of time in the hospital and recovered, because TONY! I am not prepared to deal with any other alternative, sorry. Just accept and move on.
===========
Pepper was having a normal day at work, meaning, it was a day with a reasonable amount of stress because of the sheer size of SI, but nothing outrageous... until that memo. It caught her by surprise, it was just a regular memo from the PR department that if not for one detail would have been innocuous.
After reading it for a second and then a third time, a battle plan was formulated and the first thing to do was place a call to Maria Hill and ask for reinforcements. This was not something any of them could face alone.
“How long do we have?” Maria asked in the practical way she would use to face all challenges she faced. Pepper could see the battle-ready attitude coming online in the brunette.
“Two weeks” Pepper said already coming up with contingency plans in her mind. “Hopefully, it will be enough.”
“We will need the whole team… do we have an ETA on Thor?” Maria asked her assistant.
“He is due to arrive any minute today, Ma’am.”
“Let me know the minute he is on Earth.”
“Yes, Ma’am.” The poor man all but ran out the door.
Maria and Pepper exchanged a look and both women took a deep breath, fortifying themselves for the task ahead. It was time to get to work.
++++++++
The whole team was enjoying a well-deserved break after the latest world ending event when the message came in. One simple word pinging in their phones from the privet number of Pepper Potts.
“Assemble.”
+++++++++
Pepper was waiting for them in a secure conference room, typing away with a worried frown marring her face. One by one, the Avengers filled the room, even after all they had been through only now a sense of camaraderie could be felt. For all the hurt Thanos had brought them, bringing them back together was a mark on the plus side.
“What is it, Pepper?” Tony asked as he moved to sit by her side, rubbing a rag in his hands in a mostly futile effort to remove the motor oil from them.
“We have a potential problem coming up on the last Friday of the month... let me rephrase that, a problem of potential global proportions that is definitely taking place on that Friday. Here, at the compound.”
“I don´t understand,” Steve said hesitantly, “we know of a problem that will occur in about 14 days and we will what? Wait until it arrives?”
“Unfortunately, there is nothing more we can do. We have to prepare and wait.” Maria said walking in with two stressed looking assistants right behind her.
“And what is this unavoidable event?” Natasha asks with a raised eyebrow.
“Midtown High school senior PA Science class is spending the weekend here in a school field trip.” Maria answers with an air of fatality.
The silence in the room lasts for a whole minute. Tony pales and sits heavily besides Pepper.
“Wait, this whole thing is because a bunch of kids are coming over?” Sam asks surprised.
“I don’t see how that qualifies as an Avenger situation…” Natasha looks around the room noticing the confused look on most of the faces and the way Tony seems to be lost in thought staring into space.
Pepper takes a fortifying breath and stands up, drawing the attention to herself.
“A little background information then…” she opens a file in her tablet “This is Peter Parker, age 14.”
A photo of a young boy appears in the screen behind her. He is cute, with brown wavy hair and brown eyes and a nice open smile.
“In a field trip with his school to Oscorp installation got bitten by a radioactive spider and becomes Spider-man.”
“THAT is Spider-man!”
“So young!”
“He what?”
“Peter Parker, age 15,” a new picture of the same boy takes the screen, “ takes part in a field trip with his school decathlon team to Washington… you all remember the incident where the elevator blew up…”
Everybody nods around the room, they do remember.
“…That was his class trapped in the elevator.”
“They do seem to have bad luck when it comes to…” Steve starts to say but Pepper interrupts him as if he had never opened his mouth.
“Peter Parker, age 16…” people star to shift around becoming uncomfortable as a new picture is shown, “leaves his school in a field trip to MOMA and ends up in Titan with Tony, Strange and the Guardians. You all remember that day.”
They do.
“Peter Parker, age 17, summer field trip with his school to Europe.”
A picture of Spider-man fighting Mysterio on the streets of London is shown.
“Tony was still in the hospital when the news came in, keeping him there was neither easy nor fun.” Pepper says, she is incredibly happy her husband survived the fight with the mad titan, but it took a heavy toil in his body.
“I see how Spider-man has a horrible luck when it comes to field trips, but why is this relevant?” Steve is finally able to voice his question.
“Peter Parker attends Midtown and is his class coming over to the compound” Maria says, there is an apologetic tone in her voice.
The Avengers look around to each other and process the information. Steve stands and pulls a blueprint of the compound on the screen.
“How far out are The Guardians and Captain Marvel?” he asks already making plans in his head.
“I’ll send a signal right away.” Natasha says in response pulling her phone.
“Could we get Stranger to set a few wards?” Sam muses almost to himself as he pulls his phone. He and James have been going to the sanctum, as the sorcerers had offered to help with James recovery.
Rodney is also on the phone, maybe he could get a few troops to schedule a tactical exercise in the nearby base, that way they would be close and ready, just in case.
Thor is already taking to the Valkyrie in New Asgard, is about time a few of the Asgardian warriors come to the compound, just to visit… and maybe compare weapons with the warriors of Earth.
Pepper and Maria look around the room and the battle plans being draw… hoping they would be ready in time. They only hoped it would be enough for when Midtown came visiting.
Tony was pulling his phone too and checking his contact list. Maybe it was finally time to give a call The Defenders and see if they wanted to lend a hand… with everybody pitching in they had a fairly good chance of surviving this one... Maybe.
