Work Text:
Their cabin is exactly as Yuu had imagined.
It's nice and cozy, just enough space for the two of them, just the two of them, all for themselves and no one else, just like it always should've been.
It's raining softly and Yuu watches the droplets fall from the grey sky, sighing gently as he leans his head against the glass, cuddled up on a green bean bag and in one of Mika's bigger white sweatshirts he had gotten as a gift for his newfound humanity.
Wow, it had only been a week since he and Mika had finally settled down, had finally gotten the happy ending they had so longed for, but-
But, it felt like an eternity had passed.
Although, to be fair, with their old repressed memories finally resurfacing, their old life coming to light and showing them things they never had even dreamed of-
(Wings flutter softly in the wind, limbs tangling together as their giggles sounded throughout the clouds. Kisses were exchanged, skin never untouched for too long, and their hair flies as more wind rushes past them as freckled cheeks turn sunset red-)
Yuu closes his eyes and smiles, reminiscing of that very same past.
Footsteps could suddenly be heard inching closer and closer, making Yuu exhale softly as Mika took a seat in the bean bag across from him, the two now side by side near the watery window.
"...What are you thinking about?" Mika whispered, reaching over to brush some of his bangs from his face and Yuu opens his orbs to look at him.
His smile widens.
"You," He answers honestly, watching as Mika blinks before he grins back.
Yuu sits up himself up slightly as the blonde grabs his hand.
"About the clouds," He continued, voice turning into that of a whisper. "And what we did up there, together..."
"Yeah?" Mika breathes out, eyes dropping slightly. He glances out the window.
The rain pitter-patters softly against the glass.
"Remember when we snuck out of the cathedral and I took you up into the sky," He recalled, the newfound blue in his eyes sparkling. "We danced in the clouds, not even caring if someone saw us, and-"
Yuu grinned impossibly wide, cheeks reddening.
Mika turned to him.
"I kissed you for the first time."
The raven hummed, biting his lip as his face flushed a deep crimson, and Mika smiled with it, smiled so wide.
"...Can you do it again?" Yuu asked, voice so quiet. "Kiss me for the first time?"
The elder hums low and deep, not even hesitating as he leans closer and closer before Yuu sighs breathily and their lips meet.
There are no noises, just soft breathing and little gasps of breath, the rain outside is calm and all is right with the world, that's it.
They part after a few moments and their different colored orbs meet.
"...Again?" Yuu whispered.
Mika answers with another kiss.
This time, Yuu's hands reach up to cup the blonde's cheeks and the blonde's arms wrap around his tiny waist, then, for now-they are complete.
This life that they've lived hasn't been perfect, far from it in fact. They've been through so much, seen so much, they bond over mutual pain and suffering, something that nothing and no one could be able to comprehend or even come close too-
And, maybe it's the reason they fell in love-because the other understands.
Yuu pulled back after another few minutes, few hours, who knows? But, he did and stared up at Mika with adoration and pure love in his emerald pearls.
"Mika," He began, voice cracking slightly. "Can I say something?"
The blonde blinked and nodded.
Yuu swallowed thickly and felt tears well up in his eyes as he intertwined their fingers, emotions welling up inside of him, emotions he'd never felt before he met Mika, before everything fell into place for him.
"Yuu-chan..." Mika whispered and Yuu shook his head, gripping his hands in their intertwined fingers tighter, never wanting to let go.
"Mika, I-" He felt like his heart was beating a hundred miles per hour, like he'd faint right then and there.
Yuu looked into the blonde's eyes and-
"Mika," He sighed, a tear falling down onto sunset dusted cheeks, his skin impossibly red as he poured his heart out. "I've never felt this way for anyone before and...and it's scary, but also-"
He smiles and laughs, wiping at his watery eyes.
"Exciting."
Mika softens before him.
"Whenever I see you, think of you, it doesn't matter," Yuu sobbed, head bowing as his body shook with overwhelming emotions. "I-something inside of me wants to laugh, it makes me want to cry, it makes me want to be held by you forever."
Wings unfurl from their backs, fluttering softly and being careful not to hit anything close by before they curled around their forms, two souls coming together.
Yuu leans against his shoulder and Mika nuzzles in return.
"In short terms," He huffed a laugh and glanced up at him through his raven-colored bangs, catching his gaze.
"I love you, too, Mika. I'm sorry it took me so long to respond..."
Ocean blue pearls widen and water, then, in an instant-
Mika is breaking down.
He sobs, tears streaking down and down till they fall from his chin and right into Yuu's lap.
The blonde shakes with it, just like Yuu had, shakes with emotion as he leans into his form, folding himself as he grips onto the younger as though he were his lifeline, making sure to not let go for even a moment as Yuu hugs him back with just as much force.
He doesn't know why he's crying. Or, actually, maybe he does.
("No matter what happens. We'll be together. For a hundred years. Wait, no, a thousand! Ten thousand! Wait, wait, that's too short...")
Mika cries into his shoulder, his wings curling around them tighter.
("We'll be together forever! Till the end of time!")
He's wanted Yuu to say those three words for so, long. So long.
He's loved Yuu-well, forever it seems. Ever since they met in their first life two thousand years ago and in their second, at the orphanage when Mika held his hand out to a lost and angry little boy who held no love for another in his heart.
But, slowly, so very slowly, Mika was the one to melt down those walls, to be the first one to be loved by this stubborn, brave, beautiful angel before him.
For Yuu to say that he loves him, well-
The emotion he feels is indescribable from it, he's so unsure of how to react, so he just sobs. He sobs and sobs into the raven's form, letting Yuu hold him and hug him, just like he wanted.
"I-I love you, too," Mika gasped, hands shaking as he holds the younger upper arms like a lifeline. "I love you, Yuu-chan. I love you, I love you."
Yuu giggles and sniffles. Mika feels tears hit the top of his head.
"I love you, too, Mika," He says and, all is right with the world.
A hand entangles in blonde locks as the sky clears, the rain stopping short as the birds outside begin to chirp.
"I love you, too."
Outside, the sun is bright.
