Work Text:
Looking at the floor in despair, Haruka had an unshakable guilt that choked him, making it hard to think. Not a single thought was able to make it through his head.
“Hey, are you alright..?”
Haruka looked up to see the dark haired man, Kazui? was it? Haruka tried nodding his head but he couldn’t like, so he just looked back down and stared at the floor again.
Kazui sat down next to Haruka with a little distance between them. “Hey buddy...” his tone was sweet and soft, it was so warm and caring. “I know you’ve been through a lot, we all have, and even though what all of us did wasn’t right, we still have time to change.”
This was it. The attention Haruka always wanted right? And it wasn’t yelling or hitting either, it was sweet, kind, and welcoming. Haruka’s vision began to blur. He wiped his face with his sleeve and took a shaky sigh. He didn’t speak, though.
Although he didn’t say a word, that was enough for Kazui to understand. He’s just a kid, a misguided, troubled kid. He just needed love and affection. He took a risk and put his hand on Haruka’s shoulder.
Haruka cracked a little, he was so broken down and messed up in the head, for god sakes he committed murder. He began to shake, feeling Kazui’s warm hand on his shoulder was relieving but at the same time frightening. This isn’t something he’s used to, never in his life has someone been this kind to him. Kazui hardly knows him and he’s treating him like a son, if not that a friend.
In the back of his mind he understood, he knows about Kazui, no children, dead wife, but the difference between him and Kazui, is Kazui is a good person, his wife is dead purely by horrible accident, Kazui loved the hell out of his wife, he treated her right and cherished her. Haruka wanted to feel those feelings, he wanted to feel a connection.
“I know it’s hard, at your age things are difficult. I went through bad feelings too. You aren’t unfixable, I promise.” Kazui rubbed Haruka’s shoulder. Haruka flinched but soon settled down. His heart rate up from being on alert. No adult was ever like this to him. All of Kazui’s attention was focused on him. Haruka, no one else but Haruka. This is what he’s always wanted.
“Thank you....” He whispered.
