Work Text:
A new day the same routine.
Asahi sighed when he heard a soft knock on his window. And then another. And then another.
With a groan, Asahi threw his blanket off, glared at his window, and slipped his feet into his slippers.
"I know you know how to get into the house!" Asahi yelled out of his window, squeezing his eyes shut and grimacing in the biting cold wind. His yell was greeted with silence and heavy wind. Looking down Asahi saw no one there, just a few pebbles sitting on the small wooden porch. With a sigh, he closed his window.
"Why don't you ever give us the good fish?"
Asahi leapt up, whipping around, a hand on his chest.
"Suga," Asahi breathed out, frowning. "Place stop scaring me when you come in."
"But that isn't as fun," Suga pouted, the feathers on his brow twitching as he frowned.
Asahi just shook his head, rolling his eyes as he placed a kiss on Suga's forehead.
With the first heart-racing event in his routine out of the way, Asahi began to work through the rest of his morning routine. Suga trailed after him, pouting and whining the whole way. Sticking his beak into everything Asahi did. As if this wasn't the same thing that happened every day. One sugar in his thermos, an elastic band around last nights leftovers, tall brown boots pulled out from under the little cover on the porch.
"You forgot your phone," Suga called, slipping the small device into Asahi's back pocket as he bent down to shove his feet into his boots.
"Thank you," Asahi mumbled as he stood up, looking down at Suga. Suga titled his head at Asahi, feathers in his hair wiggling a bit. With a smile Asahi fixed a few feathers that were out of place, smoothing out the hair he disturbed around them. "I assume Daichi is awake?"
"He woke up with the sun."
Just like every day.

It was only a short trek to Daichi's tank. One Asahi and Suga would sometimes spend walking hand in hand. One Asahi and Suga would most of the times spend walking separately. So Suga could disappear into the underbrush only to pop out and scare Asahi later down the track.
"One day you're going to give me a heart attack."
"But that day isn't today. Live a little."
"I don't think living a little means getting scared every day."
Just like every other morning, Daichi was already hanging out over the lip of his tank. Watching as the pair walked up and out of the forested area. A small sign hammered into the ground just outside Daichi's tank, declaring:
"Daichi - Orca hybrid"
A sign so small yet still managed to cause Asahi endless headaches. Listening to Suga complain about how it was just as much Suga's tank as it was Daichi's at this point.
"We're tank mates!" Suga would yell as he tried in vain to pull the sign out of the ground.
"What took you so long? Did Asahi sleep in again?"
"I don't sleep in."
Suga ignored Asahi,
"Yeah, he did. I had to wake him up."
"Hey! I have an alarm on my phone you know," Asahi complained as he trudged over to the tiny shed, "Not that I ever get to use it."
"So you should be thankful I wake you up every day," Suga humphed. Asahi looked up as he walked by the tank, Suga already hopping up and into the tank.
"Someone's gonna get mad at you for being in Daichi's tank again," Asahi warned.
Suga ignored Asahi's warning, choosing instead to swim down to the bottom of the tank before quickly swimming up to land on Daichi's back. Daichi looked back at Suga. The silver penguin wiggled around a little before settling down. Asahi just sighed and shook his head as he looked at the pair now floating in the tank.
"How's your hip feeling?" Asahi asked, voice low. Setting a metal bucket down gently beside him, Asahi took a seat on the little platform at the edge of the tank
Daichi turned to look at his hip, Suga comfortably curled up on his wide back,
"It still aches if I swim too hard."
"Then stop swimming too hard."
Looking back at Asahi Daichi made a face,
"What if I trapped you in a small house for months and told you not to run or jump?"
Asahi just smiled at the ground as he turned to fetch Daichi's food. Comfortably following his usual routine.

The sun was beating down by the time Asahi made his way back to Daichi's tank. Asahi watched as water splashed out of the tank, a familiar head of silver hair and black feathers bobbing up and down out of the water. Asahi paused beside the tank, setting down his heavy bag and undoing his shoelaces.
Then suddenly, his vision was washed white and blurry, a wave of water crashing down on his head. Asahi spluttered, shaking his head around once the water cleared. Then, soon he heard laughter. Looking up, Asahi found Daichi grinning down at him from the edge of the tank, Suga nowhere to be seen, but his laughter clear as day.
"Really?"
"You're gonna get into the tank anyway," Daichi shrugged, following Asahi as Asahi glumly threw his sodden clothes over a worn wooden bench.
"I still need to wear these clothes back to the house!" Asahi yelled as he struggled with his socks, the wet fabric clinging to his feet. With an exasperated sigh, Asahi finally undressed. His feet squelching through the dirt before he got to the small platform. "And now I need to wash my feet off before I get in."
"Why are you complaining so much? You were gonna do that either way," Suga swam up next to Daichi.
"It's the principal of the matter," Asahi frowned as he quickly scrubbed his feet off.
The water felt even more freezing than it did in the morning. But it didn't matter. Daichi swam by slowly, Suga following after, spinning in the water. The two playfully chased each other in the tank. Both of them occasionally returning to Asahi who was slowly swimming after them. Teasing him for being a slow human.
These were the times Asahi cherished most. The grins on Suga and Daichi's faces as the two of them played around in the tank. The feeling of Suga's feathers on his arm as Suga dragged him around the water. Laughing as Daichi chased after them. Floating to the top of the water, basking in the sun. Holding hands as to not float too far away. Low conversations exchanged between the occasional kiss.
Asahi sighed and looked over at the two, Suga now laying stomach to stomach with Daichi. Every day was the same routine, and Asahi would never change that. Except for perhaps one thing.

Suga gasped, crouching down to where Asahi was hammering away.
"You actually did it."
Asahi just grinned as he looked down at the little sign he had replaced.
"Daichi - Orca hybrid & Suga - Penguin hybrid."
"So now you two are officially tankmates."
