“Hey Aunt May, could I go over to Ned’s tomorrow?” Peter yelled as he opened the door to his room and threw his keys in. He glanced over at his bed and noticed a paper bag, not unlike the one his spider man suit was in a few weeks ago. When he got closer, he noticed a rainbow sticker, and writing on it that read, “Your binders finally arrived! I hope they fit. Just DONT wear them when you’re out patrolling. - TS”
Peter’s eyes went wide and his jaw dropped as he looked back to make sure Aunt May wasn’t anywhere close by, before running to the bag and trying to get his oversized hoodie off.
20 minutes and a lot of struggling later, Peter could almost feel some kind of superhero anthem play as he got up and walked to his somewhat reflective window. His tank binder, trans stripes and all, looked so good on him, not to mention how flat it made his chest. He felt he could almost cry from the dysphoria relief, and his grinning face let the world know how happy he was.
But suddenly, three words broke through the metaphorical music and told Peter that he didn’t close his room’s door, and that he had a lot of explaining to do to Aunt May.
“What the f-”
“Aunt May, there’s a perfectly logical explanation here,” Peter quickly interrupted as he turned around.
“Well, I know that’s what the trans flag looks like, so it’d be logical to assume you’re trans. Are you trans?” May asked in a seemingly neutral voice that Peter could not interpret.
“I… Well I…” he stammered after a time of uncomfortable silence. “Okay yes I am a trans man, but can you really blame me for hiding it? I mean, I didn’t want to risk you acting badly or throwing me out and, and your family is so religious and transphobic so-”
“Hey,” Aunt May said as she took Peter’s hand. “I can’t say I understand what it’s like to be trans, but I trust that you know you best. I definitely overreacted when I saw you a minute ago, no ifs ands or buts about it. I... still have a lot of questions, but just know that you’re my amazing nephew, and I’m here for you… I take it you don’t go by your old name anymore?”
“It’s Peter,” he responded, chuckling a little bit to hide the fact that he was caught off guard.
“Peter… that’ll take some getting used to, but that’s a nice name. Definitely suits you. Got a little alliteration going on with your name...
“Can I hug you, Peter, or do you want some time alone?”
Peter sniffled a bit as he replied, “A hug would be nice.”
The two of them hugged for quite a while as Peter sniffled and cried a bit more. He knew there was still a lot to explain, including the inevitable reveal that he was spider-man, but it was nice to know he had an aunt who accepted him for who he is, as well as all sorts of friends to back him up.
Thinking through all of that, he smiled once again.
“...Not to break this thing we had going here,” Aunt May said with a hint of wonder before breaking the hug. “But who got you this trans pride boob flattener gizmo? If I didn’t know any better, I would guess that came directly from Stark Tower.”
“Uhhhhh…”
