Work Text:
Yuri Katsuki glided on the ice, ritually going through basic movements as he warmed his body up. They had one arrived in Hatsetsu for Golden Week the night before but Yuri didn’t want to get a single step behind his biggest competition and his fiance, Victor Nikiforov.
He used to get so stressed out on the ice but then Victor became his coach, and he rediscovered his love of the ice. That was probably the biggest gift that Victor could have given him. He smiled softly thinking about how he had boldly announced to the world that his theme for the grand prix would be love and how he then panicked that he wouldn’t live up to the hype he had built himself. But he had in more ways than one.
He moved his body into a spin, practicing the free skate routine that had almost won him gold in the grand prix. Even now he wasn’t sure how he felt about coming in second. On one hand, because he still hadn’t won gold he made the decision to keep skating and now had Victor as his coach and his biggest competition. But on the other hand, he had really wanted to present Victor with a gold medal as proof of Victor’s skill as a coach and all the hard work they had put in together.
He finished the routine, going into the final pose where he was reaching to where Victor would normally stand. To his surprise, Victor was there and had begun clapping. “Good morning Yuri!” He smiled and Yuri skated towards him. “I am glad to see you are working as hard as ever, but you left the bed so cold with just me and Makkachin alone.”
“I don’t think the cold bothers you all that much.” Yuri smiled softly at his russian fiance. His hand went to Victor’s and their fingers tangled up together. “I mean, you and Christophe went swimming in the pool during winter in Barcelona.”
“Ah! You wound me!” Victor dramatically leaned back before grabbing Yuri’s hand and pulling him into a kiss. Yuri blushed furiously as Victor pulled away, caressing Yuri’s face. “You will have to make it up to me somehow.” His voice was low and husky and Yuri could only make embarrassed noises as he was flustered beyond belief. How could that man make him so nervous and so comfortable at the same time? Victor winked and went to get his own skates on, giving Yuri a moment to compose himself.
Soon Victor was on the ice and they were skating together. They moved with each other in a comfortable silence, reading each other’s moves and intentions. The music played only in their minds as they grasped hands and danced on the ice.Victor’s body felt warm and Yuri cherished the brief moments their bodies connected between dips and lifts.
Yuri leaned against Victor after their dance was done, closing his eyes as he embraced the moment. “That was fun, my little pork cutlet bowl.” Victor ran a hand through his hair before pulling away. “If you keep skating like that you may actually win the gold medal from me. I promise I won’t be mad. I so deeply wish to kiss your gold medal...”
“When you say it like that it almost sounds dirty…” Yuri commented as both he and Victor went to remove their skates.
“Perhaps it was…” Victor commented, taking a once against flustered Yuri’s hand and leading him back to the hot springs to wash up and relax.
