From The Moment I Met You

Summary:

Yoongi is getting his daughter ready to start kindergarten by taking her to get vaccinations when he meets a beautiful nurse with pink hair and kind eyes that his daughter immediately adores and calls a fairy within seconds of meeting. Jimin's day is made by the little girl thinking he's a magical being, and he thinks that is the end of that until he runs into the duo time and time again, as if fate has more in store for them.

Work Text:

“Eunji we’re gonna be late!”

“Coming appa!”

Yoongi triple checks he had his necessities as a five-year-old girl toddles to his side, gently tugging on his jeans for his attention. He looks down and gives her a smile before taking her hand and heading out the door.

“Where are we going appa?”

“You’re starting school soon so we need to visit the doctor,” Yoongi explains to Eunji who promptly pouts at her father. “It’s just a quick visit sweetheart.”

He helps her into the car before taking the driver's seat, running a hand through his blonde hair to push it out of his eyes, and starting the drive, only about fifteen minutes if traffic cooperates. Thankfully it does, giving them a little bit extra time so they don’t have to rush.

“Appointment for Min Eunji,” Yoongi says after approaching the check-in desk. The attendant types the name into the computer, peering over her glasses as she does and pushing them back to the bridge of her nose as she looks back at Yoongi.

“Vaccinations correct?”

“Yes,” Yoongi answers. The attendant types some more before handing an iPad over and instructing him to fill out details for his daughter. Yoongi thanks her before moving aside, Eunji staying close as she holds her stuffed bear close to her chest. After finding a seat in the waiting room a little bit further away from the other parents and kids, Yoongi lifts Eunji into a seat before sitting beside her and completing the forms as instructed.

“Appa there is a fairy!”

“That’s nice sweetheart,” Yoongi answers, giving his daughter a quick smile before continuing his task.

“Appa you didn’t even look!” Eunji complains with a pout.

“I will when I finish this okay? This is important,” Yoongi answers calmly. Eunji makes a huff sound but says nothing more as Yoongi completes the details for his daughter’s check-up.

“Min Eunji,” someone calls, likely a nurse, so Yoongi stands and scoops his daughter up in his arms to carry her faster.

“Appa! The fairy!” Eunji whispers shouts, tugging on his shirt and looking at the nurse in front of them.

Yoongi takes a proper look then and before them is a beautiful man in pale blue scrubs with pastel pink hair, styled back out of his face. He has a warm smile and welcoming stare and if Yoongi didn’t know better he would also think he is a fairy.

“You must be Eunji,” the nurse says kindly, smiling at the little girl who giggles and clings a little more into her father.

“She can be a little shy,” Yoongi explains, handing the iPad over to the nurse before shifting his hold on his daughter.

“No worries,” the nurse replies, now giving the elder a smile which Yoongi would best describe as radiant. “Min Yoongi I presume?”

“Uh yes. Her dad,” Yoongi answers, following as Jimin turns and heads down the hall before entering one of the examination rooms.

“Park Jimin,” the nurse introduces, holding the door open for them as they step inside. “Here for school vaccinations, correct?”

“Yes.”

“Any known issues I should be aware of?”

“No.”

“Okay,” Jimin says with a smile to Yoongi before turning back to Eunji.

“Are you a fairy?” Eunji asks immediately, much to the surprise of Yoongi. She never talks to strangers, not even from being taught that way. She’s always been shy and talks through Yoongi, until now.

“A fairy?” Jimin questions with a soft chuckle. “What makes you think I’m a fairy?”

“Your hair is pink!” she answers, pointing at it with a giggle. Jimin giggles along with her and seamlessly gets to work, preparing the shots while still talking to Eunji. “And you’re pretty.”

“Eunji,” Yoongi says in slight warning but mostly in surprise at her openness with the nurse.

“Thank you. You’re very pretty too Miss Eunji,” Jimin replies sweetly, completely unfazed at the little girl’s comments. “Is it okay if your dad holds on to your bear for a moment?”

Eunji hugs the bear tighter, a sign of her comfort attachment to the toy, and Jimin easily responds with, “How about you hug him with this arm only?”

Jimin simply taps the arm in question and Eunji nods, shifting her toy to that arm and hugging it close to her side.

“Does he have a name?” Jimin asks, multitasking preparing the first shot.

“Kumamon!” she says happily, squeezing the black bear. “Appa got him for my birthday!”

“Is that so?” Jimin asks kindly. Eunji nods, her two pigtails flopping with the action adorably. “You must have a good appa then.”

“He’s the best!” Eunji answers, looking over at Yoongi who melts every time he sees his daughter give him that adoring stare. Yoongi’s eyes then flick over to Jimin who also had looked over at him and he immediately blushed.

“Do fairies have appas?” Eunji asks as Jimin completes the first shot.

“I believe they do,” Jimin answers even while concentrating on his job.

“So that means you have an appa?”

“I do.”

“Is he a fairy too?”

“No he isn’t a fairy,” Jimin answers as he does the second shot.

Yoongi is honestly dumbfounded by this entire exchange. First, his daughter is talking comfortably with a stranger. Second, said stranger is incredible with his daughter in a way Yoongi hasn’t even seen his own family be. And third, said stranger is very attractive and it makes him flustered.

“That’s it. You’re my best patient yet,” Jimin compliments as he puts the bandaid on, earning a big smile from Eunji.

“Did you hear that appa?”

“Yes I did sweetheart,” Yoongi replies, moving to his daughter with a smile.

“Do you know what best patients get?” Jimin asks Eunji who shakes her head no as she blinks back at him. Jimin smiles at her before moving to one of the cabinets in the room and grabbing a lollipop from the stash. Eunji gasps excitedly and makes grabby hands for it immediately upon seeing it, making Jimin laugh and Yoongi swears that is the best laugh he has ever heard after his daughter’s.

“Is this okay?” Jimin asks Yoongi who just nods since he’s a bit stuck on the nurse’s laugh still. With a smile Jimin hands over the candy which Eunji eagerly unwraps and puts in her mouth.

“That’s all,” Jimin announces with a smile, pulling off his gloves and opening the door for the pair. Yoongi scoops Eunji up again and follows Jimin out of the room and back to the waiting room.

“Bye Mister Fairy!” Eunji says brightly, slightly muffled by the candy.

“Bye Miss Eunji,” Jimin replies sweetly, smiling so wide his eyes turn to crescents. Yoongi has to force himself away from the endearing sight, feeling his face flush as he takes his daughter to head home.

“Mister Fairy?” another nurse asks Jimin as the pink-haired one watches the pair depart.

“She thought I was a fairy,” Jimin answers. “It was really cute.”

“Most kids are cute,” the other replies, a boxy smile pulling his lips. “Dads however are hit or miss. He seemed to be a hit.”

“Kim Taehyung we are at work,” Jimin says in a hushed laugh.

“Just calling it like I see it,” Taehyung says with a shrug, checking the list before calling into the waiting room for his next patient.

“His wife probably thinks he’s cute too.”

“A wife but no ring?” Taehyung replies. Before Jimin can question further how his best friend knows that, a mom with her son approaches and Taehyung guides them back. Jimin shakes his head to himself, choosing to get back to work and calling the next patient.

--

“No that won’t work,” Yoongi grumbles to himself, scratching out the notes he just made before leaning back in his chair. He pushes his glasses onto his head and rubs his eyes as if that will help him focus.

It’s Eunji’s first day of kindergarten and he dropped her off this morning, staving off his many emotions until he got home. His baby girl is growing up and it’s hitting him a little harder than he expected.

He plays a little more on his keyboard to see if something will stick, and after no such luck he determines a break is needed and coffee required. He grabs his keys, wallet, and phone, deciding a walk to the nearby coffee shop would also help.

He arrives and gets his coffee fairly quickly since it is mid-morning and the early rush has long passed. As Yoongi turns to leave, a familiar pink-haired man in scrubs enters.

“Oh,” Jimin says upon seeing Yoongi, much to the latter’s surprise. “Eunji’s dad right?”

“Uh yeah? The fairy nurse right?”

The man laughs brightly and Yoongi nearly forgot how beautiful his laugh is after the last couple weeks since the appointment.

“That made my day honestly,” Jimin says, stepping aside to continue speaking with Yoongi who starts to feel warm with the new proximity.

“Good. Although I think you made her day more. She wouldn’t stop talking about you,” Yoongi admits, nervously rubbing the nape of his neck.

“Really? That’s adorable.”

“Yeah although I’m pretty sure if she ever sees you again you’ll get interrogated about life as a fairy.”

Jimin laughs again and Yoongi can’t help but smile from it, especially since the nurse laughs with his whole body, head tossed back as he does.

“Is she with her mom?” Jimin asks then and Yoongi should have anticipated it in some form, but he didn’t.

“Oh um no. No mom in the picture,” Yoongi answers awkwardly. “Eunji’s at school right now.”

“Oh,” Jimin replies, looking surprised which confuses Yoongi to be honest. “Sorry if that was an uncomfortable question.”

“It’s fine, just didn’t expect it,” Yoongi says.

“Mobile order for Park Jimin,” a barista calls, timing impeccable to prevent an expanding awkwardness. Jimin quickly grabs his drink, putting a straw in and turning back to Yoongi.

“Tell Eunji the fairy says hi.”

Yoongi snorts a laugh which Jimin smiles at, earning a smile from the former which makes his heart flip.

“I’ll do that,” Yoongi assures. Jimin nods, suddenly nervous feeling the blonde’s cat-like eyes on him.

“See you around,” Jimin says quickly when he feels his face flush. He quickly heads out of the coffee shop, leaving Yoongi a bit dazed at the suddenness of the departure.

“See you?” Yoongi mumbles, brain just catching up with him and what Jimin had said. Will he get to see Jimin again? He hoped so.

--

“Why are you as pink as your hair?” Taehyung questioned upon seeing his best friend enter the nurses station.

“I am not,” Jimin weakly defends, taking a peek at his reflection and unfortunately seeing he was undoubtedly flushed.

“What’s got you so flustered? Or is it a who?” Taehyung asks with a growing smirk, especially seeing Jimin’s eyes grow wide.

“Do you remember the little girl who called me a fairy?”

“No. But I remember her dad. Pale skin, blonde hair, hot as fuck.”

“Kim Taehyung!”

“Yeah yeah we are at work,” Taehyung shrugs off since they are the only two there. “What about her?”

“Well actually it was her dad. I ran into him getting coffee,” Jimin explains, shoving his bag into a locker and avoiding Taehyung’s likely smug gaze.

“Ooh hot dad got you hot and bothered?” Taehyung teases, poking the blush on Jimin’s cheek.

“Stop it!” Jimin swatted Taehyung's hand away while the other laughed.

“Did he get flirty?”

“No. But you were right about no wife.”

“And how did you come to that conclusion? Were you flirting?”

“No no no I asked if his daughter was with mom and there is no mom in the picture. His words,” Jimin explains.

“And how does that make you feel?”

“Why would I feel anything about it?”

“Jimin you clearly are! You’re so flushed that someone might think you’re unwell.”

“Good thing we’re in a hospital.”

“Ha ha so funny. Did you at least get his number?”

“Of course not!”

“And why not?”

“I’m his daughter’s nurse.”

“You were for a one-time visit.”

“I’m not picking up dates at work.”

“Well you could have at the coffee shop.”

“You’re impossible,” Jimin resigns, grabbing the last of his needs to start his shift.

“You’re the one being impossible. Maybe you were meant to bump into him again. The universe wants it to be,” Taehyung theorizes as he follows Jimin to the pediatric wing.

“You’re projecting your views onto the universe.”

“You’re so stubborn. Here make me a deal,” Taehyung says, jogging to block Jimin from walking further. “If you run into him again, outside of work, you get his number.”

“Tae…”

“Come on Jiminie. Either the universe decides you need a hot dad in your life or it doesn’t. And it is just a phone number,” Taehyung continues.

“Fine. Only so you’ll drop this so we can work,” Jimin sighs, making Taehyung clap giddily as they continue walking.

“Jiminie’s gonna get laid!”

“Yah stop it!”

“Okay okay,” Taehyung surrenders, a big boxy smile on his face which makes Jimin roll his eyes.

Would Jimin like to see Eunji’s dad again? Sure. But he wasn’t going to hold out hope for it.

--

“Appa I wanna ride the swings!”

“Okay sweetheart,” Yoongi answers, so endeared by his five-year-old he could never say no to her sweet voice making such a request. She eagerly pulls him towards the swings, climbing into the seat and waiting for him to push her.

“Higher appa!” she squeals, giggling as she swings back and forth, getting only marginally higher to appease her but low enough to not freak out Yoongi, who admittedly was easily stressed when it came to Eunji.

“Appa! Appa!”

“What is it? What’s wrong?” Yoongi questions, forcing the swing to a stop which is when Eunji hops off and starts running. “Eunji no!”

He rushes past other parents to get to his surprisingly quick daughter, not paying attention to where she was hurrying off to but just trying to get to her.

“Eunji!” Yoongi called, snatching his daughter up with a huff, slightly out of breath from the sudden exertion.

“Mr. Fairy!” she calls out, squirming in her father’s arms. Yoongi snapped his head to the side to see Jimin having looked over, looking as surprised as he felt. The pink-haired man excused himself from his friend before heading over, and now Yoongi’s heart was racing for a whole new reason.

“Hi Miss Eunji,” Jimin says with a smile to the girl.

“You remember me?” she asks, stars in her eyes. “Appa he remembers me!”

“Yes he does sweetheart. You shouldn’t have run off on me though,” Yoongi says, frazzled by all the events occurring.

“Did she really?” Jimin questions, continuing before Yoongi really answers. “Miss Eunji, you shouldn’t worry your appa like that.”

“Sorry appa,” Eunji says with a pout, hugging her dad in apology which immediately melts Yoongi’s heart.

“Apology accepted,” Yoongi says, kissing her on the cheek before setting her down. “I’m sorry.”

“Why are you apologizing?” Jimin questions.

“Because my five-year-old got too excited and pulled you away from... whatever it was you were doing,” Yoongi explains, finally properly taking in the man who was in a simple tank top and joggers with a yoga mat strapped to his back. “What were you doing?”

“Yoga in the Park. Happens every Saturday and just finished,” Jimin explains. “And you don’t have to apologize. I really don’t mind honestly.”

“Appa, can Mr. Fairy come with us?” Eunji asks, tugging on her dad’s hand to get his attention.

“Come where?” Jimin questions as Yoongi feels his face flush.

“Appa promised me ice cream!” Eunji says excitedly. “Do fairies eat ice cream?”

“Oh,” Jimin chuckles a little awkwardly. “Um, is it okay with your dad?”

“Right, throw it on me,” Yoongi jokes, getting a laugh from the nurse. “You are aware she is a menace who knows all my weak spots right?”

“Pleeeeeeeeeease appa! Please please please!”

“See,” Yoongi says, pointing at the little girl with a big pout and even bigger eyes. Jimin laughs brighter which makes Yoongi smile, so he turns to his daughter and says, “It’s fine with me but you’ll have to convince him.”

“Oh no you didn’t,” Jimin laughs. Eunji promptly switches her attention to him, tugging his hand and looking up with eyes very similar to her father’s. “Okay okay I’ll come.”

“Yay!” Eunji cheers in victory, grabbing Jimin’s hand and Yoongi’s hand to lead them.

“Sorry,” Yoongi chuckles.

“It’s fine,” Jimin replies with a soft smile. Eunji proceeds to interrogate him about life as a fairy, much like Yoongi had warned a few weeks prior. He does his best to answer both honestly and with some whimsy, distracted by the sweet girl to the point he doesn’t notice the endeared gaze he is receiving from the father.

--

“Can I ask a potentially awkward question?” Jimin asks. The trio arrived at a small ice cream shop near the park with the Mins sharing a dish while Jimin enjoys his own cup that Yoongi insisted on getting him.

“Sure,” Yoongi answers, eyeing Eunji to find her way too distracted by her dessert.

“How did you become a single dad?”

“You’re assuming I’m single.”

Yoongi looks over to see the horror on Jimin’s face and immediately starts laughing, unable to hold back after his joke.

“I’m joking! Oh my god your face though!

“Stop it!” Jimin whines, shoving Yoongi slightly as a smile creeps up and his cheeks tinge pink.

“Sorry. Just had to take the opportunity,” Yoongi chuckles his last laughs. “To actually answer your question, I’ve just always been one. Nayeon didn’t want to be a parent, which I don’t really blame her since this wasn’t exactly planned.”

“Were you young?” Jimin asks, blushing immediately at the question. “I phrased that poorly. I’m not saying you’re old or anything.”

“I get it,” Yoongi chuckles. “I was twenty-two when she was born. Which I believe qualifies as young.”

“So you’re twenty-seven now?”

Yoongi nods, grabbing a napkin to clean Eunji’s ice cream covered face somewhat before she continues digging in. “You?”

“Twenty-four. Well for two more weeks.”

“Birthday coming up?” Yoongi questions, looking over to the younger who nods.

“I’ll be working the whole day.”

“That’s unfortunate.”

“Only if you hate your job, which I don’t.”

“As the fairy or the nurse?” Yoongi asks, earning a quiet chuckle from the younger.

“Both.”

“What made you become a nurse?” Yoongi asks.

“I wanted to help people. Kids specifically,” Jimin explains, looking fondly at Eunji for a moment. “And I was decent at math and science so going into healthcare felt like the best move.”

“And was it?”

“Yeah, I’d say so,” Jimin answers with a soft smile. “It’s hard of course. Long hours on my feet, seeing unwell kids, asshole parents.”

Yoongi barks a laugh at that which makes Jimin chuckle himself. “So I’m an asshole parent?”

“No. Definitely not an asshole parent,” Jimin assures. A blush creeps to Yoongi’s cheeks, making him avert his gaze to see his daughter looking particularly sleepy.

“I should probably get her home,” Yoongi says then, pushing his chair back to stand and pick up his daughter who hugs him instinctively.

“Yeah right of course,” Jimin replies, getting up as well and feeling very awkward. As they head out he remembers Taehyung’s deal and how he will never hear the end of it if he doesn’t follow through.

“Hey Yoongi-ssi,” Jimin says just as they were going to part ways.

“Yeah?” the blonde questions, quirking an eyebrow at him in curiosity.

“I was just wondering if maybe you’d want to trade phone numbers,” Jimin says, nervously chewing his bottom lip after as he stares down at the sidewalk.

“Oh,” Yoongi says, taken aback at the request. “Really?”

“Yeah,” Jimin answers softly. “It’s fine if you don’t-”

“Sure,” Yoongi cuts him off, heart racing a little at this exchange. Jimin snaps his head up and blinks at him in surprise and Yoongi can’t help but lightly laugh at the expression. “What? Did you expect me to say no?”

“I didn’t have expectations,” Jimin mutters.

“Here,” Yoongi says, managing to pull out his phone and unlock it to hand to Jimin while carrying the napping child. Jimin enters his details and hands the phone back with a tiny smirk. Yoongi peaks at the contact and laughs, shaking his head as he pockets his phone. “Mr. Fairy? Really?”

“That way you know it’s really me,” Jimin reasons with a shrug.

“Goodbye Jimin,” Yoongi replies, turning to head back to where he parked.

“Bye,” Jimin replies quietly, feeling giddiness bubble inside him. He watches them go and sees Eunji blink open briefly and wave at him, so he waves back with a smile before turning himself and heading home.

--

“So you haven’t messaged him at all?”

“Not since that day no,” Yoongi answers, scratching out something in his notes to rewrite.

“And why not?” Namjoon, his best friend and colleague, questions.

“I’ve been busy,” Yoongi answers, despite knowing Namjoon would probe.

“With what exactly? You’ve been working on the same composition for months with the deadline so far off you could be doing nothing all day and still be fine.”

“I still have a daughter to take care of.”

“That is now school age and you can easily get a babysitter. I have volunteered multiple times and you can’t deny Eunji loves me.”

“She does,” Yoongi sighs, leaning back in his chair.

“So what is really stopping you?”

“We both know I don’t know how to date,” Yoongi answers honestly. “All I did was fuck around and that gave me a daughter, who I adore of course, but most people aren’t into dating a single dad who has done stupid shit to get where he is.”

“You’re being hard on yourself,” Namjoon counters. “Yeah you did some stupid shit, your main one having unprotected sex with someone you barely knew. But honestly that was a blessing in disguise cause you needed something to straighten you out. And sure, some people aren’t into someone with a kid. But Jimin is already aware of Eunji and he doesn’t seem turned off by her. So I think you’re overthinking it.”

“I am great at overthinking,” Yoongi jokes like it’s an accomplishment. “This still doesn’t help the fact I don’t know how to date. I don’t know how to woo someone.”

“Oh you want to woo him?”

“Maybe,” Yoongi mutters, turning back to the keyboard as if he’ll get back to work.

“You’re already whipped aren’t you?”

“I am not whipped. Just...he’s really good with Eunji. And she already adores him. Like after that park day and I tucked her into bed she asked if I’d marry him.”

“Seriously?”

“Yeah,” Yoongi sighs. “It was also the first time she referred to him by his actual name and not Mr. Fairy.”

“Isn’t that all a good thing?”

“Yeah but it still scares me. I just...I don’t want to fuck up and then break two hearts.”

“Assuming you even screw up enough to break two hearts,” Namjoon adds. “Look hyung you will never know if you don’t at least try. And take Eunji liking him as encouragement, since she would never steer you wrong.”

Yoongi sighs deeply, head dropping back as he stares at the ceiling. He’s been internally debating this for over a week, talking himself out of doing anything each time. But he keeps returning to wanting. And he wants to do it right.

“You serious? You’d babysit for me?” Yoongi asks.

“Of course hyung,” Namjoon affirms with a smile. “Uncle Joonie is available.”

Yoongi rolls his eyes with a soft chuckle, finally pulling his phone out to text Jimin. And then a better idea crosses his mind. So he eagerly types up his message and sends it, looking over at Namjoon’s curious stare of questioning.

“That was eager.”

“Well I didn’t exactly ask him out.”

“Then what was that?”

“I have a plan,” Yoongi answers, his phone buzzing in his hand with a response.

Yoongi :

Eunji wants to know your favorite flower.

She’s drawing

Jimin (Mr. Fairy) :

I’ll only tell you if you show me said drawing later.

Yoongi :

Of course. The artist insists.

“Smooth,” Namjoon teases, looking over Yoongi’s shoulder to spy on the conversation.

Jimin (Mr. Fairy):

I’m partial to peonies

Yoongi:

Noted

I’ll let the artist know

“What are you scheming?” Namjoon questions when Yoongi pockets his phone.

“Just going to go a little above and beyond,” Yoongi reasons.

“And you say you’re not whipped,” Namjoon teases, earning a punch in the arm.

“Hush and help me with this piece.”

With that, the pair go back to work on the music, although a nervous excitement buzzes quietly in the back of Yoongi’s mind throughout.

--

“Is it just me or are we twice as busy today?” Taehyung asks as he wanders into the nurses' station where Jimin is sitting, eating his lunch.

“Tell me about it,” Jimin mutters, scooping rice into his mouth.

“Happy birthday to you, have a ton of patients and extra whiny parents,” Taehyung teases, flopping down in the chair beside Jimin. “We’re still getting dinner tonight, yeah?”

“Of course. Wouldn’t miss making Jungkook buy me dinner for once,” Jimin teases, getting a laugh from his best friend.

“Excuse me,” a new voice asks from the doorway. “Are either of you Park Jimin?”

“That’s me,” Jimin answers, furrowing his brows in confusion.

“Perfect. These are for you,” the man at the door says, stepping inside just enough to hand Jimin a vase filled with blush pink peonies. “As well as this card.”

Jimin accepts both, thanking the man who simply smiles and leaves. Jimin eyes the beautiful flowers, so delicate and soft in color.

“Someone has an admirer,” Taehyung sing-songs to tease. “These are gorgeous though.”

“They are,” Jimin admits, still stunned as he trails a finger over the delicate petals.

“Well, are you going to open the card or not?”

Jimin had honestly forgotten he was holding a small envelope, finally pulling his gaze away to break the seal and pull out a simple birthday card. He opens it and a giant grin grows on his face. Inside the card is a drawing, clearly by a child, of some flowers with a fairy flying over them. There is also a handwritten note that makes Jimin blush the same shade as the peonies.

Jimin,

Happy birthday. I hope you enjoy the flowers.

Please let me know when you get them.

Yoongi

P.S. Eunji says “happy birthday Mr. Fairy!”

“Tae,” Jimin says softly, getting a little bit emotional at the sweet gesture. He hands the card to Taehyung who immediately smiles.

“He is a keeper. This is too precious,” Taehyung admits.

“He asked me like a week ago what my favorite flowers were, saying his daughter asked,” Jimin says, taking the card back and re-reading the message.

“Sneaky,” Taehyung chuckles. “Text him! Tell him you got the flowers.”

“Right,” Jimin says, setting the card aside and pulling his phone from his pocket. He opens his message with Yoongi but pauses, thinking for a moment before opening his camera app instead, moving so the flowers were in the shot as well and then sending the photo to the elder after careful examination.

Jimin :

Yoongi-ssi

Yoongi :

I see you got your flowers

And just call me hyung

Jimin :

Okay hyung

You didn’t have to do this

Yoongi :

I wanted to

I actually have something else

Jimin :

There is more?

Yoongi :

Yeah

Just a question

“Tae,” Jimin says hesitantly. “He says he has a question for me.”

“Please let it be him asking you out finally,” Taehyung pleads to the universe.

“He won’t do that. He doesn’t see me like that.”

Jimin :

Okay

What is it?

Yoongi :

I was wondering if you’d maybe want to go on a date with me.

“Oh,” Jimin mutters, eyes growing wide. “I was wrong.”

“Ha!” Taehyung cheers, jumping up from his seat excitedly. “You better say yes!”

“Tae calm down!” Jimin whisper-shouts, embarrassment coloring his cheeks.

“Why? I know you want to, so why beat around the bush about it?”

Jimin sighed because his best friend wasn’t wrong, but he wasn’t exactly prepared for this to happen at all, let alone on his birthday via a flower delivery. His phone buzzes again, reminding him he has yet to reply to the elder.

Yoongi :

Not tonight in case that was a concern

I assume you have birthday plans

And you don’t have to answer now

You’re probably busy working

Jimin :

Oh no I’m here

Sorry hyung

About your question

Yeah I’d like that

The date I mean

“You are both so awkward,” Taehyung teases, looking over Jimin’s shoulder to spy on the conversation. Jimin glares at him over his shoulder and then his phone buzzes again.

Yoongi :

Oh

Great!

I should let you go back to work now

And we can talk about it later

Jimin :

Okay hyung :)

“Happy birthday to you indeed,” Taehyung teases again, jumping away as Jimin tries to shove him. The smile on the latter’s face was undeniable though as he finishes his lunch admiring the beautiful flowers.

--

“How do I look?” Yoongi asks, wandering out into the living room where Namjoon was playing with Eunji.

“Good. Very date worthy,” Namjoon answers, eyeing the elder’s outfit. “Been a while since I’ve seen you dress like this.”

“That’s because it’s been over five years since I have,” Yoongi says, looking into a hall mirror to double check his hair having styled it off his forehead. “It’s not too much?”

“You’re in a white button-up and a blazer, how is that too much?”

“Appa where you goin?” Eunji asks, now having acknowledged the adults over her toys.

“Just meeting a friend, sweetheart.”

“Is it Jimin?” she asks and Namjoon fails to stifle a chuckle.

“Yes it’s with Jimin,” Yoongi answers, a blush creeping to his cheeks at his daughter’s uncanny awareness.

“Can I go? I wanna see him!”

“Not this time baby,” Yoongi turns down, using all of his willpower to resist her pout. “Maybe when we finish we’ll come back here and you can see him.”

Eunji lights up at that possibility and Namjoon quirks an eyebrow with a smirk, a suggestive look that Yoongi immediately corrects.

“Not like that!” Namjoon simply laughs at him which doesn’t aid in Yoongi’s blush from dissipating.

“Go. You’re going to be late,” Namjoon replies.

“Don’t hesitate to call if there is an issue.”

“Yes hyung.”

“And don’t let the pout deceive you.”

“I know”

“And-”

“Hyung, I know. I’ll take care of your baby girl and let you know if there are any issues,” Namjoon interrupts, aware that the elder’s orders are a nervous habit.

“Right yeah okay,” Yoongi mutters. He double-checks he has his necessities before kneeling to kiss the top of Eunji’s head in farewell and heading out to meet Jimin.

--

“I’m so nervous.”

“Why? You’ve been on dates before,” Taehyung points out on the other end of the call.

“It’s been a while though,” Jimin mumbles. He agreed to meet Yoongi at the restaurant and he was early, waiting outside and called Taehyung to help him calm down his nervousness.

“Is that really it? Or is it just because you really like this guy?”

“Jimin!” someone calls and Jimin can already tell it’s Yoongi by the voice.

“He’s here. I’ll talk to you later,” Jimin mutters into his phone, vaguely hearing Taehyung shout “You better!” before ending the call.

“Hi,” Jimin exhales as Yoongi approaches, feeling his face already flush as the elder eyes him.

“Hi,” Yoongi replies with a smile. “You look great.”

Jimin nervously ran a hand through his now faded hair, still just barely tinged pink. Jimin knew he looked good with the amount of effort he put into his look for this date, but hearing Yoongi say it makes his heart flip and blush deepen.

“Thanks. You do too,” Jimin manages, taking in the simple but very handsome appearance of his date. They stand there awkwardly for a moment before Yoongi gestures that they should enter the restaurant.

“I don’t think I’ve ever asked what you do for work,” Jimin muses after they are seated and have ordered.

“You haven’t,” Yoongi confirms. “I’m a composer.”

“Like movie soundtracks kind of composer?”

“Yeah. Or more often dramas.”

“Any I’ve heard of?”

“Probably not,” Yoongi answers. “Lots of smaller productions.”

“Try me,” Jimin challenges with a smile.

“Most recent was the drama Black Swan,” Yoongi relents easily, already finding it hard to deny Jimin.

“What? No way! I love that show!”

“Seriously?”

“Yeah! The soundtrack is so good too and that was you?!” Jimin asks, eyes bright with excitement.

“Yeah that’s me,” Yoongi answers, cheeks coloring pink at the attention. “Honestly really surprised you know that show.”

“Why? Cause I’m a nurse with little free time or something?”

“No, it’s a pretty small show on a small network. It’s not like mainstream at all.”

“I don’t think it’s as small as you think,” Jimin counters. “I make all my friends watch it. I like it that much.”

“Wow,” Yoongi replies.

“Yeah. I used to dance so I guess I connect to it since it’s about a dance company,” Jimin admits, becoming sheepish.

“You’d be a beautiful dancer,” Yoongi replies without thinking, watching the blush deepen on Jimin’s cheeks. “Why’d you stop?”

“Work is so busy. I’d never be able to be as consistent as I’d like,” Jimin answers. Yoongi nods in understanding and their food arrives. Conversation flowed smoothly as they ate, getting to know each other more and both failing to be discreet with their feelings.

“Oh sorry I should check this,” Yoongi says when his phone goes off, having just finished their meal. “In case it’s my sitter.”

“Of course hyung,” Jimin says with a smile. With a nod Yoongi checks his phone and is unable to stop his laugh at the message.

Namjoon:

Eunji has been lecturing me about fairies

And continuously saying she can’t wait to see Jimin

So your date better be going well cause she’s attached

“Here,” Yoongi says, handing his phone over to let Jimin read the message. As the younger does, a smile grows on his face.

“That’s so sweet,” Jimin says when he hands the phone back.

“Yeah. She likes you a lot.”

“I’m glad,” Jimin says softly with an equally soft expression. “Can I ask you something about her?”

“Sure,” Yoongi says carefully, a nervous energy buzzing in him then.

“You…” Jimin starts, pausing to think through his phrasing. “You said having Eunji wasn’t planned. What happened?”

“Ah,” Yoongi starts, having to some extent expected this question.

“Sorry if it’s awkward. You don’t have to tell me I’m just curious and wouldn’t judge,” Jimin stammers anxiously.

“Jimin, it’s fine,” Yoongi interrupts with a gentle smile. “I know you won’t judge and figured you’d ask eventually.”

“You still don’t have to-”

“I know,” Yoongi cuts off gently. “It’s not a very complex or interesting story anyway. I was an idiot kid who did stupid shit. That includes unprotected sex while mildly drunk.”

“Ah,” Jimin replies, not really sure what more to say.

“Definitely partied too much, thinking I was hot shit and unstoppable. But I had a major reality check once I found out I was having a kid.”

“Sounds a little rough.”

Yoongi shrugs before continuing. “It was necessary to be honest. Had to get my shit together so I could care for Eunji and that was for the best in the long run.”

“And her mom? You said not in the picture but what does that mean exactly?”

“She is completely gone. No contact, didn’t want to be a mother and was adamant about it. Gave me full custody and left. She wasn’t done partying and I had to beg her not to party while pregnant honestly.”

“Were you together?”

“No. Barely knew each other,” Yoongi answers. “Like I said, I was an idiot who made stupid choices. But I’m not upset at where I am in life.”

“So no regrets?” Jimin asks, eyeing the elder who is looking off to the side in thought.

“I definitely don’t regret Eunji. I do have some regrets for how she came to be, but I’d never give her up for anything.”

“You’re a good dad. I hope you know that,” Jimin says with a reassuring smile.

“I try to be,” Yoongi sighs. “Speaking of Eunji, she did want to see you. So if you’re okay with that-”

“Sure,” Jimin answers immediately with a radiant smile. Yoongi returns the smile and they depart the restaurant with Yoongi sending a quick message to Namjoon as a heads up.

It’s not a long drive to Yoongi’s apartment, with Jimin peacefully humming along to the music which Yoongi finds soothing. He parks and they head up side by side with Yoongi entering first and holding the door open for the younger.

“Jimin!” Eunji cheers upon seeing him, awkwardly scrambling off the couch to run over to him.

“Hi!” Jimin replies, squatting down and holding his arms open to accept the little girl’s hug. She flops into his arms with a giggle that makes Jimin giggle in return and Yoongi watches the scene with fondness.

“Hey,” Namjoon says, having gotten up from the couch to follow the girl. “You must be Jimin. I’m Namjoon.”

“Nice to meet you,” Jimin says, picking Eunji up when she clearly won’t let go so he can properly face Namjoon.

“I take it my job is done for the night?” Namjoon questions with a gentle smile.

“Yeah. Thanks Joon-ah,” Yoongi answers.

“No problem hyung,” Namjoon assures. He says a farewell to Jimin and Eunji before heading out and leaving them behind.

“Appa, can Jimin play for a while?” Eunji asks when Jimin sets her down, already giving him puppy dog eyes.

“If he wants to, sure,” Yoongi answers, looking over to Jimin with a gentle pleading because even he doesn’t want the younger to leave just yet.

“Sure,” Jimin answers with a big smile to Yoongi. Eunji squeals with joy and then tugs Jimin to follow her to the living room.

Yoongi watches from afar fondly as Eunji hands Jimin some toys so they can play and the latter easily takes them and assimilates into her playtime like he has done it many times before. The elder is in an endeared trance and is caught off guard when Jimin suddenly looks up at him.

“What?” Yoongi asks, now noticing his daughter is looking at him.

“Come play appa!” Eunji says, having to repeat her request to the unsuspecting elder. Yoongi does, feeling a bit flushed from being caught staring, but Jimin is doing the same to him now.

It is obvious that Yoongi is physically attractive, but what Jimin finds most attractive is how he interacts with his daughter. The elder has a seemingly tough and cold appearance from the outside, but it is immediately evident that he is rather soft and patient when with the little girl. And Jimin wants to be able to experience that soft nature more often.

“Okay sweetheart, it's bedtime,” Yoongi announces, having already let her stay up later since Jimin was there.

“But I’m not tired,” she says, a yawn interrupting her last word and betraying her in the process.

“Nice try,” Yoongi chuckles. He stands and encourages Eunji to do the same with Jimin standing last.

“Want Jimin to come,” Eunji slurs sleepily and Jimin admittedly feels his heart warm substantially with that and when the five-year-old takes his hand. He lets her guide him to her room, a simple white room with pastel accents and the Kumamon plush sitting against the pillows of her bed.

Yoongi does the actual work of putting her to bed, with Jimin just giving her a hug and wishing her a good night as she already starts to drift off.

“Sorry,” Yoongi mutters after they leave the girl’s room and are alone again.

“Stop apologizing,” Jimin says sweetly. “I really don’t mind. I even enjoy it.”

“Really?”

“Of course. Do you really think I’d willingly agree to things she wants if I didn’t want to do them myself?”

“You could just be being polite,” Yoongi mutters, looking away from the younger until Jimin gently cups his face to guide it back to look at him.

“Are you worried that I won’t want to be around because you’re a dad?” Jimin questions gently. “Because that’s not the case at all.”

“I’m not good at dating,” Yoongi admits, getting lost in the patient and caring gaze of the younger. “Let alone as a dad.”

“Could have fooled me,” Jimin chuckles lightly, dropping his hand and Yoongi misses the delicate touch already.

“I wanted to impress you,” Yoongi continues, probably being too honest for a first date but he can’t help it.

“I’d say you succeeded. But do you want to know what I find the most impressive?” Yoongi just nods so Jimin continues. “How good of a dad you are. How gentle and patient you are. And how much you clearly love Eunji.”

“She’s my world,” Yoongi says softly and with obvious sincerity.

“I can see why,” Jimin says with a smile. “I do hope she is willing to share.”

Yoongi blinks at the younger, processing what he just said and feeling a bit dumbfounded at it.

“She’s good with sharing with people she likes,” Yoongi answers eventually, surveying the younger’s reaction. “I think you fall into that category.”

Jimin laughs lightly, shaking his head slightly which makes some of his hair fall into his face. Yoongi instinctively reaches out to tuck the stray strands behind Jimin’s ear and the younger’s cheeks blush as he smiles at the gentle action.

“Are you willing to share though?” Jimin asks.

“Share what exactly?”

“You.”

Yoongi feels his face flush, locking eyes with Jimin and letting the soft smile grow on his face.

“Yeah. If you’re willing to share too.”

Jimin smiles brightly, reaching his eyes that crescent with it and Yoongi can easily define that as his favorite expression on the younger. Jimin closes the distance then, wrapping his arms around the elder’s neck in a hug while Yoongi hugs him back around the waist.

“I really like you hyung,” Jimin whispers next to Yoongi’s ear, feeling when Yoongi’s cheek rises from his smile growing.

“I really like you too,” Yoongi says back softly. "I liked you from the moment I met you."

Jimin pulls his head back to look Yoongi in the eye, finding a brilliant gummy smile that he’d define as the best expression the elder has ever had.  They mutually close the distance, softly connecting their lips in a tender kiss that is nothing but sweet and special. Their lips move in gentle tandem, neither deepening from the sweetness of it.

--

“Are you going to cry?”

“Don’t tease me.”

Jimin giggles, linking his arm with Yoongi’s as they wait for the ceremony to begin.

“She’s all grown up now,” Yoongi muses.

“It’s her kindergarten graduation.”

“Still. My baby girl isn’t a baby anymore.”

“She’ll always be your baby,” Jimin assures, resting his head on the elder’s shoulder for a moment. The music begins to indicate the start of the festivities, so they both turn their attention to the stage.

Jimin and Yoongi have officially been together for seven months with it being surprisingly easy to blend their lives together. It helped that Eunji adored Jimin before they even became official, so Yoongi never had to worry if his daughter would be okay with the new addition to their lives. The biggest hurdles were finding time for one another, but they made it work.

“There she is,” Yoongi whispers, as if Jimin couldn’t immediately identify the little Min on sight. She happily walked across the stage in her small cap and gown, the tassel swinging side to side with her steps.

The rest of the ceremony flew by and soon enough it ended, letting the kids free to find their parents amongst the small crowd.

“Appa!” Eunji shouts, running up to the couple with a big gummy smile just like her dad’s.

“There’s my baby,” Yoongi says, sweeping her up into a tight hug as she giggles wildly. “I’m so proud of you.”

“I love you appa.”

“I love you too,” Yoongi replies softly with a smile, squeezing her in the hug.

“Appa I wanna hug daddy,” Eunji says, squirming in her father’s tight hold with a laugh. Both adults freeze, staring wide-eyed at each other.

“Who?” Yoongi questions, looking between Eunji and Jimin in confusion.

“Daddy!” she declares, twisting to make grabby hands at Jimin. Jimin blinks at her with wide eyes, going glassy with tears as a wave of emotions washes over him. He wordlessly reaches to take Eunji as Yoongi lets her free, baffled at the events taking place.

“I love you daddy,” Eunji says sweetly, bursting the dam of Jimin’s resolve to not cry. He squeezes the little girl tightly as tears roll down his cheeks.

“I love you too,” Jimin musters.

Yoongi’s heart nearly bursts with Jimin saying that, feeling his own emotions catch up to him. He moves to hug both of them, squeezing his two loves closely.

Eunji eventually wiggles wanting to get free and talk to her teacher, so Jimin sets her down and the couple watches her toddle off in silence.

“Baby why are you crying?” Yoongi asks softly, cradling the younger’s face in his hands as he wipes the tears from Jimin’s face.

“You heard her,” Jimin mumbles.

“Are these happy tears at least?”

“Of course they are! Hyung I...I love you both so much.”

“I love you too Jimin,” Yoongi says quietly, watching Jimin’s eyes sparkly happily with his loving gaze. “I love you so much.”

Jimin smiled widely before surging into a kiss, arms wrapping around the elder’s neck to pull him closer. Yoongi is startled for a moment before kissing back, hands on Jimin’s waist. They end up giggling out of the kiss, eyes full of love for each other.

“Appa, can we get ice cream!” Eunji interrupts, either oblivious to their moment or ignoring it completely.

“I don’t know. Why don’t you ask Jimin,” Yoongi prompts, stepping back from Jimin’s hold.

“Daddy can we pleeeeeeease?” Eunji asks exaggeratedly, pouting fiercely with big, pleading eyes.

“Of course we can sweetheart,” Jimin agrees easily. “Appa is paying though.”

Yoongi barks a laugh as Eunji cheers, eagerly grabbing their hands and tugging them for the door, a little family so full of love.
