Chapter Text
Luffy could barely contain his excitement as a new island lay before the crew. With a whoop of enthusiasm, he looped his arms around the mast of the Merry and used it as a slingshot to send him onto the sand. With an angry yell from Nami, a jealous one from Chopper and Usopp, and an eyeroll from Zoro, Luffy began running down the crystal clear beach. The crew has only stopped because Sanji said they needed more produce (for free Nami might add) and some fresh water. So after finding a suitable island, the rest of the crew disembarked and began to make camp.
Running after a literal monkey, Luffy tried imitating it by scratching his ass and making random noises, trying to imitate the animal. This just aggravated the monkey who chucked a coconut and smucked Luffy square in the head, before it disappeared into the lush jungle twixt to the beach. A hand rubbing the sore spot on his head, Luffy now surveyed the scene before him. It appeared to be a shipwreck of some sort, dark wood strewn across the beach. Further inspecting the wreckage he found a...lady? She was passed out, facedown in the sand, only accompanied by the backpack on her shoulders.
This girl was you. Currently unconscious, Luffy picked up a big stick and started poking your side. After no reaction was elicited, Luffy cupped his hands around his mouth and yelled out to the crew, who was approaching him slowly.
“Hey guys!!! I think I found a dead body!” Luffy called out in far too much excitement.
Quickly surveying the scene, the crew grew increasingly worried. Seeing the form of a female limp on the beach, Sanji dropped whatever gear he was carrying and bolted like his life depended on it. Approaching your form, Sanji gingerly removed the backpack and turned you over, his ear pressed against your partially exposed chest. Upon hearing a dull thrum and seeing a good deal of blood and injuries, his eyes wide in shock.
“Chopper, she’s alive! Barely but...help this beautiful girl!”
Nami and Chopper ran up to set up a makeshift bed while Sanji carefully laid your sleeping form on it. A groan rolled deep from your chest as you were laid down, followed closely by you shooting into an upright position, coughing up large amounts of seawater. Gently rubbing your back, Chopper helped calm your fit, instructing Sanji to hold you in an upright position. Sanji wiped the excess water off your chin, Chopper tending to your other various, and fairly deep wounds.
Nami took it upon herself to drag Usopp and Zoro off so they could quickly find water and food, trying to be of some use to the crew. Luffy and Robin watched from a distance, the lovable idiot of a captain scratching his head in confusion.
“Huh, I guess she’s not dead?”
“It appears not,” Robin replied, almost full of disappointment.
It took awhile for Nami and the boys to come back, dusk quickly approaching. Luffy had been forced by Sanji to help set up camp and the fire, Chopper just finished tending to your wounds. With a shaky smile, you thanked him deeply for being such a capable doctor. It reminded you of someone else. But your thoughts were pulled from you as Luffy began to complain about the lack of food, Sanji yelling at him to just wait a damn minute because Nami surely found some food.
Coming back to the rest of the crew, Zoro had snagged a few deer, Usopp a barrel of consumable water, and Nami some fruit and herbs. Handing the haul off to Sanji, Nami plopped herself down next to you, a warm smile on her face seeing that you were now sitting up, wrapped in Sanji’s coat.
“Sorry about leaving you with my crazy captain,” Nami said, laughing a little.
Shaking your head, you told her how grateful you were for him finding you and Chopper saving your life. Truth be told, it reminded you that you were the only stranger here and that their captain, apparently named Luffy, was now staring at you intently. The hair on the back of your neck bristled at the almost dead-looking eyes staring into your soul. Sliding your hand down to your waistband, you gripped the handle of your trusty knife, aimed and ready to slash his throat at a moment’s notice.
Though Zoro had his eyes closed, he sensed the action. Slapping a hand on your back, he leaned over your shoulder.
“Don’t worry, the idiot doesn’t want to hurt you. He just wants to know your name and why you were on the beach alone.”
Oh. That thought had not crossed your mind. Had you really forgotten to introduce yourself? Apparently. Walking over to Luffy, you plopped in front of him, stealing Sanji’s cigarette in the process. Taking a long drag and feeling the nicotine seep into your aching bones, you finally relaxed.
“My name is Y/n, it’s nice to officially meet you.”
“Meat? You have meat?!” Luffy’s hungry brain overrode his manners per usual.
“No, but your cook is almost done with dinner, so shut it.”
Almost on cue, Sanji plopped a bowl of food into Luffy’s hands, barely able to pull away before he dug into the meal. Taking a few more drags of the cigarette, you observed the crew as Sanji then handed the ginger and raven-haired girls their meals. Next he smiled and handed you yours.
“I’m Sanji, it’s nice to meet you, Y/n-chan~ Just ask for a cigarette next time though,” He said, lighting himself another one as he finished handing out the food.
After everyone had finished eating, you thought it was proper to explain the...circumstances you were in.
“Luffy,” you said, attracting his attention from joking with Usopp, “thanks for finding me. I wound up shipwrecked because I was on a life-dingy and a really bad storm hit. It’s a wonder I survived though, since I’m a Devil fruit user…” you mused the last part to yourself, not expecting Luffy to latch onto this.
“Ooh, ooh! What fruit did you eat?! I ate the Gum-Gum fruit!” he pulled at his face, stretching it and laughing at your baffled expression.
“I ate the Leo-Leo Frui--”
“THAT SOUNDS COOL JOIN MY CREW!!!” Luffy didn’t even give you time to finish the explanation.
“Oh, sure,” you replied, earning a look of shock from everyone else in the crew. Nami squared up and thumped both of you on your skulls. Snarling, your fangs came out into view and before you could yell at Nami, Luffy had grabbed ahold of your mouth. He marveled at the sharpness of them, earning himself a bite on the finger. Sucking on the bleeding appendage, he frowned.
Standing up, you put on full display what your Devil fruit was. A Zoan type, you could turn into a snow leopard. Paws, ears, a tail, whiskers, and fangs on display for the crew to see. Usopp howled in horror, Zoro looked mildly intrigued, Sanji swooned, and Luffy was the most intrigued. Turning back quickly, you grabbed the cigarette from Sanji, feeling relief as Luffy found some crab to focus on. Throwing Sanji back his jacket, you followed Nami and Robin to the beds, crawling into one.
Guess I found a crew full of weirdos, you thought to yourself. However, a small smile graced your lips. I had wanted to find my own crew someday, I really hope I can stay with them until the end… Everyone now in their respective beds, sleep overcame you all, the lull of the ocean aiding in much needed sleep.

Stretching your aching everything, you pried yourself from the makeshift bed. Most of the crew was still asleep, save for Sanji who was starting to prepare breakfast. Cursing the splint and bandages on your leg, you limped over, plopping yourself next to him. Much to his surprise, you started to help cook.
“Y/n-chan, you actually know how to cook!”
A small laugh escaped your lips as you cut the potatoes finely, with ease and precision. The blonde smiled and offered you a cigarette, knowing it was probably the only relief you were getting from your injuries. Gladly accepting it, he leaned in and lit it, flipping his lighter shut.
“I was going to say every sane person should know how to cook, but…” your eyes flickered over to the odd menagerie of crew members, retracting your statement. “I see that everyone has their own strengths.”
A laugh escaped Sanji as he fully agreed about that. Beginning to wake up to the smell of food, the crew started making their way over, each of them completing their own morning routine.
“So,” Sanji interjected, “what exactly are your strengths, Y/n-chan?”
Let’s see. Killing people, illegal dealings, nearly anything promiscuous and to deal with the underworld. That would be the best thing to tell your new crew member, definitely.
“I’m particularly good at collecting intel discretely and compiling it. I can cook, fight, swordplay, stuff like that.”
Suddenly, Zoro appeared and tossed you a sword, which you barely caught. A duel? You got that Zoro was the token swordsman of the group and probably, no, desperately needed a sparring partner. But you looked down at your injuries, grimacing a little.
“You dumbass moss-head! She’s injured and can’t spar!” Sanji screamed a little too loudly. You sheepishly smiled and handed Zoro his sword back, finishing your cigarette. Smiling, Chopper came over to check over your injuries briefly before breakfast was served. Somehow melding seamlessly into the Straw Hat routine, you joked around and tried to help clean up, to which Robin forbade. She gently pulled you along to the Going Merry, helping you get up with a flourish of her multiple hands.
Unfazed, you looked around, noting how quaint the ship was. Robin going first, she went downstairs to the girls’ bedroom, pulling out various pieces of paper. You quickly recognized the papers as the countless rubs and copies you had made of the Poneglyphs that you encountered along your travels. Pervious to the information that Robin could in fact read the dead language, your heart began to race. Noticing your excitement, Robin smiled warmly.
“I’m sure you can’t actually read the Poneglyphs, but I found it interesting that you had such a collection of copies.”
The Devil of Ohara, what luck that I found her. Knowing who Robin was, and the luck that you found her, excitement began to build within your core. Eyes wide and smile wide, you leaned over the table.
“I always wanted to find the end of the Grand Line, but I haven’t found any Road Poneglyphs. But...won’t these rubs help fill in the Hundred Year Void?”
“Yes,” Robin smiled, “These will definitely help give us a clue what happened.”
The next few hours, you and Robin went over the information within the rubs, compiling the true readings in your journal. Lost in your activities, you and Robin didn’t realize that the crew had gathered enough materials and food to supply the crew for quite awhile. Boarding the ship, everyone helped get the ship off to sail. Off to try and find the sky island, you stood on the deck of the ship and smiled, feeling excited and content with the new crew you had.
I’m so excited to go on adventures with people that actually care about me, you thought. I hope I can make you proud, Dad.
