Work Text:
“Are you ready, Y/N?” Ezio steadied himself as he climbed upon a building.
“I’ve been ready for a while,” you breathed in response, crouching beside him.
The night was chilly, and the moon had been shining particularly brightly. Firenze was peaceful, with only lovers taking country walks. Perhaps if you and your brother weren’t so eager to get vengeance for yourselves, you could have brought your mother and Claudia along to enjoy the evening.
But there was no time for that now.
“Take out these archers,” he told you. “I’ll open the gate.” From his tone and stance, you could tell he was slightly tense. You couldn’t blame him.
Your throwing knives met their target, and you began liberating the rest of the city from Templars as you ploughed through, eventually coming toward a wounded ally.
“Ezio! Y/N!” he cried. “Your Uncle is under attack and needs help! Go to him!”
Exchanging worried glances, you both took off sprinting to meet with Mario, hoping that it wasn’t too late. This, after all, wasn’t part of the plan.
You got to what looked like a market square, filled with Pazzi’s guards and your allies. Ezio followed behind you as you whipped out your sword, preventing a back blow to your uncle.
“Ah, nipotes! There you are! It seems my plan has hit something of a snag. Vieri’s men ambushed us and now we’ve got our hands full.” Mario impaled his opponent on his sword. “My brothers and I will deal with these guards. I want you both to go on ahead and root out that snake!”
Immediately, you complied. You and Ezio took off running and clambered up a building, away from the fighting to find your most hated acquaintance.
You never did forgive him for throwing that rock.
Ezio stood atop a roof overlooking the eastern gate. You stood a little ways behind him. Vieri came in with Rodrigo Boriga and a few others, but it was Vieri who made Ezio’s muscles tense. He listened to the conversation with an indifferent expression, bar the murderous glare he was shooting Vieri.
“He’s always been trouble. Just like that bastardo brother of his.”
“Then let me reunite them, father!”
Ezio had to physically hold you back before you could give away their position. “Smettere!” he breathed sharply. “Wait.”
“May the Father of Understanding guide you!” they chorused before breaking up, splitting to fulfil their duties. As they left, one of his allies came up and notified him of Mario’s actions.
He laughed. “Then let’s not keep him waiting.”
“Go!” The two of you sprinted to the top of the tower where Vieri had headed, not caring who you ran past in order to do so.
“Ah, the Auditore twins! I’ve been looking forward to this for a long, long time.” Of course, he wasn’t alone, but these were three of the most skilled guards you’ve ever met. They wouldn’t die, and it frustrated you.
“You know, sometimes I wish that they would have taken your sister too. She’s becoming very difficult.” Vieri sneered these words at you as you clashed, although they were directed at Ezio, who was occupied with the last remaining guard; the others were dead.
“Fottiti, Vieri!” In response, he blocked your high strike unexpectedly fast and thrust his sword into the side of your waist. You yelped, frozen to the spot.
“Y/N!” Ezio’s sword acted as a barrier, stopping Vieri’s blade from finishing you off. As Ezio took matters into his own hands, you slumped onto your knees, tapping out.
It only managed to pierce through your flesh, and for that you were grateful, but it was still oozing mass amounts of blood, and before you knew it, Ezio and Mario were both kneeling over you, Vieri dead at their feet.
“Y/N.” Ezio placed pressure onto the wound with one hand, using the other to try and undo his cape. His fingers fumbled with the straps, but soon yanked it off and wrapped the cloth around the wound. A small, strangled cry left your lips as he pulled the knot, hard.
“It’s alright, nipote,” Mario soothed, cradling your head in his lap. “It’s alright.”
“We need to get her a doctor, Uncle!” Ezio’s tone screamed panic. “Dobbiamo andare ora!” Standing up, he began to pace.
He also began to blurt fluent Italian.
“Calm down, Ezio!” Mario’s hand was pressed firmly around your wound. Ezio took a few deep breaths, although reluctantly, and came towards you again, swiftly gathering you into his arms. You gasped as you rocked onto your injury.
“Mi diaspace,” Ezio apologised in a rush.
“It’s–” you hiccuped. “Fine.”
And you knew it would be fine, because you had your family to pull you through it.
