Dreams that guide me home

Summary:

Ever since Kara was a little girl, she had dreams about a beautiful woman with emerald green eyes.

It first happened on Kara’s 10th birthday. She woke up with a smile on her face. For the first time she had dreamed about a beautiful, mesmerizing brunette who was in love with a blonde.
From that year she dreamed of this woman on every birthday and somehow, she knew she had to find this woman. Had to move hell and heaven to find the beautiful brunette who appeared to be her soulmate.

Chapter 1-4 contains Genderbending where I turn an historic important man into a woman.

Notes:

Notes: Hades and Persephone are Greek gods, that are supposedly living in an unhappy relationship aka Hades kidnapped Persephone to force her to live with him. In this Chapter however it might have started that way but Persephone over time fell in love with Hades. Also, Hades is female here, I think that kind of counts as genderbending. If you are uncomfortable with this please skip the dream that is written in italic.

Also, English is not my first language, so bear with my mistakes. kudos and comments are welcome :)

Disclaimer:I’m just borrowing the characters for some words ☺

Chapter Text

She walked across the fields of her parents’ farm. The golden color of her hair almost the same as the sun shining down on her. She knew that once she leaves these fields and crosses the border of their farm, darkness would wait for her. She knew she wouldn't get to see the sun for six months, so she wanted to enjoy it as much as possible. When she came to a halt in the middle of said fields, she felt someone stopping beside her.

“Are you ready Persephone?”

“Tell me Hades, how will I ever be ready to not see the sun, as I live for it?” Persephone answered.

“I know you miss it whenever you are in my world, but you know it's part of the deal,” Hades answered.

“A deal that was made without me having all the info,” Persephone pointed out.

“I’m sorry, you know I never wanted to keep it from you,” Hades replied.

“I know I know, Zeus wanted you to do it,” she replied as Hades reached out to for her hand. Persephone let the God of the underworld hold it and entwined their fingers. She looked at the brunette beside her, “I know you are sorry Hades.”

The brunette lifted her eyes to look at the other woman, “you know how my brother is like.”

“We should get going,” Persephone said. She let go of the beautiful brunettes’ hand and started to walk further. Once she reached the border of their land, she looked at the brunette again.

“Take me with you?” Persephone asked.

“Yes, my love,” Hades said and slowly stepped over the invisible threshold before offering her hand to the blonde.

Persephone stepped over the line and immediately the world around her turned dark. The smell of smoke suddenly filled her nostrils. The first time she went to the underworld she puked the second she smelled death. It's different compared to her world. Death smells stronger in the underworld more permanent somehow. Meanwhile she was used to the smell- She nuzzled Hades’ neck however and smelled her hair. It always calmed her down to smell the brunette’s scent.

Unlike all expectations Hades did not smell like death she smelled like a mixture between flowers, honey, and herbs. She smelled like Persephone imagined life would smell. However, one could only smell the distinctive smell of Hades when smelling her hair or her skin. Persephone first realized that when she broke through the layer of smoke always surrounding Hades and kissed her the first time.

That day when they had first kissed was a quiet day in the underworld. She and Hades had strolled through the various areas and watched soldiers fight for glory even in their death. Eventually Hades had reached out for her hand and smiled timidly.

“Is that okay?” She asked.

“More than okay Hades,” Persephone answered and leaned against the brunette a little more.

“You know, after all the stories Zeus told me about you and after all the stories, I heard on the streets I never expected you to be like this,” Persephone admitted.

“How did you expect me to be?”

“More rough, more brutal, but here I am strolling with you holing your soft hands and you’re not like that at all. You’re not a god who tortures others quite the opposite you help them pay for the ferrymen, you help them get closure. You are way more kind than Zeus to be honest,” Persephone said and stroke the brunettes face. Hades looked at the blonde a little fear in her eyes. Persephone chose to ignore it and leaned in to press her lips softly against the other woman.

It got harder and harder for Persephone to leave the underworld after that kiss. Hades lovely character did not help that either but the love for the sun always made her crave the upper world more than staying with her lover.

Persephone however did not know when things had changed for her, when instead of dreading to go with Hades she now dreaded of being without her. When the need for sun became less important than her need for Hades. Maybe it was the tender touches she and Hades changed or when even in the darkest nights a flower would appear in the ashes of her fireplace. She knew Hades thought of her and it made her heart flutter. She knew for a long time that she loved the brunette and Hades proofed her day in day out that she felt the same way. She didn’t expect that part of her was considering not coming back to the upper world but rather stay in the underworld with her brunette lover.

The day Persephone was walking around the fields a year later she was ready for Hades, was kind of waiting for her at close to the border of her land, so when the brunette finally appeared in a cloud made of smoke Persephone jumped inside before the smoke was fully gone. She kissed the brunette fiercely before she reached for the other woman’s hand.

“Take me home?” Persephone asked. It did not slip Hades mind that instead of with you she said home. It made her smile knowing that Persephone did not see the underworld as something bad anymore but rather as her home.

“Whatever you want my love,” she answered and kissed the blonde’s hand before pulling her slowly over the threshold.

“I have a surprise for you Persephone,” Hades said as they arrived in the underworld.

“Go to our residence and you'll see. If you want to, I can come with you,” Hades offered.

“What did you do this time love?” Persephone asked softly and placed her hand on the brunette’s cheek.

They walked to their residence their fingers entwined occasionally stepping over a tortured soul waiting for the ferry men to take them out of the underworld.

“Close your eyes my love,” the brunette asked Persephone. She did as she was told and closed her eyes. As Hades opened the door Persephone could feel a warmth on her skin that she hasn't felt in the underworld before. “You may open your eyes,” Hades said. Persephone opened her eyes and saw the sun shining brightly in the room in front of her.

“My love how did you create this?” Persephone asked her lover.

“I am a god after all and I couldn't bear to see you sad anymore. I know how much it hurts you to leave your world. So, I created you your own paradise, welcome to Elysium,” Hades said and opened the door further for her lover to enter her Elysium.

“Thank you, my love,” Persephone said and turned around to kiss her lover.

“I know you weren't happy when I first brought you here so I thought you should be able to see and feel the sun whenever you're here with me,” Hades explained.

Persephone entered her Elysium and tried to pull the brunette along with her, but Hades stood right there not moving at all.

“I can’t enter Elysium, that is part of the new deal,” Hades said.

“Did you work with Zeus again?” Persephone asked lowering her head.

“No, my love, he can't create something as beautiful as this, apart from you of course. I worked with your mother Demeter; she saw that all I wanted to do was making you happy. But her request was, that I couldn't ever enter this realm,” she said. Persephone immediately stepped out of the room again and into Hades arms, “never would I want to be somewhere you can't. Being up there is hard enough without you and all I missed down here is seeing the sun. So, I am okay on this side of the door,” Persephone said and kissed her lover once more.

“Good morning sunshine,” Kara was ripped out of her dream by her mother's voice.

“Mom,” she complained and went back under her pillow to go back to her dream.

“Come on sweetheart it's your tenth birthday, let us celebrate,” she said and Kelex placed the cake beside her bed.

“Good morning Kara Zor-El,” the robot said. Kara wanted to go back to her dream, she wanted so bad to get back to the feeling of love she's never felt before. Wanted to go back to see these Emerald green eyes, the most beautiful eyes she's ever seen. But she knew that wasn't how her birthdays were, once she was woken up by her mother she wasn't allowed to go back to sleep. So, she knew the only thing she could do was hope that she would dream about this mesmerizing green eyes again.

“Mom have you ever heard the names Persephone and Hades?” Kara asked her mother as she was eating the first piece of cake in her bed.

"No sweetheart I haven't," Alura said.

"Hades was the God of the underworld in the Greek mythology from a planet called earth," Kelex said in its slightly robotic voice.

Kara was suddenly wide awake and looked at Kelex for more information.

"Persephone was Zeus daughter, Zeus was king of the gods on Mount Olympus," Kelex continued.

“Also, Hades had kidnapped Persephone one day and Zeus fought him for her. Eventually they settled on a deal which would allow Persephone to live partly on earth and partly in the underworld.”

“Hades would never do that to Persephone. She loved her,” Kara replied crossing her arms in front of her.

"Where have you heard these names?" Alura asked her daughter.

"I had a dream about them. Hades was really beautiful," Kara replied.

"Hades was shown in many forms, but none of the forms were seen as beautiful by humans," Kelex interjected.

"But she was," Kara demanded in a childish demeanor.

"Hades was also never portrait as a woman," Kelex continued.

"Maybe your stories are wrong," Kara protested and puffed her chest.

"Maybe your dream was," Alura said softly.

"No," Kara answered crying. Her dream had to be real, it couldn't be that these feelings she felt were just her imagination.

"There might be another explanation too. In the Greek mythology most of the famous evil gods are portrayed as male except Nemesis and very few others. It could however be, that for the Greeks back then it was not imaginable that a woman could be the God of the underworld," Kelex offered.

"That must be it," Alura replied pulling her crying kid closer to herself. Kara stopped crying after a while and enjoyed her birthday with her friends and family.
