Work Text:

Quinn was already regretting her decision. Why did she think this was a good idea? She should turn her back and run back to the metro station while she still had the chance.

But no, not this time. She had made a promise to herself that this time she wasn't chickening out. Wasn't avoiding this for three years in high school enough? She had to do it and it had to be now.

She knocked on the door in front of her and a tall guy with a surprised face received her.

"Quinn?" Kurt exclaimed, "What are you doing here? God, it has been months since the last time i saw you, how is everything?"

Quinn smiled and hugged him, then she entered the New York loft where Kurt and Rachel lived together.

"I bought this ticket before we ended high school to come and visit... It's just that I've missed everyone and everything so much. Well," Quinn flushed a bit and kept her stare on the floor "actually I haven't missed everything. I haven't missed the boys at all" she shaked her head and retracted. "I didn't mean it in the way that I don't miss you or Finn or Sam... As in I don't miss all my boys drama in high school. I do miss all of you guys — a lot. But during these months in Yale I realized something that in high school I didn't have much time to process."

She stopped and looked at Kurt, whose curiosity was clear.

"Sorry I don't know why I am dumping all of this in you."

"Don't worry," he said. "I'm here to listen."

"Okay it's just that... I realized I missed all of you so much, Mercedes, Tina... Even Santana." Quinn rolled her eyes and Kurt chuckled a bit. "But the one person who I really missed was... Yeah it was Rachel."

Kurt was kind of surprised to hear that but when he opened his mouth to say something Quinn stopped him.

"Yes I know, we hated each other like a year ago. Or more like I hated her and she wasn't afraid of facing me. Or I was actually pretending to hate her because it was easier than being her friend..." Quinn bit her lip and realized she was turning red. "I'm tired of hiding what I feel so I decided to come here and tell Rachel and wait for a rejection. And if she doesn't reject me... Well, I haven't really thought of it" she finished.

Kurt was now really surprised. He had always suspected a bit about Quinn, just the way her dynamics in relationships with the boys were and how much she seemed to hate Rachel when she didn't even care about Finn in a romantic way that much.

"I'm happy you trust me enough to tell me this, but—"

"You don't need to tell me if this is a mistake," Quinn cut him off. "she has never said that she is into girls or anything, I know that. But I had never said anything either and well, look at me" she nervously laughs, "I'm here coming out to you as a lesbian and about to tell Rachel Berry that this whole time I've had a crush on her."

"No Quinn, I think that's great really, it's just that—"

Suddenly the door of the loft flew open and Rachel was there. She carried her hands to her mouth while Quinn turned to look to her.
In just some seconds Quinn found herself trapped between Rachel's arms while the excited girl who had just arrived shouted "Oh my god, Quinn! What are you doing here?". Quinn rested herself on the now familiar hug and a big smile appeared on her face.

They separated, as much as Quinn hated it, and when she took in Rachel's image she was speechless. She had changed a lot, wearing outfits that had nothing to do with what she used to wear in high school. She also had a bit of make up on and felt sparks fly when she looked her in the eye and the girl looked at her too.

"I—" Quinn coughed a bit and started the sentence again. "I decided to use my metro ticket, thought it was about time" she smiled.

"I'm so happy you have! Wait no, actually I'm mad. You should have told me! I would have planned the best New York afternoon you could ever have. I don't know if we will be able to still catch tickets for any good shows today. Are you staying for the night? Because Kurt and I could prepare a musical marathon — if you want to, of course. I also want to show you NYADA! It's the coolest college ever, I swear, even tho I guess Yale is not that bad" Rachel laughed and kept on rambling like she always did.

Quinn looked at her almost hypnotized. It's not that Quinn didn't like talking — she did. But she loved listening, specially to passionate people talking about stuff they like. And who is more passionate than Rachel Berry? One of the things she liked the most about her was how easily she could lose herself talking about musicals, New York, Barbra Streisand and everything she loved. She thought she could spend the rest of her days just listening to Rachel talk and...

"Stop it Quinn" she told herself. "Leave the daydreaming to after you have confessed what you came here to say."

Rachel was about to go pick a Broadway calendar she had to look what shows they could catch when Quinn stopped her.

"Actually I didn't came here just to visit, there is something I wanted to tell you—"

The girl stopped talking when she saw a tall man entering the apartment. Rachel smiled at him and went running towards the boy and gave him a peck on the cheek.

"Quinn, I want you to meet Brody, my boyfriend" she smiled, "Brody, this is the one and only Quinn Fabray."

The blond girl froze on the spot. Was this what Kurt have tried to warn her about? She felt so stupid. She should have assumed Rachel would have a boyfriend, I mean, have you seen her?

"Oh, Quinn as in high school Quinn? The mean cheerleader who tormented you for years?" Brody smiled.

"Shut up, don't listen to him. Kurt said that about you, by the way. I told you" Rachel looked at Brody, "that Quinn and I became good friends in our senior year. I still can't believe you're here!" she said turning back to Quinn.

Quinn put on a fake smile. She was hurting, not just because Rachel wasn't single but by what Brody have said. He was right and she knew it. She had tormented Rachel for years and she didn't know how Rachel forgave her until the point of calling them good friends. She wanted to laugh, how would Rachel ever want to be with her? All the jealousy and repressed feelings have mad her a hateful bitch and she had dumped all that hate in Rachel during sophomore and junior year.

"Did you want to say something before, Quinn?" Rachel asked.

She broke her own promise, smiled like the actress she was studying to be, and said:

"Yeah, I wanted to ask if there is any production of Chicago right now? I would love to go."

Rachel nodded enthusiastically and took Quinn's hand to drag her to the living room and start planning their hang out.
