In her head, she says it over and over again, like it can’t possibly be real, and then she looks over at Rachel who’s just smiling at her like she’s the prettiest girl in the world. Out loud, she hardly says anything, scared that a word could create a ripple in the glass between them, and the last thing either of them need is for something else to shatter. She doesn’t know this Rachel. She doesn’t even know this version of herself. But there’s an undeniable part of her that wants to get to know them both, wants to love them all over again. It’s at the same time wonderful and deeply sickening, and it’s like the entire world is spinning around her at an impossible speed, and everything is warped, and nothing is real, and she just needs it to stop for ten seconds. Give me a minute , she thinks, let me process. Let me grieve.
