Work Text:
I’ll Love You Like How the Ocean Loves the Sun
Amelia Watson was somewhat of a poet. She was romantic as she was cryptic. She speaks in riddles with no one ever figuring out the meaning behind the words. And so, Amelia decided to speak the language where everyone can know your meaning.
However, more often than not, this had serve her no more than any good conversations, often leading to misunderstanding and enemies as she tried to talk as informal and comedic as she can. It was a success. But there are cases where she speaks bluntly and cryptically, earning a few weird looks, and that bothered her a whole lot.
It was not because she was insecure, or maybe she was—an honest to down insecure with what people perceive of her that she ended up donning on a mask that helped as equally as it hurt her. Even as she had her friends who she held so close to her heart, she never dwell too long with the old ways she was used to and can only be seen as this salty gremlin that everyone loves. At least she’s proud of that.
Her eyes then opened, revealing the familiar mahogany ceiling of her office. Her eyes trailing traces towards the single ceiling light that is dimly lit, giving the office an ambiance of calm and professionalism. But professionalism was already one of the detective’a forte.
Suddenly, she heard her office phone rang, so she immediately fetched it from her table to her ear.
“Amelia Watson, resident detective, how may I help you?” Said Amelia, her voice calm and collected.
“Uhh yeah. I was looking for my Watson, have you seen her?” A familiar voice spoke through the phone.
Amelia couldn’t help but to roll her eyes, a smile appearing to her face. “Could I have any hints as to where was this Watson last seen?”
“Yeah, so uhh, she was walking down this path to Pleasant Park Street and goes inside a wooden mansion at the edge of the street covered with cool looking plants.”
This gave Amelia the whole idea and hummed, a smirk making its way on her face. “I see. I shall investigate this and talk to you for the updates.” She ended the call and marched through her door, rushing downstairs earning a questioning look from the maids around the vicinity.
She reached the entrance and pull one door open to go through the gates where an out of place blue figure was standing from. When she reached the gate, her smile grew and greeted the person behind the gate.
“Oya oya, what’s a shark girl doing all alone in these parts?” Grinned Amelia, a laugh bubbling on her throat as the shark girl gave her a toothy grin, their tail wagging to and fro.
“Hello A~me.” Greeted Gura. Amelia shook her head slightly before opening the gates to let the predator inside.
“How did you get my office number?” Amelia asked. Gura hummed. “Where else could I find it?” Amelia looked at her in confusion, racking her brain for any possible location.
“Found it on your wallet, you big goof.” Laughed Gura, handing her a brown leathered wallet.
“So that’s where my wallet went. Did I leave it on Kiara’s house?” Gura nodded at the question. “Yeah, you did. So, Kiara asked me to deliver it to you.”
“Thank you. I’m surprised that you remember the way to my house.” Amelia commented.
Gura puffs her chest and grinned. “You’re talking to a shark, Watton. I can smell you. And looks like you just got home.” She looked up to see Amelia’s reaction who offered her an exhausted smile who was reminded of how her day went. “You okay, sunshine?”
“Hmm, yeah. Just a rough day.” Amelia sighed as they walked, reaching the entrance door opening it.
Gura hopped inside and admire the surroundings as she listens to the detective’s little sighs and groans. She looked back to the blonde, not before she waved at the maid who waved back to her.
“You know, you can always talk to me about everything.” Gura said softly, her eyes locking to Amelia’s electric blue ones, a soft smile making its way on her cheek and Amelia couldn’t help it as her heart flutter.
“I know. But I rather relax for now, with you, sharkie.” A teasing grin formed on the detective’s lips as she utters the nickname, making the shark pout yet her tail betrayed her as it starts wagging gently, a clear sign that she loves it. “Wanna head upstairs? The maids are cleaning this floor so…”
“Yeah! Oh! I wanna see your office, Watson.” Gia exclaimed, her tail now wagging excitedly.
“But my office is boring.” Moaned Amelia. She wasn’t opposing on letting the shark see her office, she just really thinks it’s too boring.
“Nah. Nothing’s boring with you in here, sunshine.” Said Gura, her expression soft and full of adoration that Amelia felt her heart thump in response, as well as her cheeks starts to burn red.
“Smooth, sharkie…” Mumbled Amelia earning a giggle from the shark.
The two climbed up towards Amelia’s office. Gura was excited. She had been in the Watson household but never yet to see what Amelia’s office looked like. According to Amelia, it was better kept private as she was a very disorganized person and doesn't want anyone to see how bad it was. But Gura beg to differ. She knows how much of a perfectionist the detective was, and of course it comes with being organized so she doubt that was the case, yet she let it slide and let the blonde be.
“Just so you know, it’s really boring. Unlike my gaming room.” Said Amelia, holding the knob to the office door.
“Wait, you got a gaming room?” Gura asked dumbfounded.
“Hmm yeah. That’s where I usually just spend my leisure time playing games.” Shrugged Amelia. “We can go there if you want.” Gura shook her head at the suggestion and looked at the detective’s eyes with determination.
“Nah. Your office sounds more interesting than a gaming room.” Snickered Gura that earned a light chuckle from Amelia who turned the knob, opening the door.
What Gura saw was beyond her expectation. Sure she knew how organized the blonde was, but looking at the office was entirely different.
The place was the same color of the entirety of the house, the dark polished color of mahogany, clearly still have remnants of the polish; it was relaxing, and somewhat refreshing. There were books neatly organized within the bookshelf, an occasional stack or two was place beneath the shelf. There was a single wooden desk in the center with a swivel chair accompanying it.
“Your place is so neat.” Gura said in awe. Amelia chuckled while running a hand through her hair.
“Yeah, I guess. A little clatter here and there but yeah, neat.” Agreed Amelia. “Oh look, there’s your box of lemons.”
Gura looked at the box of lemons neatly placed on the wooden table. “Glad to see you still keep those. I thought by now you have thrown it or something.”
“Throw it?” Amelia screeched. “I would never, sharkie. I would always look at those lemons when I feel under the weather.” The blonde huffed, clearly insulted.
Gura lightly laughed, hiding her cheeks with her palm as her tail wags slowly. Gura walked over and plopped herself in the swivel chair, spinning it. When the chair stopped spinning, she came in face to face with Amelia looking at her with the softest and gentle look she had ever seen from the blonde detective, she also wore a smile that made her heart flutter.
“See something you like, Watson?” Teased Gura, a tinge of pink on her cheeks.
“I see you're still a dumb-looking shark.” Laughed Amelia, her cheeks also red from getting caught staring.
Here they go again. They have been walking on eggshells with what they are feeling with one another. Often reverting to silly banters and teasings, that usually escalates from what they initially planned to and continue to revert back to normalcy. But Amelia was feeling bold today. Maybe it was the wine from the early morning visit (more like meeting), or maybe it’s because it felt somewhat right.
“Has anyone ever told you how your eyes reflected the ocean?” Amelia blurted out, her mouth moving before her brain. Gura blinked and stiffen in her sit, looking at Amelia with wide eyes. Then a solemn smile made its way to the girl’s face, Amelia suddenly panicked reaching out to her but she was cut off.
“To be honest, yeah. A lot of times back when I was in Atlantis. Believe it or not, I was pretty popular back then.” Started Gura.
“They took interest on the dumb shark.” Gasped Amelia, reacting exaggeratedly.
“Oi. I’m telling the truth.” Grumbled Gura, pouting at the detective but eventually giving her a smile. “Yeah, well, as popular as I can be due to my status.” Gura stopped to look at the blonde, she took her silence as a signal to keep going.
“I haven’t told anyone that I’m… uhhh, well… royalty? By royalty I mean, I’m technically the heir to the throne, so there’s that.”
Amelia bit back the reaction she wanted to show in favor of listening to Gura who pretty much had never shared any detailed information about her past or about her in general, minus the weird and wholesome snippets.
“Being as someone with status, you’re bound to be known, meet people…” Gura exhales. “While the last part ain’t bad at all, it’s what they know or thought about you that bothers.”
“There are someone who’s genuine but, there’s also someone who isn’t, and I’ve met most of them back in the day.” Gura spins the chair to the side, making sure they stop abruptly before turning to the other way and doing the same thing. “Compliments are nice to get when it's genuine. But getting the same compliments every single day for the sake of wooing the “princess”, was real tiring.”
Gura looked at Amelia and stared into her eyes. She grins temporarily blinding Amelia who blinks.
“Whatcha think about my little backstory? Did it surprised you?” Gura grinned.
For once, Amelia doesn't have any feedback. She only stared at Gura like she’s the most interesting person in the world. Amelia noticed Gura was fidgeting, then blinked in realization that she was staring at the shark for too long. Amelia smiled rubbing the back of her head sheepishly.
“Sorry. Got distracted for a moment there.” Amelia hiccups while looking away. The apex predator blushed at the implication but shook it off.
“Amelia? Speechless? Who would have thought?” Smirked Gura, cheekily. Amelia let out a gremlin noise and talked.
“Hey, I can be speechless too! It just takes good effort to do so.” Grumbled Amelia.
“So, did I passed in flying colors?” Gura giggled.
Amelia shook her head and hiccuped. “You did.”
The two looked at each other before laughing. Amelia let herself land on the sofa as their laugh slowly dwindle. Amelia was panting from laughing and she looked back at Gura once again. She stopped laughing but her shoulders shook ever so slightly with erupting mini giggles. Amelia had to stop and just listen to the shark. Actually, she can stare at the shark too without getting bored.
“But I mean what I said Gura. Your eyes do reflect the ocean.” Amelia stated. The shark hummed with closed eyes, before giving Amelia sweet smile and a soft look that made Amelia’s heart leap… and Amelia is falling fast.
“Your smile brightens my day.” Amelia abruptly said, the shark blinking I’m surprise.
“When you sing, it’s like a siren lulling you to sleep. I always listen to it. I could even play it in the radio and I wouldn’t get bored of listening.” Chuckled Amelia. She leaned to her palm, arm resting on her thigh.
“Your laughs and giggles are a touch of sunlight. It just brings warmth. Even with just your presence, you seem to carry the sun.” Amelia stopped abruptly, but her face says that she still has something to say, and say she did.
“You’re just so warm and bright, and I don’t know what did I do to even be granted the chance to meet you all those years ago.” A beat.
Gura stopped breathing then and there. Well maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but it holds a truth. She was rendered speechless from what she had heard coming from the detective’s mouth. She couldn’t even count the number of times she felt her heart skipped a beat at every compliments she received. It was genuine, oh so sweet, coming from the charming blonde. But what took her breathe away the most was how the detective was looking at her. Soft, full of love, and adoration. Actually, even that cannot completely grasp what she was seeing and how it makes her feel things she couldn’t comprehend other than it felt like electricity seemed to course through her veins and leaving trails of warmth everywhere.
Gura bit her lip and choke back a sob. She put her hand on her mouth, grinning from ear to ear like a love sick fool as tears began to swell in her eyes.
The feeling was so intense. It was overwhelming but good. It was warm. It was electric. It made her heart ache for more.
She cried.
She let her tears fall freely while laughing, choking on wet sobs and yet she smiles.
Amelia panicked from the first sob, and worried she got when the second sob came followed by tears. She immediately stood up and walked towards Gura and cautiously held her shoulders. Gura shook her head, bring her arms to wipe the tears but it didn’t stop and she sobbed once again. Amelia held her wrist and Gura had to look.
“I-I’m sorry… I don’t know what,” A sniffle. “..came over me. I—” Amelia hugged the shark and hummed as she brushed the girl’s white tresses. Gura hugged back, gripping at her blouse as her body shook as she sobs, her tears soaking the detective’s blouse but Amelia didn’t mind.
Gura pulled away from Amelia. “I—sorry about your shirt.” She sniffled. Amelia chuckled and shook her head.
“Dumb shark. You don’t need to apologize.” Amelia said, completely understanding. She placed her forehead to the girl beneath her and closed her eyes. “I hope you heard me.”
Gura chuckled. “I did. I did.” She nuzzles towards the blonde, a giggle escaping her lips. “Who knew time-travelling detectives can be so poetic.”
Amelia chuckled and opened her eyes to look at Gura’s own. “Only for my sharkie..” Gura hummed and Amelia couldn’t help but to lean in.
The kiss was shy and tentative, lip locked and cautious, but they revel in it. Then it turned sensual and slow with Gura snaking her hands to the other’s hips, pulling, making Amelia sit on the predator’s lap not breaking the kiss. Amelia had to put her arms on the shark’s shoulders, her fingers entangled to Gura’s hair scratching a bit, earning a moan—more like a growl from the shark who pulled away to look at her.
“Hi there.” Gura mumbled, her breathe fanning the detective’s mouth. Amelia leaned in for a peck and mumbled in her lips a “hey” before continuing to assault the girl with a kiss. Gura accepted it.
They kissed for a while, hands twitching but never dared to go any further, completely satisfied with what they have for now before pulling away with chuckles and giggles bubbling in their throat.
“So that happened.” Gura giggled. Amelia chuckled and rest her head on the former’s chest as arms hugged her. “You know, if I knew you feel the same way I would’ve kissed you a long time ago.”
Amelia scoffed. “Well too bad to get to kiss me only today.” A playful smile creeps to her cheeks. She heard Gura chuckle and she felt it vibrate from where she was positioned.
“Well, I wouldn’t have it any other way though. You in my arms, snuggling me, yeah what a blessing.” Gura boasted to no one.
“You’re a blessing.” Amelia replied, humming. Gura hugged her a bit tighter, a breathy laugh escaping from her lips.
“Are we doing this again, Watson?” Gura asked.
“I’ll do it as long as I live.” Amelia kissed the apex predator’s neck, earning a shiver that made her smile. “I’ll shower you with love and devotion. All the compliments and sweet nothings just for you.”
“Gaaawd. Ameee, stooop.” Drawled Gura, hiding her now bright red face to the crook of Amelia’s shoulder. Amelia chuckled and squeezed the shark girl’s body.
“I’ll love you like how the ocean loves the sun.” Amelia murmured.
Gura giggled. “Shouldn't I be the one saying that, sunshine?”
Amelia hummed and let out a breath. “Then, let this sun kiss the ocean once more.”
And with that, the sun kissed the sea and drowned with love as the sea embraces the sun.
