Work Text:
Driving at night was one of Trevor's favorite parts of the job, if he had to pick any. Fewer people on the road, miles and miles of just him and whatever tape he had in hand at the moment. It was lonely, yeah, but what part of hunting wasn't? At least driving didn't usually include getting his hands dirty, or dealing with old, moth eaten books.
For once in his life, alone, sober, and alert, his thoughts didn't inevitably drift towards painful memories. For the first time in so many years, Trevor not only had pleasant things to think about, he also had plans to make, a future to imagine, even if it still felt a bit surreal and a little too hopeful.
For once he had something to look forward to.
Trevor couldn't stop thinking of her.
Drumming his fingers on the steering wheel mindlessly, eyes on the long road ahead, Trevor's mind was filled with Sypha.
This was the first time he'd been out on a hunt since meeting her. For the first time in his life, especially since he'd started hunting alone, he'd stuck around somewhere for more than a couple of days. There had just never been a reason to stay, a reason to stop running from his own shit.
And now Trevor wasn't just going wherever the road would take him, wherever there was a job to do. He wasn't aimlessly driving until the next town in need of a hunter.
Trevor was speeding a little but he just couldn't help it. He couldn't help how badly he wanted to get back to Sypha, to have her in his arms. It felt like ages since he'd last heard her voice, felt her touch. His heart pounded with excitement and anticipation at the mere thought of seeing her again. Maybe he should have called first, but Trevor would be damned if he spent a minute longer away from Sypha.
When had that happened? When had he ever cared so much about anyone?
When had Sypha's touch become the only thing he could think of?
Not that it bothered him. Terrifying as it may be for Trevor to have unknowingly surrendered his heart like this, it was also exhilarating.
She'd given him a key.
He didn't live there, wasn't sure he could actually live somewhere and be responsible and a decent… boyfriend? Was Sypha his girlfriend? It was all still so new.
Regardless of the fact she shared the place with a roommate, Sypha kept letting him stay there. Emma worked in a hospital and she was hardly ever at the apartment anyway, so Sypha had convinced her to let him crash there pretty easily.
Asking if he wanted breakfast had turned into waking up to his coffee already made. Staying the night would often lead into spending the day.
Trevor had caught her making room for him in the apartment lately. Getting new things just for him, too. Small things. Half of a drawer cleared out, his own toothbrush next to hers, stronger coffee that Sypha herself didn't like. A silly mug Trevor had seen in a thrift shop but had decided not to buy, which now had a matching cup he'd picked for her.
Trevor didn't live there… yet. Maybe he could, eventually. Maybe Sypha would ask, or maybe she'd just let him figure it out on his own and Emma probably wouldn't mind. That wasn't a very good plan, but Sypha was good at nudging him towards better choices.
Sypha was amazing.
And he had a key.
It was still dark when he arrived.
Aided by the knowledge that there would be no one else there but Sypha, Trevor got in without making any noise. He took off his boots by the door, then shed his coat and dropped it on the table, along with his wallet and keys. It wasn't hard for him to get into Sypha's bedroom without waking her. Well, without waking her just yet.
Scaring her was the absolute opposite of what he wanted.
Sypha was fast asleep. There was a bit of light coming through the window, enough so that he could see her curled up with her blanket just fine. She was so beautiful and serene, Trevor actually forgot to breathe for a second.
"Babe?" he called softly, taking his shirt off because he just couldn't wait.
She stirred a bit, pulling the blanket over her eyes and groaning, upset to be woken up before dawn. Then she pulled it off and sat up, blinking at him. "Trev?" asked a very sleepy Sypha, reaching for him and Trevor went, easy as anything, back into her arms where he belonged. "Trev, when--"
Trevor interrupted her with a kiss, unable to wait a second longer. Sypha pulled him fully into bed, smiling against his lips, carding her fingers through his hair. He had missed that, missed her. Just a few days, and Trevor had felt like a piece of him was missing.
"When did you get home?" asked Sypha, peppering his face with kisses.
Huh. Home.
That was it, wasn't it?
Being in Sypha's arms, hearing her laughter and kissing her silly… That was home to him, Trevor realized as he pulled away to get a good look at her, face flushed and breathing a little hard. It hit him like a tidal wave and he would happily drown in the realization now that it was clear to him.
Sypha was his home.
"Just now," he replied in a whisper, hiding his feelings in the crook of her neck, where he dragged a soft moan out of her. Then Trevor asked into her ear, just because he needed to make sure, "Is this okay?"
"Yeah," said Sypha, breathless. "More than okay."
