Work Text:
They had barely left the city before the car broke down. While they were considering their next move, Joe gave Nicky a nostalgic look.
Nicky: “What, Tereso?”
Joe: “That there are times when I miss when we rode horses.”
Nicky: “Because they never had engine troubles?”
Joe: “Also that, but it just seemed easier when we had to travel.”
Nicky: “Know what you mean, but I don’t miss being cold or wet.”
Joe: “Me either, but I miss us riding side by side under the open sky while feeling the wind on my face.”
Nicky: “Only you can make horse riding sound more romantic than it really was, but I understand what you mean, Yusuf. There are some things you can’t do in a car as you could do on a horseback.”
Joe: “Like holding your hand and leaning over to kiss you.”
Nicky: “I remember one time when we did that, and we ended up in the middle of the Jordan River.”
Joe: “Or that time we found ourselves surrounded by sheep on that pasture in France.”
They both laughed while Joe sat beside Nicky, who took his hand.
Nicky: “Do you know what I think?”
Joe: “Not unless you tell me.”
Nicky: “That maybe we should abandon the car and travel the last bit on horseback. Spend a couple of days under the sky and talk about old days before the next mission.”
Joe: “Who is now the romantic one?”
