Work Text:
The day has been hard. No, that was an underestimation. It has been hell. Not only do you lack sleep, thanks to insomnia, you were constantly turning around sweating because of the high temperatures in the night. Due to technical errors, you couldn’t finish a personal project. Your family just keeps scolding you for being yourself and, on top of that, once you started working, your boss is scolding you for speaking up, just like he had ordered you to the day before. You feel like the world is becoming too much for you. The constant fear throughout the day flaring up again as you want to leash out to everyone while, at the same time, want to curl up in your blanket and never come out again.
Sitting down at your kitchen table you rest your face in your hands. Picture of the day flooding your mind. Your heart thumping loudly in your ears. It is as if the world wants to swallow you. However, a small vibration on the table snaps you out of your thoughts. Your eyes glance at the source and find your phone, screen lighting up with a new message from your friend, Felix.
Felix is a beautiful and extremely kind human being. The young men, soon turning 21, is a popular idol and beloved by many, normal people and other idols. Almost the whole world wants to be his friend and yet you can call him your friend. Smiling weakly you take your phone and read his message.
“Cause I like you. There is no other reason, I like you. When I watch you smile, there is nothing more for me to ask for. Cause I just like you.”
You stared at the message with wide eyes. He has really sent that. Without realising it, tears are running down your cheeks and sobs force their way out of your throat. Not long after, another message arrives.
“I just want to ask you about your day. Listening to your stories has become my hobby. Feels like the shortest time of the day.”
Your sobs and cries echo loudly through your kitchen. They are so loud that you do not notice the door opening nor the hurried footsteps coming your way. Only once arms wrap themselves around your shaking shoulder are you aware of the other person in the room. There can only be one person who enters your flat like that and, according to the scent of the ocean, it really is Felix. The warmth radiating from his body warms you and his voice, deep and rich, fills your ears with gentle humming.
Eventually, your sobs calm down. Felix slowly loosens his grip and carefully turns you around. His brown eyes shining with worry find yours almost instantly. His voice is quiet when he asks: “You want to talk about it?” Your voice starts just as quiet as his but gradually gets louder the more you speak: “Today has been horrible. I try and try to do my work, take on special assignments alone that are way too big to be handled alone, just because I know my colleague won’t help me. I do his work. Not once have I done anything out of place. But the one time I actually complain because I don’t understand and want an explanation from him, I get a warning from my boss about being polite. Why, Felix? Why do I do all of this if my reward is a punch in the face? Why do I have such ungrateful colleagues that destroy the joy of this work? I don’t understand! Why?” Tears stream down your face again and your cries and sobs are louder than before. Felix brings you into a hug and nuzzles your face into his shoulder. He doesn’t say anything just gently pets the back of your head while caressing your back as you cry into his shoulder. Your tears are quickly soaking his white shirt, yet he pays no attention to it.
It takes a lot longer for you to calm down. However, Felix’s hug never weakens and he holds you through it. He even holds you when your breath evens out and you fall asleep. The crying on top of that horrible day leaves you completely exhausted. His grip tightens as he whispers into your ear:
“Everything will be fine. I will be here to hold you. I promise!”
