Work Header

The professor is gone.

Summary:

As if Dimitri's life wasn't hard enough, he has trouble believing Byleth is dead, but she is... After the axe to the heart from Edelgard, Byleth has died and passed on, Dimitri starts seeing her around the monastery and acts as if she was alive....

Notes:

(I headcanon that in order for Byleth to get the power Sothis has, she has to be able to survive critical wounds for three moons.)
(Also, Edelgard killed Byleth at the battle of Garreg Mach.)
(The story takes place on the day the Blue Lions invade Enbarr.)

Work Text:

(Garreg Mach Monastery)

"You killed her... You killed my daughter! I trusted you to protect her, now she's dead! Gone! She loved you, and to repay her, you let her get killed! What kind of ruler are you?!" Captain Jeralt's ghost scolded. Dimitri could feel his pain, he was being haunted by the ghost of Captain Jeralt, the father of his beloved professor Byleth. He could still see her smile, how his heart soared seeing her wonderful smile! All Dimitri could do now was avenge her, avenge his professor.

"Forgive me, Sir Jeralt. I fled, I fled like a coward when I should've protected your daughter... I should have protected her from Edelgard. An axe to her heart cut Byleth's life short. Don't worry Captain Jeralt, once I kill Edelgard, I shall offer her blood to your graves, I will make sure she suffers a much more gruesome death than you and Professor have." Dimitri says as he looks downwards at the graves, a new grave added beside Jeralt's.

*Here lies Byleth Esiner ???-1181*

"Dimitri, listen." Jeralt's ghost begins. "This Edelgard, why haven't you killed her yet?it's her fault we're dead. A student has murdered their own professor... You have to kill her, avenge us. Avenge Byleth."

"Yes, Sir Jeralt." Dimitri nods. "I will do what I must." He grabs his weapon and begins to walk away from the cemetery.

"Dimitri?" Flayn asked. "Who were you talking to?"

"Captain Jeralt." Dimitri replied coldly. "I was talking to Captain Jeralt." Flayn was getting worried, Dimitri had been seeing things and talking to ghosts for many, many moons now.

"B-But Captain Jeralt was killed by Kronya!" Flayn whimpers. At that point Dimitri turned his head to the left, and nodded.

"Of course, Captain Jeralt." Dimitri nods. "I'll kill her, I'll kill the empire that serves her. Edelgard will regret killing Byleth." Flayn was told not to come into contact with Dimitri.

"Yes, Professor." Dimitri nods. "I'll make sure they repent." Flayn watched hopelessly as she tries to convince Dimitri to let Byleth's and Jeralt's souls rest, but Dimitri insisted that Byleth was alive, that she was waiting for him to complete his mission of killing Edelgard so they could leave Fodlan behind and travel the world just the two of them.

"Come on, Flayn." Dimitri grunts. "Grab your brother, we are leaving for Enbarr at once, All of us!" Flayn nods as she rushed to grab Seteth, Dimitri pulls out a small letter Byleth had written him, he looked upwards and sighed.

"Do not worry, beloved. We will kill her, our lives will finally be complete." With that, the blue lions set off, the green haired Byleth hallucination following behind Dimitri, wishing to come along with them.

"The Death Knight will be there too, you won't let him kill you, will you Dima? It would be a shame to travel the world by myself.." The Byleth hallucination asked. Dimitri heard her voice, it was sweet sounding with a manipulative tone. Had the professor always been so manipulative, or was it just to him?

"Once we reach Enbarr, you won't hesitate to kill Hubert and Edelgard to avenge me, right? I was your professor after all, I'm counting on you to kill the vermin that are loyal to the Empire, You'll do that for me, won't you, Dimitri?" Dimitri heard Byleth ask.

"I'd kill whoever you'd want me to, beloved." Dimitri nods. "I'll kill Edelgard and offer her blood to your graves."

It was time for Dimitri to avenge his beloved professor.

Dimitri was going to kill Edelgard ending the war once and for all!

(The end.)

Sorry if this didn't meet up to anyone's expectations.

I just wondered how Dimitri would react to seeing Edelgard kill Byleth.

Kinda wrote this for myself...
