“The grass is greener,” Jean said, swiping at it with his blade.
“What do you mean?” asked Mikasa, frowning.
“The grass outside the walls,’ Jean said, “It’s greener. The grass inside is sort of grey.”
“I think it’s just the shadows from the walls, Jean,” Armin said. He was stripping down and cleaning his 3dm gear.
“No, I swear it is. Eren, what do you think?”
“About what?”
“The grass.”
“The grass ?”
“Yeah, it’s greener outside the walls,” Jean said.
Eren pursed his lips and inspected the lush turf. “You think?”
“It’s psychological,” a deep voice said.
“Com-commander Erwin, sir!” Armin squeaked.
The tall commander stood just at ease with the youngest of his troops as he did with the high society in Mitras. Levi, the tough, silent, clean-freak squad captain stood by his side—as always. “You associate the grass outside the walls with something wonderful,” Erwin went on; “freedom. There’s danger, too, of course, but ultimately there’s freedom.”
He tipped his blond head back and took in the impossibly blue sky that matched his eyes.
“There are a lot of things we desire, things we live for,” he glanced sideways at Levi, “But only a few we actually get.”
