only you can be my healer

Summary:

“You’ll have to let me go for a moment, you know,” Seungmin pats his head as he says that.

Hyunjin doesn’t move at all, barely awake at this point, so Seungmin has to do all the work himself. Untangling one sleepy Hwang Hyunjin from his body isn’t such an easy task, but he’s not complaining, because he doesn’t get to witness Hyunjin being so whiny and pliant every day – and, well, as much as he loves being babied instead, sometimes he just really wants to pamper and take care of his boyfriend like this too.

(Alt: Hyunjin is a bit grumpy because of jetlag, but Seungmin knows exactly how to distract him from the bad thoughts. This plan has never failed him before, and the plan is to shower Hyunjin with kisses.)

Notes:

Hi there!
I very much dislike writing canon compliant, and I bet you'll feel it throughout the fic that it's way too out of my comfort zone, but I hope it'll still be enjoyable because this story happened quite naturally?

Kudos and comments are always appreciated <3
Enjoy!

Work Text:

“Are you still mad at me?” Seungmin asks, lips forming a small pout as he speaks.

He looks at Hyunjin from across the room, keeping his hand on the doorknob in case Hyunjin asks to give him more space and alone time, but deep down hoping that spending the day alone with his thoughts helped Hyunjin feel better. Hyunjin is sat cross-legged on their shared king-sized hotel bed, mindlessly scrolling through his phone and barely paying attention to anything, but he does, however, look up for a second when Seungmin asks this question, and then turns back to the phone.

Seungmin sighs, leaning on the door as he notices that Hyunjin clearly struggles with something, but keeps his distance for now, respecting Hyunjin’s boundaries. Earlier in the day, right after breakfast, they had a small fight over something stupid: it really was stupid, because Seungmin doesn’t even remember what it was about. Or, rather, the fight was from Hyunjin’s side, and Seungmin just happened to be at the wrong place and the wrong time, so he inevitably got involved even though he didn’t want to. He very much dislikes fighting with Hyunjin and tries to avoid it at all cost, but sometimes it just happens, like it today, and it leads them to not talking – from a few minutes to long hours, depending on how big the fight is.

Frankly speaking, it can’t even be called a fight, but it doesn’t make the situation any less difficult because Hyunjin still refuses to talk to him, even if it has nothing to do with what happened earlier now. Seungmin isn’t one bit mad himself, because he perfectly understands that Hyunjin’s grumpiness was simply caused by the flight they had to take yesterday, so he doesn’t take it personally and instead wants to help. Hyunjin was feeling nauseous the whole day, so the flight didn’t go well for him, and it’s no surprise that he barely got any sleep at night, which resulted in him being way grumpier than usually in the morning. Seungmin is happy it was a schedule-free day, so, while they got the time to explore the city and rest, he figured it’d be best to cancel all the things they planned with Hyunjin beforehand and let him be alone in the room for a while.

Hyunjin really does look a lot better now, so Seungmin guesses he feels alright too, but it is clear that he’s still upset over something, which is why he stays so careful even though it’s actually his room too. They’ve been sharing a room in every place they went for the past months, sleeping in the same bed and cuddling every single night, but if Hyunjin asks for some privacy, Seungmin won’t hesitate to barge into Chan’s room for the night. The leader loves him too much to say no, and, besides, Chan seemed to be so caught up in his sudden inspiration that Seungmin doubts he’ll be getting any sleep tonight anyway.

Sighing again, Seungmin repeats his question, and this time Hyunjin sets the phone aside.

“A bit,” is all he says, but Seungmin is pretty satisfied with the answer.

To him, it’s not the words that are important in this specific situation, but the way Hyunjin’s eyes speak to him. He takes it as a sign for him to take off his coat and throw himself onto the bed right next to Hyunjin the very next second, but this little silly action doesn’t even make Hyunjin smile, and Seungmin really wants to hear his soft giggles again, so he comes up with a great plan.

The plan is to distract Hyunjin from the bad thoughts with kisses because a) Seungmin knows that Hyunjin isn’t mad at him, but rather at himself and his uncontrollable emotions and b) Hyunjin loves kisses. It’s not that Seungmin has the biggest experience in relationships, he hasn’t even dated anyone before falling for Hyunjin and finding out his feelings were mutual, but he doesn’t know anyone who’d love kisses more than Hyunjin does. Of course, he can only rely on the stories he hears and the observations he makes, but Seungmin is almost sure that Hyunjin’s main love language is physical touch – and, to be specific, it’s kissing.

On camera, Hyunjin really comes across as someone who loves cuddles more than anything, and it’s true to a certain extent, but simply because they can’t be caught kissing on a show recording or even at their endless dance practices. There’s always this danger of people finding out they’re a couple, which will inevitably lead to unwanted conversations and, more so, gossips and rumors here and there, so they try to keep it professional until they get back to the privacy of their dorm or hotel. Sometimes, just sometimes, Hyunjin does get a little impatient and steals a kiss or two on set, though on most days it’s just him clinging onto Seungmin the whole time and keeping his chin on Seungmin’s shoulder. But then, the very moment Hyunjin makes sure that no one is watching them anymore, he turns into a whiny baby, who is constantly asking for kisses – both quick pecks and languid, sweet kisses. And, honestly, who is Seungmin to refuse him anything when Hyunjin is this adorable?

Seungmin’s grown used to Hyunjin’s little antics already, even if it’s still a bit hard for him to the one initiating cuddles or kisses. He knows one thing: he really loves kissing Hyunjin too, and if it’s something that can make him feel better, then Seungmin is all up for it. Hyunjin reaches to take his phone again, but Seungmin is quick to catch his hand and place it on his waist instead as he crawls onto Hyunjin’s lap, leaning so close that their noses are just a few centimeters apart.

He finds it endearing that Hyunjin’s hands instinctively come to wrap around his waist to hold him in place because Seungmin is absolutely unable to sit still and is always bouncing like an excited puppy (or, at least, that’s what Hyunjin calls it, and Seungmin can’t really argue). Still, Hyunjin wears that same grim expression on his face, and Seungmin decides to waste no more time. With this thought, he plants a tiny kiss on the corner of Hyunjin’s lips, but instead of pulling away, he leans even closer so that the tips of their noses are actually touching right now and gently rubs Hyunjin’s nose with his.

Seungmin’s never been the one to do it first before, but he knows Hyunjin secretly enjoys this type of kissing, so he does it a few more times, giggling when Hyunjin’s grip on his waist becomes tighter.

“What’s gotten into you?” Hyunjin mutters quietly, and Seungmin would’ve missed it if their faces weren’t this close.

Seungmin doesn’t respond and chooses to steal another peck instead, this time kissing Hyunjin right on the lips, and he sighs in relief when he feels Hyunjin smile back at him. If Seungmin had to name just one kissing habit of Hyunjin, he would without a doubt say that Hyunjin is the type to smile into the kiss, even if they’re in the middle of a heated makeout session.

Of course, there’s more to their kisses. Hyunjin likes to hold his hand, intertwining their fingers, when they kiss, as well as he likes whispering sweet praises in between, but this is the first thing that comes to mind. It is a small yet constant detail that even Felix, who once had to watch them reunite after a week of not seeing each other, noticed and pointed out, so right now, with Hyunjin smiling again, Seungmin knows he’s on the right path.

“I don’t know,” Seungmin sing-songs, kissing Hyunjin’s cheek next and then coming back to his lips again. “Maybe you’ve just been a good boy and I thought you deserved to get some kisses.”

Usually, it would be him blushing and melting at the simplest tiniest praises, and Hyunjin is more than happy to shower him with those, but sometimes, like now, Seungmin just feels that it’s time to change the roles, to take care of Hyunjin not just through touches, but sweet words too. Hyunjin seems to be enjoying it, if the slight blush on his cheeks is any indication, but Seungmin doesn’t let him hide his beautiful face and captures his lips in another kiss, which lasts longer this time.

“Recharging your energy through kisses, I see,” Seungmin chuckles, to which Hyunjin just hums and kisses him again.

For the next few minutes they just exchange slow and lazy kisses, with Seungmin still sat on Hyunjin’s lap and Hyunjin gently supporting him with his arms, and Seungmin feels extremely comfortable like this. Before meeting Hyunjin, he would never expect himself to be someone who enjoys and values physical affection this much, someone who feels so at peace in another person’s embrace. Seungmin never liked hugs, he just didn’t see the point of all the unnecessary touches when his affection could be expressed with words, but with Hyunjin and, honestly, for Hyunjin only, everything changed.

He still can’t call himself the biggest fan of cuddles in general (but he isn’t as against it as Jeongin is, yet poor boy gets his daily wolf-like hugs from Chan regardless of how many times he complains about it), but there is certain magic to hugs with Hyunjin. Seungmin feels like home in his embrace, it’s warmer and sweeter than any hot chocolate, safer and calmer than any haven, and Hyunjin as a person is softer and cozier than any blanket. This feeling of safety washes over Seungmin every time they share quiet moments like this, and if kissing him every now and then brings Hyunjin the same kind of feeling, then Seungmin is never planning to stop giving him just that.

At some point Hyunjin licks into his mouth, deepening the kiss, and Seungmin feels as though his soul has just left his body because of how much love and affection Hyunjin gives him through something as simple as a kiss. Hyunjin then smiles again, eyes still closed, as he starts pressing soft kisses all over Seungmin’s face, and Seungmin can’t hold back his giggles when Hyunjin struggles to find his lips again, instead blindly landing gentle kisses on his nose and chin.

With a fond laugh, Seungmin gently cups Hyunjin’s face in his hands and guides him for another kiss, sweet and unrushed. Then, having recharged his emotional energy, Hyunjin yawns and complains about being sleepy, which has Seungmin chuckling at how adorable he is again. It takes some work to get Hyunjin out of bed, especially when he starts whining and making grabby hands at him, asking for more hugs and kisses, but Seungmin knows Hyunjin like the back of his hand now, so he remains stubborn until Hyunjin gives in.

“It’s just your jetlag,” Seungmin assures, helping him walk to their shared bathroom because Hyunjin just clings onto him like a desperate koala. “Things will get better once you adjust to the new time zone.”

“I hope so,” Hyunjin groans as he leans onto the cold wall. “This feels so good.”

“Please tell me you went outside at least for a few minutes,” Seungmin asks with a frown.

Hyunjin, still leaning onto the wall, turns his head a bit and looks up at Seungmin with a guilty smile on his lips. Sighing, Seungmin picks up his toothbrush and then passes it to Hyunjin, who instantly confesses the undying love for his boyfriend, making him laugh again – Seungmin quite enjoys how Hyunjin’s been less grumpy this evening compared to yesterday. He watches Hyunjin brush his teeth lazily, then hands him their shared cleansing foam – even though he didn’t put on any makeup today, it’s still important to wash your face properly and Seungmin isn’t going to let Hyunjin forget about it.

“Here, let me,” he says when Hyunjin struggles to grab the towel that nearly falls onto the floor because of his slight clumsiness.

“Mhm,” Hyunjin hums when Seungmin gently touches his face with the soft towel.

“Is it okay if I do this too?” Seungmin asks, pointing at the face cream standing on the sink. “Or do you want to do it yourself?”

“I don’t mind,” it comes out a bit muffled because Hyunjin uses this little break as an opportunity to bury his face in Seungmin’s chest, hugging him tight.

Once Seungmin makes sure that Hyunjin won’t use him as a pillow in the next few minutes, he quickly applies the cream to his skin, gently massaging Hyunjin’s face as he moves his fingers. Hyunjin starts purring like a cat at this action, and Seungmin’s heart swells with all the love he has for his boyfriend.

It’s Seungmin who wants more kisses now, and he doesn’t hesitate to get the first one.

“There, all done now,” he says and kisses the tip of Hyunjin’s nose. “You really should get some fresh air tomorrow, okay? And for now, let’s get you to bed.”

“And you?”

“I’ll join you in a moment, I still need to shower and brush my teeth too, you know,” Seungmin replies with a smile, but Hyunjin isn’t having it.

“Can’t you stay with me until I fall asleep?” he asks, and Seungmin can swear his eyes are sparkling when he looks up. “Just for a short while.”

Seungmin guesses that when Minho said he was totally whipped for Hyunjin, he meant exactly that, because getting into bed without showering first would be the first crime in Seungmin’s blacklist of things, but he’s ready to bend (or, rather, completely ignore) this rule if Hyunjin asks him to. Simple as that, you just have to be Hwang Hyunjin, and then Seungmin will do anything to ensure that you’re all happy and satisfied. He would do a lot of things for others, too, but Hyunjin has his whole heart, and, honestly, Seungmin would fight the world just to protect his pretty smile that makes his eyes look like little crescents.

“Want me to be the big spoon tonight?”

Hyunjin’s face lights up at the question because he understands that he won again, but he shakes his head with a pout, saying he wants to hold Seungmin instead. It’s a familiar position for both of them, even a ritual, of sorts, and Seungmin finds himself being really excited about it, but first makes sure to shower Hyunjin with a dozen more kisses just to remind him how much he is loved and cherished.

“Hey, pup,” Hyunjin whispers somewhere into his hair once they both lay down and Hyunjin hugs him from behind.

Seungmin hums in response to show that he’s listening, too lazy to say anything: after all, he’s had quite a draining day too, and the peaceful atmosphere of their room doesn’t make it any easier to fight back the sleepiness washing over him in warm waves.

“I’m sorry I was acting like an ass earlier,” Hyunjin mumbles, slightly tightening his hold on Seungmin’s waist. “I don’t know what’s gotten into me, I think you’re right and it must be the jetlag, but that doesn’t excuse lashing out at you.”

“It’s alright,” Seungmin mutters back, and he truly means it. “We can’t always have good days and be our best selves. And besides, you didn’t say anything hurtful, and you own up to your mistakes, so… Just go to sleep, baby.”

“Nah, you’re the baby here,” Hyunjin complains, the pout present even in his voice, and Seungmin finds it so endearing he can’t resist the urge to turn around and give him one last kiss for the night.

“Whatever floats your boat,” he giggles sleepily, already feeling that he’s not going to brush his teeth tonight. “I like it either way.”

“Me too,” Hyunjin yawns. “And I love you lots too.”

“Already knew that, tell me something new,” Seungmin teases with his eyes closed.

“I caught Minho and Jisung making out in the airport toilet yesterday.”

Seungmin snorts, barely reacting to the news that will completely shock him in the morning – that is, if he remembers it and doesn’t think it’s some weird horror dream of his.

“And then Minho meowed… like a cat.”

“Spare me the details,” Seungmin begs sleepily and kicks Hyunjin with his foot when he hears him laugh. “Better keep telling me about how much you love me.”

“You’re not saying it back anyway,” it’s now Hyunjin’s turn to tease him.

“But I do love you,” Seungmin whines in his defense, swallowing the bait again, just like he does every single time.

“Just wanted to make sure,” Hyunjin says, satisfied now. “Go to sleep.”

“But-”

He wants to complain about how Hyunjin tricked him into getting to bed instead of going through his night routine, wants to pout just like Hyunjin pouted at him less than half an hour ago, but all he hears is the sound of quiet snoring from Hyunjin’s side. Seungmin’s always admired his ability to fall asleep just like this on nights when he’s tired, because no matter how tired he is, he can’t seem to ever fall asleep until he counts a billion sheep. Tonight, however, he feels his whole body relaxing because of how right it feels to be in Hyunjin’s warm embrace, and this feeling quickly lulls him to sleep too.

There must be something healing about those kisses, and now Seungmin is determined to check this theory – meaning Hyunjin is going to get an unexpected kissing attack from him tomorrow. Seungmin doubts Hyunjin will be against that, however, because kisses make everything better and it is something that doesn’t need any proof anymore. Seungmin doesn’t have any past experience on kissing, yes, but there is one thing he knows without having to test it: kisses with Hyunjin are the sweetest.
