Chapter Text
“Calliope Mori!” The boy shouts in an attempt to hide how flustered he was, “I like you!! Please go out with me!”
“I’m sorry, I don’t know you at all.” Calli sighs softly, “But thank you for your confession, you’re very brave for it.”
“Ah, okay…” The boy looked down at his feet, “I’m sorry for wasting your time then. I’ll go now.”
“Wa-!” Just like that, the boy ran the other way.
Once again, Calli sighed, this time a louder one. Her hand which rested in her pockets now reached up to rub the back of her neck.
It was valentine’s day and Calli hated it. It was always people that she didn’t know that would take this day to confess their so-called feelings. Calli was a firm believer that you can’t love someone you haven’t met up close. The least could be having struck up a conversation with her before the confession. These people only loved how good she was at soccer, not who she was. Calli loved soccer and obviously she’d want someone who understands her love for it but she doesn’t want that to be the only thing.
Again, Calli sighs as she starts to walk away from the location she was brought to. She placed her earphones into her ears and plugged it into her phone. She headed to her locker, considering she didn’t have any more classes for the rest of the day, she decided she’ll leave for the day.
Calli opened her locker and suddenly an envelope fell out. Calli picked it up. The envelope was definitely homemade because she had never seen one like this sold at stores. It was a light pink that was almost white with pretty and faint floral designs on the front. She turned it around to open it and noticed the cute handwriting. She opened the envelope and pulled out the letter.
“To Calliope Mori. Meet at the school soccer fields at 2. I’ll be waiting :)”
Calli quickly pulled out her phone to check the time. It was already 1:58 and she had only now read the letter. The panic filled her heart in a matter of seconds. She slammed her locker shut and started sprinting to the fields.
This was most likely to be another confession by a stranger that Calli would turn down but it didn't mean Calli would leave this boy hanging and waiting for her. Calli had respect for those who could confess their love even if she didn't believe it was love that they felt for her.
Calli arrived at the fields just a minute late but it seemed the fields were empty. There was only one person on the fields and it was the person that was always on the fields at this time. Kiara Takanashi.
After Calli caught her breath, she approached the girl who was playing by herself. Calli knew that this girl always played here by herself because she'd often come and watch the girl. She would be lost in her own world. She played much better without the pressure and Calli enjoyed watching the girl smile at her own cool stunts. She's never been caught by the girl before so she has to pretend she's surprised that the girl is playing right now.
"Hey Kusotori!" The girl immediately freezes and turns to look for who called her.
A smirk played on her face seeing Calliope. She lifted the bottom of her shirt to wipe the sweat off her face as she waited for the pink haired girl to fully reach her on the field.
"Sup Cantaloupe," The girl's grin only got wider when her eyes met Calli's eyes, "I'm glad you're here. Up for a challenge?"
"Uh nah, I was actually gonna head home now." Calli tucked her hands into her pockets and slightly tilted her head.
“Eh? Already?” Kiara pouts for a second before shaking her head, “Why did you come all this way then? Just to turn me down before you hear me out?”
“No, I was called here in a letter bu-” Calli freezes before looking up to make eye contact with the other girl, “What do you mean turn you down before I hear you out?”
Kiara tilts her head as if to show that she was just confused at the pink haired girl, “What? You read my letter and came here, no?”
“Eh..?”
“Eh?”
“You wrote the letter?!” Calli looks at the girl in disbelief when she nods slowly, “Why didn’t you say that beforehand?! I thought it was some boy wanting to confess to me or something.”
Kiara laughs at Calli’s sudden confession, making Calli’s cheeks burn. Calli only now realised how cocky she sounded expecting a love confession from yet another boy. She could only sigh as the other girl laughed at her, a small smile playing on her face too. The orange haired laugh was too contagious for her.
“You’re real funny, Calli.” Kiara grabbed her stomach as she stopped laughing and smiled brightly at Calli.
For a second there, Calli felt her heart skip a beat. This was the first time she heard Kiara call her name out. She was often referred to as pet names that Kiara used to taunt the girl. Hearing her name roll out of the other girl’s mouth was actually pretty nice. That wasn’t the only issue here. The girl drenched in her own sweat was still shining under the sun. But her smile seemed to be even brighter than the sun. Calli turned away, to shrug away such thoughts but it still lingered. She wondered quietly how many confessions such a pretty and talented girl like Kiara would get.
“Well anyway!” Kiara snapped her out of her thoughts, “Are you up for the challenge now?”
“Sure. If that’s why you called me over,” Calli gave the girl a small smirk.
“Alright, if you can get the goal from…” Kiara grabs the soccer ball and runs right in the middle of the field, “Here! I’ll let you claim that you kicked my ass easily.”
“You either think I’m an easily tricked fool or that I’m really good.” Calli shakes her head as she walks closer to the girl, “Even some professional players struggle with such a big distance. These fields are bigger than normal ones as well.”
Kiara smirks before grabbing the ball and moving it about a meter or two away from the goal, “Then, if I miss the goal from here, you have to go out with me!”
Calli froze and her smile started to leave her face. She scoffed before crossing her arms, “There’s no way you could mi-”
Before Calli could finish her sentence, Kiara lifted her leg all the way back to power up her kick. Kiara was known for her powerful yet accurate kicks. With such a power up, Kiara was sure to get her shot. But that wasn’t the case. Kiara's leg came to a sudden stop as it hit the ball and it caused the ball to only go forward by a couple of centimetres. Kiara turned around with a big grin and red cheeks, still looking proud.
“I missed it!”
